Howdy, I’m Oli.
I’ve been doing videos since 2012 and if you’d have told me that in 6 years I’d have interviewed hundreds of people I’d have made a face :0 Each project is a vastly new window into another industry, another world. Each with it’s own challenges, pros and cons. And whether its been a wedding, a live band, a world record attempt, a documentary attempt or an online ad for a nut business I’ve learned a lot and I’ve almost always loved something about each job. Though I’m minimal, I’ve certainly become picky about what I want to film and edit in recent years. I love the creative jobs. I’m normally drawn to purpose. I’ve loved promoting ‘Bike to the Future’. A cycling promoting charity local to me because it’s a great cause and I love bicycles :)
Video has become so producable, accessible and great in number in recent times that our attention span has decreased, our impatience has risen with the bombardment of video ads. We’re all waiting for the ‘skip advert’ button in the corner. It’s almost like advertisers have tried everything and so numb have we become that it’s just not working anymore. Slowly we acknowledge and bypass the psychological warfare that it is. mute the ad and check your whatsapp chat. Return to your video. And it’s never been easier to just simply scroll on...
Which is why with the times, video makers have adapted with these changes of the now savvy audience member. Most noticably the rise in subtitles in online videos on social media sites in order to grab the potential veiwers interest and make them turn the sound on. Some have taken the desperate approach of speeding up a 5 min slog into a 1 min rocket ride.
