⚠️SHOP UPDATE ⚠️

Hoping you are all keeping well. You may (or may not!) have noticed a total absence from Robin’s Bobbins social media this year and, since Easter, my shop has been closed. Please do not worry, I’m all good, just busy! Please let me explain myself…

In January, I returned to teaching music. I am totally loving being back in the classroom and inspiring children with the subject I love. I also have a weekly register of 15 piano pupils (from ages 7 - 84) which is so enjoyable. And, there’s my 3 lovely boys to look after (and a husband in there somewhere too!). So, with my dear Robin’s Bobbins - the business which I have been running for 10 years this year - any “me” time had been squeezed to extinction. Something had to give, and I took the decision to pause my business to get myself back to normal.

Well, after a couple of months, I have come to some balance. I gain so much pleasure from Robin’s Bobbins, and have worked so hard to build this successful and sustainable business. I have reopened, but will take it slowly and see how it goes. My current dispatch time is 1-2 weeks, there are no express shipping options and, if things get too much, I’ll just close up again and come back when I can.

Therefore, I’m thrilled to say “Hello” again (for now) and welcome back to my home of custom-made costumes and personalised gifts. It’s good to be here!

👋 WELL, HELLO THERE! 👋 It’s been bloomin’ ages since I showed my face, so thought it was about time to say “Hello” again to you all!

• I’m Siân, and have been running my business for 9 years now (as of last week!)
• I also teach piano to both children and adults, and, as from January, will be back in the saddle as a classroom music teacher… this time at our local junior school.
• I have a music degree and grade 8 piano and clarinet
• As an adult, I taught myself Spanish, and took a GCSE with my fellow students, being awarded an A* (that was in the day before number grading!)
• I run a local litter picking group for our area
• I have three awesome boys, aged 12, 9 and 6, and they are my world
• I have been with my husband for over 26 years - wow, that’s more than a quarter century!
• I live with both ADHD and ASD - I believe there’s a fancy term if you have both, called AUDHD!
• I love both glitter and colour, so these headbands are just the ticket!

🎈NINE YEARS 🎈 Eek, nine years in, this is actually feeling quite mega. Happy birthday to my business baby, Robin’s Bobbins.

I am truly grateful for all the joy my business brings me. It may be one of 3 jobs for me now (in addition to 3 kids!) but I couldn’t be prouder of everything I create, the regular orders I receive from my wonderful customers, and the smiles my items bring.

Thank you for all your continued support; you are all awesome! 🙏

💥 THANK YOU, LOWRY MUSEUM 💥

Today we visited the fabulous museum in Manchester, where a selection of my animal costumes are being incorporated in to their wonderful Julia Donaldson and 30 year celebration exhibition.

It was such a delight to see my costumes being enjoyed by so many children. The exhibition continues until January so, if you are local to the area, please do take a visit there - you won’t be disappointed…

🏝️ BEACH VIBES 🏝️

Well, hello there! I hope the Summer is treating you well. Sorry to have been a bit absent on the socials this year; I’ll be honest in saying that they weren’t bringing me much joy, so I have stepped away from them rather. However, I am pleased to say that both myself and Robin’s Bobbins are keeping really well.

We have just returned from a fabulous time in the Algarve, Portugal. If you haven’t been, this region of Portugal - with its endless sunshine, plethora of unspoilt beaches, and cooling sea breeze - is such a gem. We were staying just a few minutes walk from several beaches so, each morning, I treated myself to a mindful walk along the seafront, soaking in the sea air, lapping waves and white sand 🏝️ 🌊 ☀️.

Whilst having the beach all to myself, I couldn’t resist a spot of product photography! Shown here are some new products I have been working on, and wearing throughout my Summer: polymer clay disc bead bracelets, necklaces and anklets. They scream BEACH VIBES, and I just love both making AND wearing them. Available in a range of colour ways, sizes (for both children and adults - of course!), I hope to add them to my Etsy store (and website and NOTHS when they reopen at the end of the holidays) in the next day or so.

🧡 10,000 - SO CLOSE 🧡 I’ve just looked on my Etsy store and have seen that I am only 10 sales off 10,000. It’s taken a long while to make last few hundred (cost of living crisis having a MAJOR impact on my sales) so I am simply itching to reach this amazing milestone.

💥 MARKETS ALIVE 💥 I had a great day at a local fair today. It was in honour of 38 cyclists (all parents and teachers from my sons’ school) cycling either 50/75 miles … in this heat?! I know! 🥵 🚴‍♀️ 💨.

✨ SPREADING SOME MAGIC ✨ …Continuing on with Mission “Create things to sell at Christmas markets”, I’ve added even more magic to my star wands. These ones have cute little gold stars attached to the ribbons - bringing even more magic to the forthcoming season. I’d love to know what you think of them…

CREATIVITY IS FLOWING… Do you remember I mentioned that I’m taking part in a couple of Christmas shopping events next month? With most of my products being made to order, I’ve beed E to think carefully about what I’ll actually be selling, and that’s lead to me creating some new products. I get such a buzz out of creating new products, so just had to share them with you here. First up, is my Christmas sparkle headband. I’ll be offering them in gold or silver, with a range of glitter and vegan leather stars to create a variety of materials. They have a Velcro fastening, making them adjustable for both child and adult head sizes. They’re finished off with a metallic ribbon headband, offering the perfect seasonal decadence, which really does stay put comfortably on the head as I’m modelling here. What do you think? The Beginning of Robin's Bobbins

4 years ago, my 2 (now 7) year old son, Robin asked me to make him a superhero cape. Rather than buying one I tried my hand at creating my own; Robin was soon running around (saving his little world!) in a red superhero cape with a black R on the back. A few weeks later he asked me to make him a dinosaur cape (like every little boy, he was dinosaur mad!). I was stumped at first but, after a bit of trial and error, I created a green dinosaur cape with multi-coloured spines. Robin grew to have quite a cape collection (including a magician's and even a Christmas tree!) which he still wears everywhere and, judging by the smiles on passers by, they are very popular! I enjoyed creating gifts for my friends and their children and, once I started to run out of occasions to sew for, I tried my hand at selling my items. And that is how Robin's Bobbins was born! I get so much pleasure out of creating my items; knowing that each gift is bespoke, for a special someone, is so fulfilling.
