Another Saturday, another summer fair! I’m here from 11-2 today. Come along and support another great local school!

I’m looking forward to providing my services for Polegate School PFA this weekend for their summer fair! I met with Rachel today on site and they have an amazing range of stalls and activities, and a gladiatorial contest between houses represented by teachers! The weather is looking fine - bring the whole family!

Lots of wonderful stalls to peruse, crafts, food, the famous tombola! All and more to be found at the fair next weekend. Come and join us for fun or if you have some spare time offer us a little volunteer help on our stalls.

Event number 3 for this weekend is the wedding of an old school friend! Shaun and Heidi chose to have their reception at the beautiful Claverton Hotel, near Westfield. The weather is perfect to enjoy the grounds during the sunshine, and we’ll be dancing from dusk later.

Back at Grovelands Community Primary School in July doing discos for all the pupils, but a very special party for the Year 6 leavers! It’s always a pleasure to announce all the arrivals by name as they step out of their vehicles and then we’ll have a blast on the dancefloor!

With my bud, my best man (and I was his) Mark 'Haff' Haughan, recording the 300th edition of his Colourblind Blues Show - a show that started many years back with a chance 'can I do a blues show?' back in the early days of Hailsham FM, and has led him to all sorts of blues-related loveliness - sponsoring and attending, and being nominated for, national awards and, just this weekend, hosting the Booze & Blues festival in Leicester. Congrats on 300 shows dude - proud to be a little part of it!

So … I am currently recording Edition 300 of the show with my bestie, Neil Povey - DJ & Event MC. Its an “Influences Special” featuring all our favourite blues artists. Can’t wait for y’all to hear it. 😎

Finishing this extreme event weekend (4 in 28 hours, with 2 hours’ sleep 😮‍💨) with a 60th birthday for Chris at The Crown & Anchor, and very happy to bump into ex-pupils from my very first class when I was a Newly Qualified Teacher, at the back end of the last century no less! Lordy, I’m old!

It's another busy weekend with very little sleep in prospect! I'm at Chalk Farm Hotel in Willingdon tonight to celebrate birthdays with Lea and Jay.

4 hours' sleep, then I'm up early for a 5am start, on the Wayne Spicer Radio Show as he marks his 400th show with a special 24 hour fundraiser, raising money for You Raise Me Up and Hailsham FM. Many of the presenters will be taking part - he gets going at 8pm tonight - good luck Wayne!

Sunday afternoon, means Musical Bingo on behalf of Twilite at The Martello Inn and then off to The Crown & Anchor, Eastbourne for Steve’s 60th!

Karen Nicholls, alongside Cllr. Mary Laxton and sponsors Colston Ltd and Alinker demonstrated that she is passionate about inclusivity, for both participants and spectators today. She led this aspect of the Hailsham Active Run, which was open to people of all abilities with a 1 mile inclusive event, in which Karen took part herself. She told me the support of the voluntary marshals from Hailsham United Junior Football Club was awesome and the noise from the crowd as she crossed the line was roarsome!

I spoke to blind runner Alison and her guide Helen (an ultra-marathoner) about their particular challenges (potholes - sort it out ESCC!) and how selecting a guide is a very personal thing.

Also running today was Becky, pushing her daughter Rosie, who has Rett syndrome. The two of them raised over £550 towards sending their friend Megan (who has Pitt-Hopkins syndrome and similar needs to Rosie) on a trip to Australia.

With a Mobiloo on site for all, it’s a big well done to all the team for an inclusivity triumph! ⭐️

I’m a Dad. My twins are 18 now but it’s still a role that’s really important to me - their needs may be different but I love the young adults they’ve become and still live every high and low with them.

Spending time with other parents really helps and chatting to other dads in particular absolutely makes me more thoughtful about how I parent but, more than anything, having that network about for the tricky times as well as the good ones is so useful. Brilliant to see some Dad networking opportunities coming to my home town!

Our second Dad's Stay & Play group is starting THIS WEEK at Hailsham Family Hub! 😀 In partnership with Parents in Mind, this is an opportunity for dads to build a support network, share experiences of fatherhood, and have fun with the kids 🌊

A super busy spring weekend for me, kicking off with an 11th birthday party for Skyla at St. Luke’s Parish Centre, Stone Cross, then a quick jaunt down the road to The Farm Friday Street Pub & Restaurant to celebrate Andrea’s 40th. Flower wall and LED numbers by Twilite who I work with regularly. I’ll be home by about 1am, then up for a 6:45 start in my hometown for the Hailsham Active Run - I’ll be on The Hive 2024 stage - you won’t miss it - to bring some atmosphere and keep everyone up to date with what’s going on. Come along to support the runners from 9!

A busy Friday - back to back discos for Grovelands - FROGS this afternoon followed by a retirement celebration for Bob & Karen at Bibendum. I've known this lovely couple many years, since their children attended the school where I taught, and, when my wife was expecting our twins over 18 years ago, we had the privilege of Bob carrying out scans as they grew, but I can hardly believe they are retiring! All the best Bob & Karen - enjoy your evening!
