I had to chuckle when I saw this reel which Fieldhouse Flowers made today. Gill and I have teamed up to create The Farewell Flowers Directory (Farewell Flowers) and it always pays to work with the right people when you want to create change! Gill is brilliant when it comes to getting a message out. She's been working hard to bring the plastic problem in funeral flowers to public attention at The Great Yorkshire Show and Driffield Show in the last couple of weeks and today came up with this corker! It sums up the aesthetic part of the issue with funeral flowers brilliantly!
If you're wanting flowers that relax, wiggle and tread gently on the planet, check out The Farewell Flowers Directory website to find florists across the UK who can offer more natural choices, plastic-free for 21st Century funerals.

Hope to see you at The Coffin Works tomorrow for my pop up with Funeral Flowers as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week and Brum Yodo's 'A Matter of Life and Death Festival.'

It's been a busy week of funeral flowers as I have 4 florists with me on Tuesday, learning more about how to make them without using floral foam, and I'm only just sitting down after a glorious funeral flowers photoshoot with Farewell Flowers Directory as part of it's public launch.

Join me if you can and come and share your own ideas and thoughts about what makes a good funeral and what funeral flowers you'd love!

As part of Dying Matters Awareness Week, we have Carole from joining us for a pop up at the Coffin Works this Saturday 11th May.

Celebrating the launch of their directory, she'll be chatting all about sustainable funeral flowers, giving visitors a chance to think about them in a joyful way and have a go at making a mini wreath or dried flower embellishment to take away. All just included in your Self-Guided ticket so come along for a chat 12pm-3.30pm this Saturday 💐🌻

I just hope no-one needs to wash their hands urgently…. When you live with a florist who’s got her hands on magnolia branches and who can’t find a suitable vase, stuff like this happens. I’ve been kind to my family and have dismantled it now.

January may not be the floweriest month, but it can still provide enough for a pretty bouquet. Find out more about what's providing that key bouquet ingredient: wiggle! I'm going to try to make up a seasonal bouquet every month to chart the changes across the year and the seasons - and I've just squeezed January's effort in before the month ends!

Nearly missed the boat with my resolution to showcase a bouquet representing each month. January isn’t generous with quantities but still has beautiful details. winter honeysuckle makes this bouquet smell amazing and that cascade of Garrya Eliptica tassels (they’re like mini pagodas!) is enough to make me do a little dance. My Garrya is still a baby so I can’t cut much yet - but my fingers itch every time I walk past gardens laden with it’s delightful dangly bits. This tassel came from my own shrub and makes me feel like a very proud mum.

I'm starting 2024 off with a new blog post as I want to explain a little bit more about how I work and where my flowers come from - if you want to find out more, grab a cuppa and settle down for a read!

For freshness, perfume and less plastic If we're interested in a smaller carbon footprint in 2024, it's important to think about the why and how of our consumer choices. Locally grown flowers are always the most planet-friendly option, so why not use them all year round? Locally grown flowers = fewe...

Today's twinkly frosts remind us all that it's nearly December and my workshop is piled high with evergreens in readiness for wreath making season. Want the wildest door in town this year? Order yours via my website (see link above) before 11th December.

There are still a couple of places left on my workshops if you want to try your hand at making your own here at Tuckshop Flowers (my workspace is smelling amazingly Christmassy already!) - see the link on my Christmas page for full dates and details.
