Really sad to hear of the passing of Simon Peel today. Such a genuinely warm, kind man - both behind the mic and 'in real life'... a characteristic that is rarer than it should be.

Without Simon there probably wouldn't be a Gaydio today and if there was, it would be far inferior to the one people know and love.

Rest in peace, pal.

We’re sad to announce that Simon Peel, one of our original and longest-serving members of the Gaydio team, sadly passed away this morning.

Joining the team for our original pilot broadcast back in 2006, Simon became a core part of our on air team, serving both our national audience, and more recently looking after one of our evening shows, focused around our Manchester audience. His most recent show was just before Christmas

As well as on air, Simon was instrumental in keeping the station on air with his technical knowledge. It’s fair to say there was little that with a longer cable and roll of gaffer tape he couldn’t fix. His passion and commitment to Gaydio never stopped and often went above and beyond, often being on call all-times-of day. He did it all in a voluntary capacity, believing in value of operating an LGBTQ+ station.

He will be sorely missed by all here at Gaydio.
