Another incredible evening at the Pinsent Masons London office last week hosting a Corporate Olympic Wine Tasting event for their clients.

This time our tasting journey featured some interesting wines from the UK, Germany, Australia, France, China, and the USA. Each bottle was tasted blind to challenge our guests & I think it’s safe to say that the winners must have been doing their homework🍷& very much earned their places on the ‘podium’ to take home the bronze, silver & gold medals! 🏅

We completed the evening with a fun team quiz which brought out everyone's competitive side! Congratulations to the winning team who took home beautiful boxed bottle’s of Nyetimber, the official sparkling wine sponsor of the Paris Games! 🍾To the losing team, we hope you enjoy your new wooden spoons! 🥄 🤭

Anyone recognise this legend? 🍷

If I had been growing in the UK in the 80’s then I’m sure this guy would have been my Idol.

Since moving to the UK I had heard all about the legendary connoisseur of wine, OZ Clarke and what a pleasure to finally meet him at a fantastic New Zealand Wine event in London Last week.

He was a true professional and is his passion for wine was contagious, it reminded me just why we started Club Vino—to share the joy, stories, and richness that every bottle holds.clarke

🍾 2023 … what an absolute year for Club Vino. Ending the year with a very well deserved bottle of champagne.

I can honestly say it’s been the best yet, full of challenges, the usual ups and downs but most of all it’s a been a massive success and I’m so excited for the year ahead. 🎉

Highlights of 2023

🥂We opened an office in London

🍾 Popped over 4000 bottles of wine and champagne

🥂 Hosted 50+ events around the UK

🍾 Entertained in some of Londons most iconic buildings, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Leadenhall and 22 Bishopsgate 🏙️

🍷 Created and sourced the wine list for a dinner party with the Prime Minister.

🤕 Maybe caused a few headaches along the way, but I’m sure they were worth every sip 😋

🍷 The highest altitude wine tasting event in London 🏙️

Last week we had the pleasure of hosting an incredible wine tasting event for our client Palo Alto Networks who alongside Amazon Web Services (AWS) & HashiCorp delivered an insightful Technology Roundtable at their new office HQ.

We have hosted events at 22 Bishopsgate previously however this was our first time on the 55th floor - and it didn’t disappoint! We are told that it’s the largest office building ever built in Britain and at 278 metres high it is the highest office space in Europe! It got us thinking… Could we have hosted the highest altitude wine tasting event in London last Thursday?! 🍷

After the presentations finished guests enjoyed wonderful evening of networking alongside some outstanding wines paired with delicious cheese courtesy of La Fromagerie.

I'm often asked, How do you select the best wine on those supermarket shelves? Do you go for the fancy label, the intriguing story, or perhaps the price tag that promises quality? In our quest to find the ideal wine, it's easy to get captivated by a label's allure. But here's the thing: sometimes, all that glitters isn't gold.

For many winemakers, the challenge lies in enticing first-time buyers. Price and packaging become immediate hooks. Modern wine labels have evolved; they're now filled with humour, contemporary appeal, and sheer elegance. However, in this visual spectacle, it's crucial to pause and consider: was it the wine's description or the label's charm that truly drew you in?

Here are some tips from Club Vino:

🔍 Read the Back: Always delve into the details on the back of the label. The back label often reveals a wine's story: the winery's history, winemaking techniques, and flavour notes. What a day 🍷 🏎️

We were invited by the Ferrari team at Stratstone who collaborated with Manchester artist Dean Dougla to showcase his latest collection of thought-provoking inspirational art.

A room filled with Ferraris, fine wines, gourmet canapés (cooked onsite by the outstanding Private Chef Alex Beard), and art that sparks the imagination – it was truly a dreamy setting. 🌟

✨ An amazing time was had at the beautiful Beehive Lofts Co-Working Space in Manchester last week!

🇮🇹 🍷 🏎️ Fine wine, gourmet Italian cuisine, and a showroom full of Ferraris. What more could I dream of for a Club Vino wine tasting event?

An unforgettable start to the Easter weekend as we hosted an intimate luxurious wine Tasting Dinner for Stratstone Ferrari Manchester and some of their customers.

Guests were treated to an outstanding selection of fine Italian wines perfectly paired with a gourmet 3 course dinner created by Private Chef Alex Beard and his team.

