Smoke & Mirrors Smoke & Mirrors create fully interactive, bespoke murder mystery events for people who enjoy unforgettable nights out.

Some “murder mysteries” are simply downloadable packages designed for small groups playing at home; others are put on for larger parties with a few actors and a vague sense of structure. We give you a detailed and believable scenario, unforgettable set-pieces, excellent comedy, and storylines you can really get your teeth into. All our events feature a full cast of brilliant professional actors. T

hey’ll play out scenes in your midst, sit with you, talk to you, and let you interrogate them. Then there’ll be a murder (perhaps more than one), and it’ll be up to you to work who did it, why they did it, and what they did it with. We guarantee our events will be intelligent, action-packed, and great fun.

A Monday “Ancestral Vices” - what a great way to start the week! A stunning venue at Ettington Park and this group were a fabulous audience. No cue was missed, no joke was wasted and so much laughter! Craig was the top detective and Tom won the chocolates for his wonderful Horatio, although there were many other 5* performances. Huge thanks to elaine for great organisation and a fab Spencer Talents/Myrtle and to Gian for looking after us so well.

On Saturday we had the privilege of entertaining this wonderful audience with a riotous "Royal Blood" at the beautiful Mill at Elstead. They were completely brilliant - huge fun and kept us on our toes with their questions. Thank you so much - we'd love to see you again!

Chutney Mary in St James’ Street was the venue for Rahul’s 40th birthday celebration, and what an evening it was! Beautiful venue, fabulous food, stunning fancy dress and a wonderful audience, all brought together superbly by Janki. There was much laughter and some brilliant performances, but after much agonising by us the chocolates went to Raj for her fine Lady Alicia. Great detective work by Priya meant that she won the champagne.
A lovely evening – thank you all for being part of a great Ancestral Vices!

We started November with two more brilliant events. First was a fabulous “Seven Deadly Gins” at Astwood Bank Club flawlessy organised by Andrea. The audience were superb with some memorable moments, including Mia who wrote all her detective notes on paper plates and still got the right killer! However the winning team with the most accurate and detailed answer were “The Muppets” and Aidan won the chocolates for his star turn as Horatio in the guest scene. We had a terrific evening and would love to entertain you again!

"ROYAL BLOOD" at The Mill at Elstead, Saturday 8 November.

ONLY A FEW TICKETS LEFT SO BETTER HURRY!!! When they're gone, they're gone!

It is the autumn of 1882, and famous actress Lillie Langtry has invited the cream of theatrical high society to celebrate her forthcoming departure for America, where she hopes to rebuild her career. But Lillie isn’t counting on the arrival of royalty, the eruption of scandal, and a particularly intriguing blast from the past … So begins a thrilling Victorian black comedy of divas, dilemmas, and dramatic exits.

Our second Halloween event was “Larry Trotter’s Murderous Parody” for Neil and his friends. We were greeted by amazing fancy dress and décor and this pic isn’t enhanced or filtered – it’s exactly as taken!! This lovely audience were part of a wonderfully crazy evening with fine acting and slightly less fine detective skills. However Connie came out on top and won the champagne and the chocolates went to Dan for his fine Luna and wonderful Irish accent. What a great evening!

Our detectives had a great time entertaining Steve and his lovely family at Pettistree House! Lois won the bubbly for finesleuthing and for getting the motive spot on. There were some exceptional performances - Myrtle, Desmond and Basil were superb!! Robin really enjoyed dressing up and Horatio really suited his leather hat!!! But the chocs went to Stella Shades for an outstanding performance. Really an event to remember!

One of the half-term Saturdays found us relatively close to home entertaining Maggie’s family for a fantastic multi-generational family party. The two youngest members of the group proved to be wonderful assistants to our detectives. Special mentions are also due to Kata for her excellent Irish/Hungarian Sister Dolores, to apparently heavy metal-loving Sir Basil and to Lulu (Maggie herself) who I’m told clearly knows that men should be playing second fiddle! Thank you all for being brilliant and huge fun – we’d love to see you again.

A pretty appalling journey on the M25 on a Friday was more than rewarded by a wonderful evening at stunning Knowlton Court. It was a brilliant setting for Brian’s Big Birthday and his friends were a wonderful audience who totally ‘went for it’! Top sleuths were “John & Jamie & Maud” and the guest scene was a riot thanks to some fine acting on the part of the guests in question. Huge thanks to Fenella and Brian for finding us and for making us so welcome. A classic event and a memorable evening!

October was a brilliant and busy month, so time to catch up. First a throwback to a lovely evening with Hollie and her fabulous friends in stunning monochrome attire!!! Lots of people got one murderer correctly but Joss (aka Sister Dolores) came the closest on the tie break question and so won the bubbly. Frankie (Lady Alicia) won the chocs for superb characterisation and never missing a cue!! Thank you all for being such fun!
