I’m changing what I do (slightly) and I’ve been doing it over at .
When I started it was with a scrap wood bar, expensive van rentals and a lot of pulling in favours from a team of reliable friends that helped me serve drinks to the masses all the way until 2019; where I finally quit my job and went full time. The Little Wooden Bar had made it and things were going well.
Then we all know what happened. Parties got cancelled, weddings postponed and I had to twiddle my thumbs and come up with a plan for when things reopened and got back on track but the core team had moved on.
Things weren’t the same coming back. The bread and butter of my work was cash bars at weddings and these had become a risk. Most guests would now arrive with their own supply of drinks from the supermarket. People didn’t have the disposable income to ‘risk’ walking up to a wedding bar that could turn out to be expensive. I always kept my prices low (to many a delighted comment) but beers are simply cheaper at supermarkets than they are from a small business.
I didn’t want to become another company forced to charge huge deposits and put their prices way up. I had to figure out another way.
So I focused on small parties and providing something you really can’t buy in a supermarket. I started making cocktails in people’s kitchens, back gardens, living rooms. Celebrating with more and more people at home; with closer, smaller, circles of friends. They provided the booze and I made the drinks. Honestly, it’s been great!
The thing is, it didn’t feel like anymore, it felt like something new. So I started fresh and that’s why you can find me over .
