So fantastic that Matchbox Cineclub is being recognised for their great work. I’ve done one of their brilliant captioning workshops and used their excellent captioning service. A rightly deserved award 👌

It's been a big week here at A Kind of Seeing. As well as the FOCAL awards, yesterday was the launch of another community-focused project I've been working on for about a year with Coalfields Regeneration Trust - Scotland that I feel (just like Our Maryhill) incredibly proud of being a part of.

CRT Films of Action is a community filmmaking project based on the belief that "the coalfield communities have a plethora of positive and inspiring stories to tell that go way beyond their coalmining heritage". Filmmaker Anne Milne and I worked with brilliant development worker Caron Hughes and the CRT team to facilitate and platform the voices of around 50 people living and giving through lockdown in coalfield communities to be shared through 13 films you can watch at the link below (captions available via YouTube links) 👇

Inspired by the befriending calls being made throughout lockdown, I worked on four 'telephone story' films. It's been an honour to sit at my desk at home here and record telephone conversations/blethers with people who are shielding but have a positivity, strength and dignity that we should all be inspired by.

Listen out for: ERIC - the founder of Dunfermline Camera Club; NANCY - a resident of Addiewell in West Lothian, RAB - a community leader in High Valleyfield in Fife, and the wonderful CHIT CHAT GROUP facilitated by West Lothian Financial Inclusion Network SCIO in Stoneyburn.

Please share to ensure these voices are heard far and wide:
https://crtconnect.org.uk/moodle30/course/view.php?id=103.

The idea for this pilot filmmaking project, was the belief that the coalfield communities have a plethora of positive and inspiring stories to tell that go way beyond their coalmining heritage.

It's FOCAL International Awards week! This Thursday at 7pm the online Awards Ceremony (hosted by Patrick Kielty, no less) will be live streamed on FOCAL's Vimeo channel: https://vimeo.com/focalinternational.

The OUR MARYHILL project team and hopefully some of our community curators will be watching to see how we get on in the 'Best Use of Footage on Innovative Platforms' category. It's a brilliant nominee shortlist to be part of: the incredible John Akomfrah, and the BBC Rewind team in Belfast.

Good luck to everyone! And big thanks to all our partners:
Glasgow Film Festival, St Charles Primary School in Maryhill, John Paul Academy, Queens Cross Housing Association, Community Connectors, Glasgow Council for the Voluntary Sector - GCVS, National Library of Scotland

So I'm going to be having an online blether with Jenny Sturgeon about her brilliant project THE LIVING MOUNTAIN this Saturday at 3pm as part of Way WORD Festival. I've been working on the visuals for the live touring performance of Jenny's album inspired by Nan Shepherd's book about the Cairngorm Mountains. There'll be a few previews of tracks with films featuring 1940s archive footage of intrepid hikers in tweed on the plateau. Always a treat to see. Book on to join us 👇

And pre-order Jenny's album: http://smarturl.it/thelivingmountain

Jenny and Shona talk about the origins and experience of working on their latest project, which explores Nan Shepherd’s writing, the Cairngorm mountain range, what it means to connect with a wild landscape and to find a sense of place.
