I’ve just realised it’s the last Sunday in November, which for many years up to last year was always the date of the Country House Christmas Fair at Judges Hotel 🎄Despite being on a different path now, I would have continued with just this one fair because there was so much love for it, but our gorgeous venue was bought and closed earlier this year. I have so many happy memories of all the fairs over the years (a few stressful one too!) and miss seeing so many of you. I loved all our crazy event days. But this weekend just happens to coincide with a feature on me being published in the Darlington & Stockton Times which I think shows you how much I also love what I do now, and why I chose to move on. Those of you who know me have all said it’s the perfect job for me, and I agree! I’m still asked if I’ll start Heartisan Events up again, and the answer is - not in the foreseeable future. But please do follow because we have loads of fab things going on all year round. And make sure you keep up to date with - my super awesome pal Helen has established an amazing makers market which is going from strength to strength with her talent and hard work 💕

Just popping in briefly to let you know about this awesome event on Saturday Helen has brought together a bunch of excellent makers, in a pretty village venue, with a tea room full of delicious cakes… what more could you ask?! I will be helping in the tea room but very much hoping I get chance to pop out and get some Christmas shopping done. Hope to see you there!

A message from Jenny’s family….

I just wanted to share details for mum’s funeral as I know some of you wish to come and you are very welcome to. Mum touched so many lives and we know she will be missed by many.

• Tuesday 22nd August, 11am at Kirkleatham Memorial Park & Crematorium, Fishpond Road, TS11 8HH

• Mum loved colour and florals so please don’t wear black, just come as yourselves and be comfortable.

• Instead of flowers, mum would prefer donations to a chosen charity which we will confirm shortly, it would be lovely to help her with a final act of kindness as we say goodbye.

Thank you so much for all your kind messages and comments, it’s been heartbreaking but wonderful to read them. She really was so so loved and your words have been helping us through this extremely painful time. ♥️

Love to you all, Helen, Claire & Dave ###

A couple of days ago we lost someone very dear. Jenny, who many of you know as for her amazing makes like her famous swans, very suddenly passed away.
Jenny, along with husband Dave, have been stalwarts at Heartisan Events for many years. The most exquisite seamstress, her stall was always one full of beautiful and unique things. You could tell it was her stall from a mile off such was her recognisable style. But much more importantly, she was a warm and friendly presence, making newcomers feel welcome and enjoying chatting with her customers and fellow stallholders. Jenny was a great supporter of my business from the beginning, and a great friend. I had the privilege of spending time with her outside of events too, and she treated me as part of her wonderful family. An honour I will always treasure. I will hold dear the chats we had over tea and cake. Her kindness, her generosity of spirit, and her cheeky sense of humour are just a few of her many qualities I will miss.
My heart is with her family who are my dear friends - husband Dave, daughters Helen and Claire, son in law Andrew, and her furry family too, who are going through a heartbreaking shock and loss. Please join me in sending them all our love 💕

Thank you all so much for your very kind comments and messages following my post yesterday. I appreciate every one of them.

I know we’ll all miss our joyful events, and Judges, but I’m thrilled that my lovely friend Helen is organising some special seasonal fairs just up the road at Worsall. Check out Froggy Goes To Market for all the details.

I have no doubt that Helen and her super family will be putting on absolutely brilliant events. Some of you may remember that they used to do so some time ago before moving away for a while, so they have lots of experience and knowledge. Plus they’re stall holders themselves too so have an all round understanding of every aspect of events and how much work goes into them. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending these new fairs to traders and customers alike, and as you probably know I’m a very particular (some might say fussy) so-and-so with a large dose of perfectionism, so I don’t make recommendations lightly! Please give your support to this new venture, you won’t regret it!

Hello everyone. As you may have noticed, I’ve been absent from social media since just after our Christmas fair. A combination of reasons - one being that my old phone died and I was baffled by my new one for a while! 🤣 The main reason though is that I’ve been very ill since December. I rather suddenly started suffering from anxiety and panic attacks, which led to a bout of severe clinical depression. I am very much over the worst of it now, and am delighted to have just started back at my job which I love. I’m feeling so much better and am incredibly lucky to have had the support of amazing family and friends, without whom I may not have been here to tell the tale. I have always been very open about my mental health, because I believe we must be in order to continue to break down myths and stigma, so while this may be ‘too much information’ for some, if it makes one person feel less alone in their struggle then it’s worth those who don’t understand feeling uncomfortable about it.