An amazing evening and I even managed to pick out my next car. Though test driving it will have to wait for another day 🥂 😎

My Dirty French Secret 🇫🇷 🍷

As a proud Italian, everyone assumes that I will always fly the flag for Italian wines. But the truth is my heart lies in Bordeaux. ❤️

And I love nothing more than to tell the story of this fantastic region.

Bordeaux Wine: The Left Bank vs. The Right Bank (apologies if you have heard this Story at one of my events) 😃

🍷 My Bordeaux wine - the gift of the gods to us mere mortals. With a rich history dating back to the 8th century, Bordeaux has been producing some of the finest wines in the world for centuries. And, just like any great love story, there are two sides to the story - the Left Bank and the Right Bank.

On one side, you've got the left bank, home to the mighty Medoc and its big, bold Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines. On the other side, you've got the right bank, home to the softer, fruitier Merlot-based wines of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol.

So imagine that if the left bank were a person, it would be the strong, silent type - all business and no nonsense. The right bank, on the other hand, would be the life of the party - always ready for a good time. 🎉

The left bank is like the older, more serious brother who always does his homework and never gets in trouble. The right bank is the younger, wilder sibling who's always sneaking out to go to parties and drink wine. 🤓

If you're looking for a wine to impress your boss or your in-laws, you'll want to stick with the left bank. But if you're looking for a wine to enjoy with friends on a lazy Sunday afternoon, the right bank is the way to go.

So, there you have it - the left bank and the right bank of Bordeaux, like two sides of the same 50 pence coin. Both are fantastic in their own way, and both have something to offer all wine lovers of all tastes and budgets. 💵

A conversation I have WEEKLY about 🍷!!

So here's why .....

As a Sommelier, obviously wine is my passion and back in Italy I had a pretty impressive collection of wines from all over the world, Including some very special bottles from Bordeaux. Wines from producers I had visited or been gifted by friends in the industry.
All in all there were probably around 150 bottles. Many of them with sentimental value more than monetary.

Every now and then I would open a bottle on a special occasion but that was a rare occasion.

🤦🏻‍♂️ MY BIGGEST REGRET

When I moved to the UK I transferred the collection. to the basement of my parents house which seemed like a pretty safe place.

Then one day I received a frantic call from my mother upon their return from a week away.

The whole collection, every single last bottle had been stolen the cases and even the racking gone.😫

How I wish I had opened those bottles!

So my advice.

Unless you have 'invested' in a bottle in the hope to one day make a profit one day.

Please don't wait for the "perfect" moment to drink it.

Create a perfect moment by opening it now?

Gather your friends and family, pair it with a special meal, and make some unforgettable memories.

Let's be honest, life is short, and there's nothing like a glass of top-notch wine to bring people together and make every day special. So, let's ditch the wait and celebrate the moment! 🎉🍾🍷 🥂

I absolutely love Californian wines, Let me tell you why.

In 1976, British wine merchant Steven Spurrier, a fine wine merchant in Paris, organized a wine tasting competition between California and French wines, obviously with the expectation that the French would win hands down. After all they have been making wine for centuries longer than the Californians.

The bottles were covered and the experts tasted 10 white wines and 10 red wines in two blind tastings.

Guess what? There was one clear winner 🇺🇸 and this tasting completely changed the perception of new world wines and put the Napa Valley on the Map.

Hi I’m Marco , founder of Club Vino.

7 years ago I was travelling around the the North of Italy working as a wine merchant. My days would be spent visiting wineries, learning about the wines, the story and the history then passing this information on to restauranteurs and wine bar owners who would then sell these wines with pride and passion.

I had clients on the top the mountains and needed to get a ski lift to visit them, I had clients in the middle of vibrant cities and hidden away in the back streets of beautiful historical villages.

Every day was different, high on caffeine as every visit involved a shared espresso and some days just too many late afternoon aperitivos.

Looking back life was pretty idyllic compared to my new life in England, But my passion was always sharing my love and knowledge of wine with others and this is what I do on a bigger scale every week around the UK ( A country which I have fallen in love with)

The people I meet at every event make me truly grateful that I made the change and set up Club Vino, I really am living my dream life.

Even if the weather and the scenery is not quite the same.

But ... a good glass of vino always helps.
