WE’RE DELIGHTED TO BE ABLE TO OFFER Eco-friendly funeral flowers.
The designs are created using locally grown flowers, are foam & plastic free and compostable. Yes, they cost a little more (they take way longer to make) but they cost the environment less and that’s a win for everyone I think.
We’re now members of - a nationwide directory of florists who create compostable tributes.
WEDDINGS ARE IN FULL FLOW and the flowers are getting more British by the week…some bouquets are now 100% Yorkshire grown!
We’re using as many local blooms and foliage as possible for a number of reasons..
•The flowers are fresher
•The flowers are grown sustainably
•The flowers are free from air miles
•The flowers are chemical free
•The flowers are unusual varieties

I TICKED ANOTHER OFF MY BUCKET LIST last week..a visit to David Austin Roses..the timing was perfect, the roses were sublime, not to mention the perfume in the air..just beautiful. If you love roses as much as I do it’s an absolute must.

WHAT IS THIS I SEE? An extremely rare sunny day in Yorkshire in 2024!! You’re really rolling the dice this year to get one of these..however..I don’t really think deep down the weather affects a wedding..I’ve yet to see pictures of couples miserably looking longingly skyward..
As long as you’re marrying the one you love, you’re with your friends and family and the flowers are amazing that all that matters!!

SOME DAYS I STRUGGLE TO DECIDE, but when I really think about changing my mind, it always come back to foxgloves..far and away above everything else available in the universe my favourite flower.
I’ve thought about why..it could be memories of Beatrix Potter drawings, it could be the way bumblebees disappear inside and leave laden with pollen or it could just be that they’re so sublime.
THE GALLERY AT IT’S OPULENT FINEST at ready to welcome French guests.
The brief was ‘English Garden’, achieved by creating long meadows of scented garden roses, wild roses, ornamental grasses, geranium, foxglove, peonies & astrantia & herbs.
All grown locally and fresh as a daisy (why do we say that?!)
IT’S BRITISH FLOWERS WEEK 2024!
To celebrate, as many of our flowers as possible in the shop this week are grown in Yorkshire at .flower.field.
Our summer bouquets & DIY buckets will look very different to those in spring - bursting with pinks, lilacs and apricot and as usual smelling incredible 💗
IT WOULDN’T BE MAY WITHOUT hedgerows of billowing cloud like cow parsley. We’re nearly into June and I’d hoped to get a shot of it in the early summer sun but I’m running out of May days and the cow parsley is fading…I quite like it under stormy skies actually.
Roll on flaming June!!
THE SEEDS ARE GERMINATING as we speak. I’m going to be living and breathing zinnia until I cut the first stem of these very special flowers.
I’ve followed Erin at for years so when the opportunity arose to get some packets of seed from Floret in the USA via it was a dream come true. That was the hard bit, hopefully the growing will be easy..watch this very excited space!
FALLEN OFF THE DETOX WAGON and currently out enjoying a full English!! Reckon it’s ok though having conceived and created 3 weddings this week. The final design being the showstopper arch at Hutton Wandesley Stables.
So lovely to work alongside the gorgeous Lindsay from LW Events (she’s pretty good at planning!) and massive thanks to Sash who’s venue is astonishing (and she happens to have just been on Gardeners World!). Great to see briefly as well..can’t wait to see the day unfold in images
WE’RE ABSOLUTELY IN THE SWING of wedding season but I’ve managed to squeeze in every episode of the Chelsea Flower Show coverage which is an absolute must and it’s been the usual inspirational feast.
I really must go next year, despite the crowds I think it’s worth it for the atmosphere and seeing the gardens, flowers and exhibits close up..this year I’m happy to go to Tatton Flower Show which will be a first so I can’t wait.
Happy bank holiday weekend. We’re taking an extra day off on Tuesday so the shop will be open again on Wednesday 29th.
MY THOUGHTS WANDER while I’m working and today, despite the weather, they’re wandering to swimming at at the crack of dawn on a warm summer’s morning with only the sound of nature for company.
Some would argue I need to get some work colleagues and friends🤣.
UTTERLY BONKERS FRILLINESS in the form of this iris in .flower.field this weekend. I love seeing something unexpectedly in flower..it’s an ‘ooooooh’ moment!!
The iris I’ve planted in the field are purely a self indulgence at the moment so I can drool over them. As the plants grow and produce more stems, I hope to incorporate some in my wedding designs to add a very special ‘je ne sais quois’.

IT’S EASY YO GET STUCK IN YOUR WAYS so I’m more than happy to set off down the quirky path sometimes…and even use flowers I’d normally run a mile from!!
Very simple but ever so effective..just carnations threaded with wire or nylon thread, easy to make and hang and will last ages! Give it a go.

THE VIEW THROUGH THE GATE INTO .flower.field this morning.
This cirsium is incredible, it flowers from April right the way through to the first frosts in October or November and is a massive bee magnet, sometimes up to 3 bumblebees squeeze onto a flower..they must be tasty!

IF YOU ORDER OUR BRITISH BLOOMS bouquet, this is how it will feel..this week. The varieties, colours and textures are ever changing as the seasons progress.
The flowers and foliage are about as fresh as it gets, cut the same morning the bouquets are created, giving them the longest possible vase life.
All the flowers are grown locally at .flower.field and substituted if absolutely necessary with other British grown flowers.
You can order online, call the shop or pop in. We deliver locally (8 miles around Boston Spa) or you can collect from the shop.

ONE THING I’VE LEARNT is to take time out. It’s like a gold dust, a sticking plaster, a descale, an oil change and service. We fight and profess we haven’t got time, but you must make time. I go to my happy place, my favourite beach (not for it’s beauty (although it is) but for my memories there). Soul soothed and back home until the next time.
