ENTRIES OPEN FOR 2024 BRSCC GERRIT VAN KOUWEN ANNIVERSARY FORMULA FORD FESTIVAL

After Friday’s exciting announcement, we're delighted to confirm that entries for the 2024 BRSCC Gerrit Van Kouwen Anniversary Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch on October 19/20 are now OPEN!

Once again we're looking forward to another eclectic and competitive mix of Kent-engined Formula Fords of all ages and chassis to do battle on track together for the coveted Neil Shanahan Trophy and the Brian Jones Memorial Trophy for the Historic Final!

The weekend will also be extra special in celebration of the late, great Gerrit Van Kowuen, honouring 40 years since his incredible Festival victory in 1984 and remembering him after his passing at the beginning of 2024. Our thanks once again go to the Van Kouwen family and Graham Fuller, formerly of Minister Racing Engines, for this collaboration as we look forward to another exciting Festival weekend.

As in previous years, entries will be processed via the RaceHub online system (linked below), so for those looking to take part this year, here's what you need to do:

1️⃣ - If you've never used the BRSCC RaceHub system before, head to the link in this post, register for an account, then click Join Today once logged in, select FFF Membership (free of charge) and complete the form.

2️⃣ - Once completed, and also for anyone who already has a BRSCC RaceHub account and a racing membership, select Race Series from the menu on the left, pick BRSCC Formula Ford Festival and complete the registration form. Fill in all the details of your entry and be sure to list your car's full name including make and model (e.g. Van Diemen RF89, Ray GR19 etc).

3️⃣ - Now you're registered, select Race Entries from the left-hand menu, then pick the 2024 BRSCC Formula Ford Festival event. You can place your entry by either paying the deposit of £50.00, or the full amount of £395.00. Be aware that race numbers are on a “first-come, first-serve” basis, so the earlier you enter, the better chance you have of securing your preferred race number.

Please also note that testing is handled via Brands Hatch and MSV, so contact them for details on how to book or visit the MSV and Brands Hatch website for more details. Testing spots typically fill up fast, so make sure you secure yours before they’re full.

It's one of the greatest single seater contests in the world and one that every driver that competes wants to win and put their name alongside the greats that came before them, especially with this year’s special theme. Join the grid for the 2024 edition now and take your chance to write your name into the history books!

**TOM BANNISTER AWARDED MIDLAND CENTRE MARSHAL OF THE YEAR FOR 2023**

The BRSCC Midlands Centre over a season is supported by some 500 marshals ranging from 180 to cover the Silverstone GP circuit for a British GT event to 80 for shorter circuits. All are trained volunteers freely giving their time to support a well-run race meeting which the BRSCC greatly appreciates and values, and as a club we thank you for all your efforts in 2023.

In appreciation each year, the Midland Centre recognises a BRSCC Marshal for their contribution to the club. At last nights BRSCC Awards evening, Midland Centre Chief Marshal, Nina Fountain presented Tom Bannister with the Marshal of the Year trophy for his efforts throughout 2023.

Regularly assisting the BRSCC as well as other clubs in lead roles, Tom is always willing to assist wherever he can at the drop of a hat. He has superb adaptability and is able to do what is necessary to support both fellow marshals and the BRSCC, always with a friendly smile each time.

Tom is also seen as an excellent “on the job” trainer, as he’s passed on his wisdom and expertise to the next generations of marshals that are always being cultivated, and it’s no surprise that those who have benefitted from this person’s training have all gone on to achieve their own great successes as marshals in their own right.

For many of his fellow marshals, including the centre’s chief marshal Nina Fountain, Tom is seen to make everyone’s role so much easier and straightforward to perform, thanks to his helpfulness, friendliness, knowledge and extremely high capabilities. It is this, plus all of the reasons stated, that made him a perfect nomination for the Marshal of the Year award.

Well done, and thank you Tom!

BRSCC Midland Centre Chairman and Board Director, Trevor Parry, welcomes Nina Fountain as BRSCC Midland Centre Chief Marshal from the 2023 season, following Alan Tyson's decision to step down after five years, which included the challenge of two Covid hit seasons. Over the next three months Alan and Nina will work together to manage the change of responsibilities and Nina's contact details can be found on the BRSCC Website Midland section.

Nina, who was awarded in 2021 Midland Centre Marshal of the Year, has supported Alan during his tenure and now steps up from her Deputy Chief Marshal role. Nina has many years' experience as an official undertaking a wide variety of duties, and also as an occasional racer, who is well acquainted with track limits! As an accredited Motorsport UK marshals' trainer and assessor, these roles will greatly assist Nina in her new BRSCC position.

