Off to tell tales at the Bartholomew Fair with our freshly revamped Rag Tag Story Stall.
All our props and sets are made in house and we love explaining them to children at our events. The simple materials and processes make them feel accessible to kids, like they could make one too. We love giving this sense that the real world is their for the making. Especially at a time when so much of children's creativity is chanelled into the digital world.

We are delighted to announce that this Thursday 14th, the Rag Tag Story Stall will be returning to the Bartholomew Fair in the City of London! Come join us for an afternoon of fun and fantasy, as we bring you tales of fleeing currant buns, miraculous jugglers, mysterious ointments, and of course, wiley foxes aplenty.

If you missed us at St Botolph's Without Aldgate last week, now is your chance to experience the magic of the fair.

Mysteries of the Mini-Forests, my show about 🌱moss🌱, is back with a new story and brand new puppets.

It's popping up at Cambridge Club ( ) this weekend with our dear pals Tootles + Nibs ( ) before I take it to Forest of Imagination ( ) in Bath on the 16th and 17th June.
I still can't get enough of peering into the tiny green fuzz on every wall I pass and true to that love the show dives into the tiny world of a patch of moss following Bryony, the derermined but hapless scientist. It's packed with learning about ecosystems, tiny creatures, and the deep history of life, all tangled up in play and story.

PS the illustrations are by me ✍️

Here is are some sneak peaks from their film! We are so proud of what they have made.
When Elena () invited Oliver () to collaborate on this project we couldn't have know what a ride it would be. From exploring the archives in Stratford and hunting wild plants in the streets with our volunteers to gathering a wonderful group of 9-11 to make drawings, masks, animations, soundscapes (with ) and stories. It's been a blaze of creativity all inspired by the life and work of Newham artist Madge Gill. Thank you for making it possible.

At the event there will be
Food from
An art workshop from Elena
Stories from Oliver
An exhibition of the children's work
And of course
The premier of their film "Message from the Flower Future"

So do come along!
P.s. the project all kicked off when Elena spotted Madge Gill's work on display arround Newham in the s exhibition. Do go and visit for yourselves!

It’s been a dream so far getting to work with on our new collaboration and we thought an introduction was in order.
Elena is a visual and community artist who lives on a beautiful canal boat and has a studio at where she makes maps, murals, paintings and some really brilliant workshops for the community here in Newham. Her maps are especially beautiful and tell the stories of working class and minority groups. But there is so much more and her latest paintings inspired by the natural world are gorgeous. Go and have a look on her profile to see what we mean!
Of course we are very excited for the first session of Madge Gill: Portal to the Future on Wednesday 26th. Elena has devised an ink drawing and watercolour workshop and Oliver will be there bringing it to life with stories. We really can’t wait to see what the children will make! Elena also made this pattern for the background of the poster for the project... we love it!
There are still a few places left.

Madge Gill is filling my dreams with her energetic ink drawings this Spring AND thanks to our friends at you can find her gorgeous works sprouting from the urban landscape of Newham like wildflowers. Their exhibition ‘Madge Gill: Nature in Mind’, curated together with Sophie Dutton, celebrates the inspiration Madge found from natural surroundings. Madge used to bring her largest ink drawings into the garden to have a look at them and the exhibition brings her work outdoors again as large installations.
The long drawing opposite Star Lane DLR is just down the road from the Patcvhlarks studio and is the first time I saw Madge Gills amazing work! Thanks The Line!

The five sites of Madge Gill’s work on The Line are:
1. Network Rail underpass in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
2. The House Mill at Three Mills Lane
3. Opposite Star Lane DLR.
4. Royal Victoria Dock, by Emirates Air Line terminal
5. UKPN Bridge, Cody Dock

Find out more about Madge Gill’s works and view them on a map at the-line.org .

And before I go just to let you know we have a few places left on the 6-week children’s art mission Madge Gill: Portal to the Future at Britannia Village Hall that we are making with – there is a link to sign up in the bio.

Had a fantastic time telling wild and sometimes invented stories with KS2 this National Storytelling Week.
Thank you to the Newham Libraries for having me and for saying such nice things...
"I would thoroughly recommend Patchlarks, engaging, thought-provoking and entertaining. Children and teachers alike were entranced by Oliver’s unique brand of storytelling, inspiring us to enter imaginary worlds full of sounds, smells and excitement. We all came away with unique images and knowledge of wonderful tales that will last a lifetime."

The air has just started to feel crisp and I love it - and so do Glisten and Glow the winter sprites. We are really excited to be setting out on new wintery storytelling adventures all about these charming characters in the Royal Docks this month.
We have a wintery activity and story booklet out which you can pick up for free and I am popping up at six events to tell some of Glisten and Glow's favorite stories!
If you aren''t in the royal docks area you can still download the booklet and read the stories, recipies and jokes. Links are in our bio.
Wishing you all a cosy winter season!

I saw my cute nieces and nephews last weekend, plus I've been at Emerson College in Sussex training in storytelling (9 more weeks to go) and deeply immersed in hedgerows, ancient woodlands and other mysteries. All soul nourishment. Then this popped out.
I'm enjoying the pen and pencil combo. The pencil gets at the textural tangle of ancient woods.
Wishing you all a beautiful Easter Monday of emergence and renewal.
