7 years ago The Lewis Foundation officially became a registered charity.
In 2010, following Lee Lewis's mum's cancer diagnosis, Lorraine and Lee spent 5 years in and out of a hospital setting.
It was an eye opener for us that in adult cancer wards and treatment rooms, there was so much loneliness, boredom, isolation and some people could not afford the basic things.
We wanted to do something to change that, to make people's day a little bit brighter and let people know that as a society, we care about what you're going through, even though we are strangers.
We were told so many times:
It won't work.
It will not be sustainable
Why wouldn't you charge people for a gift?
We continued to push through and when the patients/hospital staff started spreading the word that a gift such as a puzzle book, a blanket or a craft set, is simple but it does make a huge difference knowing someone out there cares enough to think about them and send them some love.
7 years later...
17 hospital partnerships later - Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes, Leicester, Luton & Dunstable, Bedford, Cambridge, Stoke On Trent, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Chesterfield.
Now providing a choice of 29 different gift packs for people to pick from. All branded, new items for people to enjoy for free.
Working with wholesalers/businesses to get the cost of our gifts to £3.60, enabling us to help people on a wider scale.
Raised 1 million pounds to support our work.
Won 28 awards locally, regionally and nationally.
Amazing individuals, volunteers, community and corporate supporters - locally, regionally and nationally.
Given away over 100,000 gifts to support adult cancer patients through treatment.
Thank you to everyone who has supported The Lewis Foundation over the last 7 years. We are so proud to be supported by so many people who want to make a difference to the lives of others.