"I'm really looking forward to the 2023 season which includes a wide range of events from the new Audi TTCR, prestigious two TCR rounds, and three British GT meetings within the Midland region portfolio of events. There are also further exciting plans which will be announced during the coming season." says Nina.

Commenting on Nina's appointment, Trevor Parry said "Nina brings great deal of experience and will be an asset as Chief Marshal. Her new role also includes joining the BRSCC Midland Centre Committee who look forward to supporting and working with Nina. I would also like to thank Alan Tyson for his contribution and hard work and am pleased he will continue officiating."

More news on the BRSCC's 2023 volunteering process will be announced soon.

We are sad to learn of the passing of our long-standing Chief Scrutineer and friend David Baxter MBE.

Our thoughts are with David's family, friends and colleagues at this sad time.

For everything you did for the club, and for the future of motorsport, David, thank you.

𝗜𝗡 𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗗𝗔𝗩𝗜𝗗 𝗕𝗔𝗫𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗠𝗕𝗘

The BRSCC is saddened to learn of the passing of long-standing club member and BRSCC Midland Centre Chief Scrutineer David Baxter MBE.

David was an active supporter of BRSCC for many years. A senior engineer for Land Rover his other interests included owning a canal barge and supporter of the Scouting Movement. David was best known as a Scrutineer and in particular Chief Scrutineer for the BRSCC Midland Centre. Whilst strict and one to ensure the greatest level of safety, David was also keen to help competitors when they had a scrutineering problem. David was a larger-than-life character who will be sadly missed around the paddock.

David was the leading light in SUNBAC, the Sutton Coldfield and North Birmingham Automobile Club, which was one of the oldest UK Motor Sport clubs – sadly now defunct. He was the Clerk of the Course for the club and had a small team of loyal and hard working members who helped him to run a Sporting Trial, two or three sprints and a race meeting at Silverstone. He had taken over this role after the sudden death of his predecessor and, at short notice, his first job was to run a race meeting at Silverstone where the club had managed to get sponsorship from the Birmingham Evening Mail to run a round of a prestigious Formula 3 championship.

David was a consummate host following a race meeting at an excellent hostelry somewhere in the Midlands. David was renowned for his love of steak ‘au bleu’ – usually T-bone. This was an issue during the BSE scare as he wasn’t allowed the T-bone and he had to have it drastically over-cooked for his liking.

David’s view as an organiser was to give the competitor value for money; his events were no-frills. He cut expenses to the minimum to give them the lowest entry fee that he could and as a result was able to secure excellent grids and good championships. He was one of the last organisers to run true Formula Libre and this was most notable when Tony Sugden’s Lotus blew off the top Libre single seaters.

Apart from fairness and looking after competitors’ interests, David will be remembered for kindness, friendship, leadership and may other traits. He was also a great supporter of British marshals. He certainly looked after marshal at his meetings but was also a great benefactor to the BMMC both during and after the demise of SUNBAC.

The BRSCC wishes to send its sincerest thoughts and condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of David during this difficult time

With thanks to former BRSCC Midland Centre Clerk of the Course Jeremy Edwards for his kind input to this obituary.

**JAYDEN FIRTH AWARDED MIDLAND CENTRE MARSHAL OF THE YEAR**

The BRSCC Midland Centre is supported by over 500 marshals over the course of a season. All of whom are trained volunteers freely giving their time to support a well-run race meetings which the club greatly appreciates and values. So, we take this opportunity to thank you all of you for your efforts in 2022.

In appreciation each year, the Midland Centre recognises a BRSCC Member Marshal for their contribution to the club. Last weekend Trevor Parry, Chairman of the BRSCC Midlands Centre awarded the Marshal of the year Trophy to a BRSCC Junior Member at the BRSCC Awards 2022.

The 2022 Marshal of the Year was awarded to Jayden Firth. At just 14 years old Jayden is an instrumental part of the BRSCC's race control team in the midlands region, managing the club's race control event logging system which requires huge amounts of concentration and attention to detail in what sometimes is a challenging environment. Jayden all supports the club as an assembly area marshal, and many of the club's drivers will recognise Jayden having been subject to his polite orders at the start of a session!

Jayden has recently been successful in completing his ARDS test with The Motorsports School" ahead of obtaining a competition licence in 2023. In recognition the BRSCC are also awarding a voucher covering one free entry to a BRSCC Fiesta Junior Event.

Well done, Jayden, keep up the great work.
