Leicester and Notts Celebrant I am a civil celebrant and conduct and funerals for families who want to celebrate a life Talking is an important part of grieving.

UPDATE ON FUNERAL SERVICES - OCTOBER 2020

As a Civil Celebrant who takes funerals, I am very aware of the pain caused to so many families who are unable to have a ‘proper’ service for their loved one during these very unusual times. Numbers attending funerals are still restricted and so many people are opting to have a direct cremation and plan a memorial service when things are more normal. Back

in March I don’t think anyone realised just how long this situation was going to last and we really have no idea when ‘normal’ will return! Even when a service can be held, many people won’t be able to attend – you may well be front line health and emergency service providers who have to be on duty, you may be self-isolating or unable to travel. There are many reasons why you’re not able to say that final goodbye to your loved one. If they died in hospital you may not have been able to visit them at the end. This all adds to your sadness, confusion – and often anger – as you mourn the loss of someone you love. Several years’ experience has shown me that one of the key elements of saying that final goodbye to a loved one is putting together the service – choosing music, readings, and preparing a eulogy. Families always get great comfort from remembering the deceased through anecdotes, and there is often a great deal of laughter as well as tears when I meet them to discuss the funeral. For those of you unable to have a formal service at the moment, I now offer a service whereby I will do everything I normally do – talk on the phone/FaceTime (replacing face to face meetings), write a eulogy, then put together a service which I will send to you so you can share it with one another. You may even decide to hold a mini service in your home. As it will all be done remotely there are no geographical limits but as I am only one person and each service will be totally personal to you, I have to be realistic on what I can provide – so am offering this service for a flat fee of £75. Most of our contact can be by email, but I would like to talk to you when we are planning the service
If the person who has died, or their next of kin, is a bona fide ‘front line’ worker in the NHS or one of the emergency services (police, fire, ambulance) this service will be completely FREE. If this is something you think would help you/your family please email me in the first instance [email protected] and tell me a little about your circumstances. These are challenging times for all of us, but if I can help you a little as you try and deal with your grief then please contact me.

With the cost of living rises affecting all aspects of life, including arranging a loved one's funeral, many are choosing what is called a 'direct cremation' which has no service for mourners. This obviously saves money but may leave family and friends with no outlet for their grief. As a civil celebrant I offer two new services that may help - Celebration of Life and a Tribute Writing Service. Full details can be found on my website www.leicesterandnottscelebrant.co.uk

For an initial free consultation please email me at [email protected] or call 07977837532 (please leave a message).

Were you unable to have the funeral you wanted for a loved one during the pandemic?
No chance to celebrate the life of someone special? Unable to talk about memories, share anecdotes and remember their life, whether long or short?
Maybe you had a direct cremation because funerals can be very expensive or because the deceased had requested that.
We still have to grieve, and funerals have traditionally been one way to share and express our grief. There is usually someone – either a close family member, friend or celebrant - who talks about the life of the person who has died, and this triggers memories, some sad, some happy, that help the grieving process. Not having a funeral service means that part of grieving has been lost.
I offer a solution. As an experienced celebrant of over 8 years, having taken over 700 funerals, I will write your loved one’s story so you can share it with family and friends. I will talk to you – either face to face or online depending on location and collate as much information about the person who has died that you want me to have. I will then draft a written tribute that you can treasure as a permanent reminder of the life of your loved one.
It can be long or short, can include anecdotes and memories from different people. If you want to take it a step further, we can include photos and have special copies printed. At the end of the day, it must be the document that you want and are happy with – and that commemorates the life of someone you loved.
Why not give me a call for an informal chat?

The last 2 years have been so difficult for everyone. For those of you who have lost a loved one during this period it has been even harder as you were unable to say that final goodbye in the way you would have wished.

This in no way diminished your grief, and in many cases I’m sure it made it even worse as you were unable to be close to other family and friends to share that grief.

Now that things are slowly opening up again, many of you may be thinking of arranging a celebration of life or memorial service for someone who died during the pandemic – but where to start? A funeral of a sort has been held and the funeral director took care of the practicalities then, – but what about now?

Hopefully that is where I can help. As an experienced civil celebrant I can advise and guide you as you make important decisions as to the sort of event you want to arrange, what content you want, location, dates etc. There are so many possibilities – from an informal gathering in someone’s garden to a tree-planting to a picnic in a favourite spot or a more formal event in a community venue – there are really no limits.

My input can be as little or as much as is needed to make sure that your loved one’s memory is celebrated in the way you want. I can write a simple tribute to the deceased, recommend poems/readings, put together a full ‘service’, suggest venues and make bookings on your behalf.

My fee starts at £100 for writing a tribute, rising to £300 which would include making venue bookings etc, (although all additional costs re hiring venues, printing memorial booklets, flowers etc are your responsibility).

To find out more please get in touch with me for an informal, free and no obligation, chat about what you are looking for.

It would be my privilege to help you finally say a proper goodbye to your loved one.
