Acid Box Brighton Est. 2013
We showcase artists we love from all over the world to perform in Brighton. With a love for distortion and reverberation
we promote the music we love, mostly inspired by
styles & sub genres of alternative rock n roll
but predominantly a variety of garage surf-punk,
psychedelia and fuzz as well as forays into electronic and

world music. [email protected]

After having enough gear to make his own recordings out of his basement, Pachy began recording music to pay homage to the early reggae pioneers he grew up listening to. He named the studio “333 House” and started learning techniques used by the engineers responsible for shaping the sound of early dub reggae, particularly Scientist and King Tubby. The recording process of the music was documented on his Instagram account with videos that showed him playing every instrument and ultimately mixing the end result in one live dub take.

20:15-20:45 - School Disco
21:15-22:00 - population II

Population II is a band dedicated to its disengagement, constantly working on refining their imposing, yet unpretentious sound. A trio consisting of singer/drummer Pierre-Luc Gratton, guitarist/keyboardist Tristan Lacombe and bassist Sébastien Provençal, Population II are masters at both improvised madness and sophisticated composition, delivering heavy psychedelic rock infused with feverish funk rhythms, a hint of jazz philosophy, a burst of energy reminiscent of punk's early days, and a love of minor scales that harkens back to the roots of heavy metal. The band's uniqueness is reinforced by Pierre-Luc's unique voice and his introspective, nostalgic and offbeat lyrics.

ft Rishi Dhir, known for his work with Elephant Stone and Alex Mass of The Black Angels

In a landscape where the term 'psych' often feels confined and predictable, MIEN stands out as a beacon of true psychedelic exploration, redefining the boundaries of the genre with their innovative soundscapes and bold experimentation.

Rishi met John Mark Lapham of The Earlies, whose electronic and production expertise would become a cornerstone of MIEN's sound. Robb Kidd (Alex Maas, Golden Dawn Arkestra) joined the band on drums in 2018. These connections eventually led to the formation of MIEN, a band that seamlessly blends their varied musical backgrounds into a unique sonic tapestry.

"Apocalyptic psych rock." Pitchfork

"MIEN is the line-up of your dreams" Clash

After trying to reschedule this show several times during the pandemic, we finally have Bananagun gracing the coast!
“Australia’s answer to The Go! Team tap into utopian 60s psych and spiritual jazz” Uncut

“Listening to Bananagun means knowing that their music is ever evolving, in a constant state of flow” Shindig!

Departing from the ultra-slick bursts of sunshine pop and afrobeat that defined their 2020 debut The True Story of Bananagun, the Australian five-piece return to muddy the waters with a heavy blend of incendiary jazz and freak-beat experimentation. It’s Bananagun alright, but braver, bolder and more mysterious than ever.

Co-founded by Detroit natives Rahill Jamalifard and Lenny Lynch, Habibi got its start in Brooklyn in 2011, earning early raves everywhere from Pitchfork and NME to All Things Considered and The New Yorker, who praised the band for infusing “the Colgate-white glisten of sixties-girl-group pop with an uncensored edge.”

Dreamachine, Habibi’s mesmerizing new record releasing on Kill Rock Stars, marks a major sonic evolution for the band, rising beyond the critically acclaimed five-piece’s garage rock roots to arrive at a singular swirl of analog and digital elements that underpin their search for spiritual and physical transcendence.

"On The Road" by Habibi, taken from their forthcoming record, Dreamachine. Out now via Kill Rock Stars.Buy the album: https://pocp.co/dreamachine.oydShot by:...

NEW SHOW

Charles Moothart and the Fast Band play The Hope & Ruin on Friday 28th March.
Tickets - https://link.dice.fm/wa7773ba3d65

Los Angeles based musician Charles Moothart (Fuzz, Goggs, Freedom Band) released previous solo work under the moniker CFM. Now working under his full name, as change is the only universal truth, Moothart's latest album Black Holes Don't Choke (out now on In The Red) is made up of "love songs for the apocalypse." It is his most self-assured solo release to date. Heavy riffs alternating with spacious tunes, and a live set that vacillates from fast and loose to groovy and heady. Moothart is now touring with a live band comprised of 4 veterans of the Los Angeles music scene with too many credentials to list. This lineup brings a new sense of dynamic while holding on to grit and drive. All of these factors crack open a new chapter for the Californian multi-instrumentalist.
