Hello, i’m Jungle Jo. I thought i’d share a little about what drives me to teach using my animals and what led me here. I’ve never been scared of any animal growing up and was passionate from a young age to get hands on with any animal i came in contact with. We had many pets growing up including a horse and other more familiar creatures such as a rabbit and a hamster. Now my father was also a scuba diving instructor so my brother and i were regularly in the open sea diving and snorkeling along side my dad. He taught me about handling the animals and being able to judge their behavior. My mother was also great with the animals and that’s the life i had growing up. It was based around nature the sea and our love of science.
When i was around 7 or 8 years old i asked for a microscope for Christmas and that’s what i got. So i went around picking up dead animals, wood and leaves and studying the structure. It was the wing of a dragonfly that really caught my attention. The coloration , iridescence and translucency of it amazed me and i was hooked. Our neighbors had many bird species including parrots and a close friend had many reptiles so i was soon learning about the more unusual species too. I now love all animals, air, land and sea.
So roll on several years and feeding my enthusiasm i continued to learn. I first went to college and did a performing arts diploma then after that it was animal management diploma, vet nursing and other qualifications including business management. So in early 2007 i knew there were companies out there taking animals into schools and doing children's parties but i saw many of them and thought i had the skills to do it better. I love performing and class what i do as entertainment which is where i’m different to other animal shows. I will have you all excited, educated and more confident at the end of the session. I actually teach curriculum subjects in the school with the use of a live animal handling sessions. My animals are my children, they belong to me and will be with me forever. Anyway I took my plan to the princes trust and roll on to now, I am still going strong.
I love what i do and that reflects in the comments i get which makes me extremely proud. My motto is Have fun, build confidence and learn.
