TONY WASS & NINTH WAVE AUDIO
Tony Wass, a former BBC Senior Sound Supervisor, Senior Studio Manager & Sound Recordist/Dubbing Mixer, established Ninth Wave Audio in 1993 to provide sound recording services to the BBC, independ
ent companies and CD and DVD producers. Since then NWA has established itself as one of the foremost sound recording companies in Europe, combining state of the art technology with a sound and production team of the highest quality. Tony has 40 years of experience in the recording and broadcast industry. He joined the BBC as a Technical Assistant at Bush House Control Room, London, in 1976 transferring a year later to BBC Pebble Mill as an Audio Assistant. He progressed to Audio Supervisor three years later during which time he gained a thorough knowledge of television, radio and film production techniques. He was promoted to Senior Sound Supervisor in 1988 and was involved and responsible for the sound of many prestigious radio and TV productions from Pebble Mill and other BBC centres over many years, including ‘Boys from the Blackstuff’ which won a BAFTA award for sound. A major highlight was supervising the BBC TV simulcast of the 1991 Royal Gala opening of Symphony Hall, Birmingham, transmitted live to Europe via the EBU, in which the CBSO and Sir Simon Rattle performed Mahler’s Symphony no.2. The implementation of ‘Producer Choice’ within the BBC and the attendant opportunity for independent production facilities enabled Tony to leave in 1993 and launch Ninth Wave Audio as a state of the art digital sound facility for location recording and post production. NWA subsequently worked for many clients, including the BBC, pioneering the use of fibre optic links to the venue. To date Ninth Wave Audio has made thousands of radio and TV programmes, commercial CDs and DVDs in a multitude of locations and venues with many of the world’s finest artists. We are a major supplier of OB facilities to the BBC and also long time partners with Classic Arts, the acclaimed independent music production company. Ninth Wave Audio continues to maintain the highest standards in sound and production. In September 2015 Ninth Wave Audio launched our new HD Sound OB Vehicle capable of 128 Channel recording and mixing in a flexible and small vehicle.
