The Hitchin School of Dance (formerly The Granville School of Dance) was founded by the original Principal, Mollie Gilbert. We shall be celebrating 70 years of providing dance classes in Hitchin in 2024! We are proud to be Hitchin’s longest established dance school. Lorrayne Spindler took over as Principal in January 2009 after Mollie’s retirement, and now the school has been passed on to Gabriell

e Hammond, a former student of both Mollie and Lorrayne. We hold classes in ISTD Ballet, Tap, Modern as well as Lyrical/Contemporary, Jazz, Street & Technique, and our adult classes in Ballet & Tap. We train students for exams as well as doing our bi-annual show and we've had many students go on to pursue careers in dance. You will have a very warm welcome and Hitchin School of Dance.

PLATINUM - 22nd & 23rd March

We are celebrating 70 years as a dance school in 2024 and what better way to celebrate than a show!

Our ballerina’s will be telling the story of Alice’s adventures in Wonderland and our tap, modern, jazz, lyrical and street students are showing off their moves in the second act.

Our original Principal Mollie Gilbert started “The Granville School of Dance” 70 years ago and we’ve been teaching dance in Hitchin ever since. We are very proud to be Hitchin’s longest established dance school.

Hi everyone, here is a quick 5 minute workout for you to do at home. Put your music on nice and loud and it’ll go by quickly! 30 seconds of each exercise with 10 seconds rest in between. 1. Plank 2. Shoulder taps 3. Reverse crunches 4. Lunge with twist 5. Lunge with kick 6. Standing twist crunches 7. Squats 8. Plie in 2nd 9. Wood chopper 10. High knees Comment 💪🏻 if you’ve done it! Dear Parents and Students, Because of the recommendation of the government, we are having to close our dancing doors. We are so sad that we shan’t be seeing your glorious glissades, your terrific time steps or your perfect pirouettes until further notice. To keep you up and dancing, we will be posting on Instagram (@hitchinschoolofdance) and Facebook short videos of warm ups, stretches, tap moves to learn etc so please ‘like’ and ‘follow’. The Hitchin School of Dance (formerly The Granville School of Dance) was founded by our original Principal of the school, Mollie Gilbert, over 60 years ago. We are proud to be Hitchin’s longest established dance school.

Lorrayne Spindler took over as Principal in January 2009 after Mollie’s retirement, and now the school has been passed on to Gabrielle Hammond, a former student of both Mollie and Lorrayne. We have built a wonderful reputation over the years, for providing a high standard of training in a friendly and happy environment. The school continues to go from strength to strength.
