These bright colours caught my eye today and took me back to this vibrant winter wedding in Birmingham. Make your bouquets and table centrepieces pop by adding hits of colour with contrasting ribbons. Guaranteed to raise a smile 😊

I’m so delighted to see that my brilliant friend Gill has collected a gong in this year’s New Years Honours list for her services to floristry.

This Yorkshire woman is a tour de force and without the experience, confidence, support and friendship which her fledgling gave me when i started out as a flower grower, I dont think I'd be where I am today. Three cheers for you Gill - well done - youve earned it!!đŸŽ–ïž

DIY table flowers - a river of glorious buckets became dainty bottles of blooms to decorate wedding tables for Yas and Matt's festival style wedidng last weekend. It's a lovely project for friends and family but never underestimate just how long it takes to do it! Thanks to for contributing mega dahlias (see what I did there? 😝).

Foraging walks are beautiful at this time of year. Makes me want to crack open the mince pies, put Frank Sinatra’s Christmas album on the speaker, crank up the workshop heater and prepare for wreath-making workshops!

For Pauline. Her own garden trug filled with flowers in the pastel shades that marked her trademark style. There had to be blue. There had to be luxuriant roses (she was a 5* lady after all!). There also had to be a few silk flowers sneaked from the large arrangement that stood in her fireplace which would be recognisable to anyone familiar with her flat. They made me smile.

The flowers were all in water in small containers so went on to decorate the tables at the memorial meal and then went home with nieces and great-nieces to be enjoyed for a few more days.

Last week I planted my narcissi bulbs for next spring. They’re a flower I’ve very much grown to love after discovering the wealth of varieties and it’s always so exciting to see them arrive in March/April as their return heralds the start of the flower growing season.

When I look at this bowl I made to celebrate opening their new Hall Green shop, this song (a marker from my kids primary school days thanks to my husbands eclectic taste) runs through my head. Cue dreamy music and weird voices
 (sound on!).

I have to say that I’m loving my new IPhone for quick pre-delivery snaps when I don’t have time to grab my SLR camera. My old phone was so old that it pre-dated portrait mode and gave me no control over depth of field. I love using this new feature! Don’t know how? Choose ‘portrait’ mode in your iPhone camera, choose the ‘f’symbol (you’ll find it near the top of the image and then use the slider to choose your depth of field. The smaller the number, the shallower the depth of field and the blurrier the background. 💙

Clear night skies gave us chance to see the Aurora Borealis over Birmingham last night (I have to confess that the light pollution being so close to the city meant that my phone captured more than I could actually see as I was late to the party
). Clear skies also brought us the first frost which spells the end for the flower season this year. I’ll still have some blooms and foliage of my own throughout the winter as I plan for seasonal interest, but the days of abundance are officially over until next spring hits its stride. I’m missing the flowers already

Just how gorgeous is Birmingham’s iconic Grand Hotel? I visited for afternoon tea during Heritage Week in September and was absolutely blown away by all its magnificently restored Victorian splendour. If you’re looking for a central Birmingham wedding venue, why not check out the grand ballroom? I would!

I'm so lucky to be so near to these fabulous undertakers (for those of you who don't interact with funerals on a regular basis, I know that will sound like a weird sentence, but it's so NOT weird if you know them!!).

Three cheers for Carrie, Fran and all their brilliant team as they're making life and death better for so many people.

It’s an autumn 🍂 kind of day today. Coming back from the allotment with all the flowers I could carry before tomorrow’s threatened frost, along with enough apples 🍎 to make the world’s biggest crumble! 🍁

Phew - I’ve still got dahlias after squeaking through last night’s chill without succumbing to frosts. I can’t believe we came so close in early September🧣. Hopefully we’ll manage a few more weeks of flowers before Jack Frost comes nipping at the door.

I put a painted backdrop behind this arrangement to block out the reflections (especially of me gurning as I squint through my camera’s viewfinder!). I loved the effect of it so much that I’ve left it up there for the duration of the display - it feels like having a painting propped up on the mantlepiece and one which I can switch up weekly! Now I’ve got an incentive to paint more backdrops in different colours and sizes and I can have endless variety!

I had to chuckle when I saw this reel which Fieldhouse Flowers made today. Gill and I have teamed up to create The Farewell Flowers Directory (Farewell Flowers) and it always pays to work with the right people when you want to create change! Gill is brilliant when it comes to getting a message out. She's been working hard to bring the plastic problem in funeral flowers to public attention at The Great Yorkshire Show and Driffield Show in the last couple of weeks and today came up with this corker! It sums up the aesthetic part of the issue with funeral flowers brilliantly!
If you're wanting flowers that relax, wiggle and tread gently on the planet, check out The Farewell Flowers Directory website to find florists across the UK who can offer more natural choices, plastic-free for 21st Century funerals.
