Good news and bad news...

😔 The bad news is that I've made the difficult decision to cancel my pop-up afternoon tea event on 27th April. I'm sorry to let you down if you had booked or were planning to, but I'm afraid I just hadn't made enough ticket sales to make the event worthwhile, and time wasn't on my side! BUT, afternoon teas are still available to book for delivery or collection on 13th, 20th and 27th April - so please get in touch today if that's something you're interested in!

😊 The good news is that I've had an influx of orders since my last post about the costs of childcare, and I'm now less than £150 away from reaching my target! I'm overwhelmed by all your support, so thank you so much, and please keep those enquiries coming in! If I haven't reached my goal by tomorrow, expect a flash sale of cupcakes and letterbox treats!

Help a mama out!

Did you know that in order to qualify for tax-free childcare and the new 15 hours of funded childcare for 2 year olds, both parents need to earn a minimum of £8668 per year in profit (not just income)? And that's about to go up to £9518 for the 24/25 tax year!

That might not sound like a lot to some, but for a self-employed mum who runs her business part-time, it's not easy to maintain a steady profit (see graphs 📈, if you like graphs!)... especially when your child can't actually go to nursery because they're ill, you can't work for weeks on end because of pregnancy sickness, you have big expenses that put you in the red, or you have the audacity to take time off for a holiday!

With only 3 days left in the tax year, I find myself a few hundred pounds short of reaching my target. So close, yet so far! 🫠 Making sure we qualify for those 15 funded hours of childcare per week for our toddler will make a huge difference to my morale and our pockets during my maternity leave. But I can't get there without some help!

I understand afternoon teas and homemade cakes are a luxury, but if you're in a position where you're considering placing an order this month, please take a look at my previous post ('Don't delay, book today!') for some ways you can support my business, and please get in touch to book before the 5th April deadline!

Here's a little throwback to my pastry chef days in the Jesmond Dene House kitchen to let you all know I'm now hosting my very own Afternoon Tea event!

Join us for an afternoon tea to remember on
⭐️Saturday 27th April, 1-2-30pm, at Bensham Grove⭐️
as we celebrate one last hurrah before I go on maternity leave!

The afternoon tea menu will include an array of homemade sandwiches, savoury pastries, scones and sweet treats, including some favourites from the past four years and some new additions (plus plenty of tea and coffee). It will be held in the beautiful and historical setting of Bensham Grove, and served buffet style so you can choose all your favourites, and eat as much as you like until it's all gone!

Early bird tickets (available until 5th April): £20pp
Full price tickets: £25pp

- 1 brown sugar cupcake with Biscoff buttercream, a Biscoff and white chocolate nest, and golden speckled white chocolate eggs
- 1 carrot, cinnamon and apple cupcake with vanilla buttercream
- 1 Mini Eggs cookie bar, studded with Cadbury Mini Eggs and milk chocolate chunks
- 1 chocolate bronut (donut-shaped dark chocolate brownie with white chocolate chips, dipped and drizzled in more chocolate)
- 1 Smarties tiffin egg
- 3 hand decorated iced lemon biscuits (bunny, chick, egg)

Available for collection on Thursday evening or Saturday morning (NE8 3JA). I have a very limited amount of these available, as I'm running low on packaging, so get them while you can! Please message to order.

It's about time I let you in on a little secret... we're expecting baby #2 around the end of May! 👶

It's going to mean some big changes for the business as I wrap things up before maternity leave, but for now I'll just say:

- keep an eye out for our Easter treat boxes this week
- all orders for April must be booked and paid for by 5th April
- I'll be ending on a bang, so please save the date, 27th April, for our pop-up afternoon tea event! Tickets coming soon!

Savoury:
- BLT in a brioche roll
- Truffle chicken finger sandwich

Our Mother's Day afternoon teas are now sold out, but we have a small number of treat boxes still available to order! These are priced at £14 each and include:

- Jammie Dodger blondie
Gooey vanilla blondie with white chocolate chips and swirls of raspberry jam, topped with a Jammie Dodger biscuit

- Mini Eggs cookie bar
A slab of fudgy cookie packed with whole Mini Eggs and milk chocolate chunks, topped with crushed Mini Eggs

Mother's Day Bakes 🙌

Thank you to everyone who took part in our Instagram and Facebook polls - 100% of you voted to bring back our letterbox treats for the summer... so we have! We're even doing a batch this week! We've got two new flavours to choose from: Mars Bar brownie and gingernut tiffin 🍫 www.sweetandfair.co.uk/shop/p/letterbox-treats Get your orders in ASAP so we can get your treats made and in the post on Thursday for delivery anywhere in the UK 🇬🇧

WEEKDAY AFTERNOON TEA!! 😲 Up until now we've only been delivering on Saturdays. I was a bit apprehensive about adding weekday teas to the website, as it meant I'd have to make the deliveries myself and I find driving around new places a little nerve-wracking! (My husband kindly does the driving on Saturdays.) But having sat in the passenger seat every week for the past few months, I feel I know the roads around Newcastle and Gateshead a little better, and today I made my first deliveries of our new Weekday Afternoon Teas, in the snow and rain! 💪 Priced at £12.50pp, these are almost the same as our normal afternoon teas, but without the quiche and éclair, and with a different choice of sandwiches. They're also subject to availability, so if you want to book just get in touch with the date/time, number of people and your postcode and we'll let you know whether we can fulfil your order!

Tonight is 🍫 chocolate week 🍫 on Bake Off... so here's a chocolate cake I made for the occasion in 2018, with a Newcastle skyline chocolate collar and a chocolate sail!

We've had a few people asking when they can book for upcoming dates, so we've decided to open bookings for the whole of August to let you plan ahead! (Currently every Saturday in August, but we're considering opening for bank holiday Monday too)
