There has been rather a large shift in the wedding world in the last year, with an enormous increase in shorter days and more initimate weddings being chosen. Many more are opting for mid/late-afternoon ceremonies, marquee weddings on private land and boutique hotels compared to big venues. I guess it's the fallout from Covid and the cost of living crisis, or perhaps just a change in mindset and priorities. Having been in the industry almost 14 years, it is the biggest shift I've ever seen but I am totally here for it. Loving the shorter, more intimate days as much as the big celebrations 🥳

** It's Like Rain **
This was a tricky one as there hasn't been too much rain at my weddings over the last year or two, other than the odd drizzle. This one, however, poured almost all day with only very brief respites. Waterproof covers were firmly on my cameras though so I was good to go and despite the heavens opening halfway through the evening couple shoot, this gorgeous couple did not mind a bit

** You're So Golden **
Getting a bit behind with so I'm going to casually flick through the best prompts from the last few days. We've been lucky to have had some pretty killer golden hours this year, even on days where rain has happened or been forecast. Look at all the pretty 🙌

** Ceremony **
Be it a beautiful religious ceremony, a lovely civil ceremony, a tailor-made celebrant ceremony, or an intimate hand-fasting, the ceremony will always be the best moment of the day for the couple. That said, it will also be one of the hardest parts to fully remember without photo and/or film to look back on - so never skimp on coverage for this. Memories fade, photos and film don't (unless you haven't double backed-up...so double back-up!) 🧡

** Let's Dance ** Photographing the dancefloor when it's heaving is one of my favourite parts of the day to capture. Any prim or properness goes out the window after an afternoon of unbridled joy & alcohol and it makes for the best photos!

** Candid magic ** So I've skipped a few days of the but I'm back.

Sometimes wedding moments are fleeting and brilliant, mad and silly, charming and funny. The blink and you miss it kind of ones that you would never remember the next day if they weren't caught on camera. Much like these antics which I love. Bouncy castles really need to be a bigger thing at weddings - and I mean the kinds for grown-ups. They are magic and bring out the inner child - we all need a bit of that from time to time ✨

** Break the mould **
Day 4 of the and although this is one that I associate shot for there isn't one more fitting for this title. From doing her own hair and make-up, to embroidering her own wedding dress and making her own evening dress, to making the grooms' tie and napkins, to picking wildflowers for decorations, it was a day completely their own - limited in tradition and simply a small family affair full of love and grace.

** Confetti **
Flipping love a bit of confetti - whether it be dried rose petals or biodegradable paper, it is a tradition that can't be beaten. Sadly when I got married our venue didn't allow confetti, so anyone that gets the chance - go for it, and then some 🙌

Another year, another attempt! This wedding was brimming with colour, from a green ombre dress, pink ombre veil, bright pink flowers, and miniature pink pineapple buttonholes. I love the splash of colour added to the shoes here 🌈

B & D's fantastic wedding day filled with love, joy, and tons of unique touches. This wedding was all about the couple sharing what they truly love with the people they love.

From the moment I arrived, I could sense the excitement in the air. The ladies were eagerly getting ready in their lobster pyjamas, while the bridal dress from had a beautiful flash of pink, perfectly reflecting her vibrant personality. It was clear that this was going to be a day full of fun surprises.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the brilliant celebrant who captured the essence of the couple's love story in a heartfelt, personal, and genuine way. To add an extra touch of uniqueness, the couple had a ceremonial cocktail mixing - how cool is that!

The reception was full of nods to musicals in the decor, reflecting the couple's shared love for music and theatre. The speeches were one of a kind, with a special adaptation of a song from Hamilton turned into a sung speech by the bride's sister. It was a moment of pure delight and entertainment for everyone present and there was barely a dry eye by the end of it.

The venue, provided a lovely backdrop for the day and the food was absolutely mouthwatering, with paella from stealing the show. The couple decided to have a bouncy castle for their guests to enjoy, which was the perfect way to let loose and embrace everyone's inner child!

Overall, this beautiful and fun wedding day was a perfect reflection of the couple's personalities and love for each other. It was an honor to be a part of their special day!

A few frames from D & A's incredible day, held on the beautiful island of Anglesey. The couple had chosen to have a marquee reception in a family garden. The marquee looked out onto stunning views of Snowdonia, adding a breathtaking backdrop. As the evening progressed and the sun set, the marquee came alive with twinkling lights.

What made this event truly special was the perfect balance between the grandeur of the occasion and the intimate atmosphere created by the couple. There was a strong focus on family and friends, and D & A wanted to ensure that their loved ones felt embraced and included throughout the entire celebration. They were especially keen on making it a child-centered event, ensuring that the little ones had a fun and memorable experience too, including a bouncy castle, ball pit, ping pong and Shaun the Sheep space hoppers (these should be compulsory at EVERY child friendly wedding) 🐑

What a breathtaking day at the picturesque Plas Nanteos Mansion in Mid-Wales. It was an emotional experience filled with love, joy and SO MANY happy tears.

As I arrived at Plas Nanteos Mansion, I was immediately struck by its stunning beauty. The grandeur of the venue, surrounded by fields of sheep and rolling hills, set the perfect backdrop for this love-filled celebration.

When you get married during the pandemic in Germany and want a photoshoot whilst holidaying in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

True story - I practiced my German before this shoot as I lived in Germany for a while after university, but it quickly became apparent that their English was far superior to my very rusty German so I chickened out. I am so glad that my daughter's school introduces modern languages at primary school age for this exact reason.

10 frames from A & D's wonderful day. The marquee by County Marquees Ltd was simply beautiful – filled with white flowers and green foliage by Hilarys Floral Design that perfectly complimented the hot summer day. Welly wanging, throw the horseshow, and other games kept the guests entertained and laughing away.

One of my favorite parts of the day was when the sun started to set and the festoon lights came on. They added the perfect touch of magic to the already enchanting atmosphere, and really set the tone for the rest of the evening.

But above all, it was the couple that stole the show. They were so clearly in love and happy to be surrounded by their family and friends. As a documentary wedding photographer, I love capturing these authentic moments and telling the story of the day through my pictures.

Overall, this wedding was a joy to photograph and a true celebration of love. I'm grateful to have been a part of it and to have captured such beautiful memories for the happy couple to cherish for years to come. Can't wait to edit the full gallery!

It’s kind of an unwritten rule in the photography community that no couple must be left without a photographer at short notice. Our network will always bend over backwards to make sure this is the case when a fellow photographer is too poorly to attend (every photographer’s worst nightmare and a once in a blue moon event). With the Covid pandemic this has continually been put to the test, but our community always comes up trumps. Earlier this year a friend and colleague, the very lovely and talented Laura Rhian Photography, who we first worked with when filming a wedding she was photographing in 2015, got the dreaded positive covid test result and she reached out to me to see if I could cover a wedding on her behalf. It’s always a little odd covering a wedding when you’ve had no prior contact with the couple, and they’re expecting someone else, but it couldn’t have been a more relaxed and fun day. It poured with rain on and off, but there were smiles all round. Here is a speedy snapshot of their day, where all their friends and family pitched in and almost everything was handmade - even the Bride’s dress.