I decided some weeks ago that I wouldn’t be organising the spring fair at Judges this year, and had emailed our traders to let them know. Since then, our gorgeous venue Judges Hotel at Kirklevington Hall has been sold and permanently closed last week. It’s very sad for everyone, especially for the lovely staff who have always made our events there such a pleasure. I’d particularly like to thank Suzanne and Paul, who made my job immensely easier. We were always made so very welcome. I’ll really miss working with you, and we’ll all miss our much loved Country House Fairs.

I’d also like to thank all the wonderful traders who I’ve been privileged to work with over the many years of Heartisan Events. You’ve made events a pleasure, and I’m so lucky to now count many of you as friends as well as colleagues. The events which we’ve all loved wouldn’t have been the same without you.

And of course thank you to all our loyal customers who’ve always supported us, turned out in droves, helped raise thousands of pounds for charities, and kept our small local businesses going.

This isn’t a final farewell, just a bye for now ❤️

Always popular with our customers at Judges, Karen makes fruit preserves, marmalades, jellies, fruit pastes, cordials and chutneys. Most fruit and veg is home grown, foraged or donated, and ‘sad fruit' that would otherwise go to waste is also used up. Sold individually, as multi-buys or in gift packs, and why not add a lovely vintage jam pot. All profits go to charity.

Most importantly, they’re all made with love.”

The story of Heartisan Events

Hello, I’m Sarah, the founder of Heartisan Events. I organised my first event in 2014 after becoming jaded with the epidemic of poor quality local craft and vintage fairs. I knew there was so much talent and originality here in ‘the north’ but there just didn’t seem to be the right platform to make this accessible to the wider public, so I set out to create an event I would want to both trade at as a small business and visit for a lovely day out. I had lots of organisational experience from my previous profession, and experience as a stall holder from my own little ‘kitchen table’ enterprise, so why not? My first event - a Christmas fair - was almost overwhelmingly successful, but I was heartened that I had hit the right note for traders and visitors alike.

As my confidence and belief grew following consistently good feedback, my events evolved along with my experience. Moving from small community centres and church halls I set my sights on venues that would add another aspect to the enjoyment of the event. In 2016 I reached that goal, having the pleasure of organising ‘A Country House Christmas Fair’ at Judges Hotel at Kirklevington Hall - one of the best country house hotels in the UK. 2018 will be the third year of this event, and we have added ‘A Country House Spring Fair’ to the program this year for an extra opportunity to showcase some of the most talented artisans and independent business people of our region.

Also in 2016 I found two other venues I fell in love with - Kirkleatham Hall and Masham Town Hall - and felt would be perfect for a different type of event I had been longing to try. Inspired by the French brocante markets and my own love of this particular style it was once again my aim to create an event that was a change from what we were used to, not only in terms of quality but also style and content. In 2017 I launched the Home & Lifestyle Brocante at both of these venues, despite being told that ‘Yorkshire people won’t understand brocante’ and locals just wouldn’t ‘get it’. I strongly felt that was not the case, and if these types of events could work in other areas of the country then they could absolutely work here too. Thankfully I was proved right! I am happy to say that this year the brocante events are going from strength the strength, and are gaining a loyal following of fantastic customers who know they will find amazing and unusual goods with something suitable for every budget.

As much as certain aspects of Heartisan Events have evolved over the years, the authentic values at the core have not changed at all. As ever, these events are all about exceptional quality, supporting the local community and economy, and providing the best possible enjoyable experience for everyone involved. I am overjoyed to regularly hear event visitors talk about the quality, originality and variety of products, the professionalism and friendliness of traders, the style of the venues, and the overall great atmosphere of the events. This is the exactly what I’d hoped to achieve, and what I will continue to strive for every time.
