No Roses but Ae Fond Kiss ............... a Burn’s song about love written in 1791 - it felt slightly remiss to not send one at least ........

Fare thee weel, thou first and fairest!
Fare thee weel, thou best and dearest!
Thine be ilka joy and treasure,
Peace. enjoyment, love, and pleasure!
Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;
Ae fareweel, alas, forever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I’ll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I’ll wage thee!”......... and if you would like to order a beautiful bouquet of British red tulips for your love, we’re taking pre orders by the end of this week - for pick up only ........

Primula wreaths, Imbolc, and new year priorities and possibilities …......... we’re going back to our roots, our Celtic ones, he the Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 one, and me, well, the land of my fathers is always calling 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 ….
….. already the page is turned on the biodynamic calendar - the wolf 🐺 moon is waning and next is Imbolc- the old Celtic seasonal tradition of marking the start of spring….
….. always reinventing our purpose, fiercely focusing on what matters most for us - 100% British 🇬🇧 grown everything always - and for the land we are custodians of, the year is already moving around in its ever circling direction, just like a wreath…….

Everlasting wreaths, ever useful quotes and the ever amazing wolf Moon .......... as you know we’re a British flower business - no ifs. no buts or maybes - so for January, we’re celebrating the beautiful winter moment of the wolf moon with our dried floral wreaths ............... one is pale for the moon, and the other is to celebrate the sun, who I am, as ever, optimistic of seeing a bit more of this summer ........ and the quote, an absolute favourite of mine “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity” Amelia Earhart.

A Kings Ransom, disappearing Narnia and even faster disappearing dahlias .......... there’s no gardening in my canalside cutting garden in this quiet January. Still winter, still sleepy, the weather has me still seeking slumber and stillness. I thought I’d share views of our pale ice cold skies that have felt like walking in Narnia. Narnia is disappearing though so for this weeks newsletter - yes, mailchimp is becoming my nemesis - I thought I’d share the fabulous fairness of
King’s Ransom is a sweet pea variety that has clearly reached cult status and there appears to be a gathering shortage. 1 packet per customer the last time I looked, and many other seed suppliers have sold out entirely. I confess to not having even grown this super star pea. Do tell me it’s worth it
My search has been directed to the varieties of Dr Keith Hammett, usually only available in New Zealand but now available in the UK. I always grow “High Scent”, or Miss Piggy as it is also known. Too beautifully scented not to. I confess half the time I buy the seeds for their names. So you’ll see the influence when I tell you I now have Enchante and chocolate flake to accompany the ransom paid for the King........ so while the sweet pea seed hunting has been progressing well, purchasing dahlias has been a disaster. I returned to my basket from a well know retailer to find it emptied completely and everything sold that I had once put in there. Clearly another run I thought although in this instance I wonder if it’s the universe guiding me to grow something else. There’s minimal pollen on many varieties and I was thinking of totally tangerine and waltzing matlida to ease my conscience on that. I’d be interested in your view on the support dahlias give to our wildlife - besides the earwigs that is!.... night night for now. Will my Floral cuttings news letter make it to mailchimp? Only another week to wait to find out :)
