Fun night at The Red Shed last night! Starters for ten had a 70s/80s New Wave vibe, and I was genuinely surprised someone guessed not just the B-52s were involved in that (Song For A Future Generation), but spotted The Freshies (I’m In Love With The Girl On The Manchester Virgin Megastore Checkout Desk) in the mix as well. An hour of Northern Soul a bit later, plus the usual chaos of the final half hour of requests!

THIS FRIDAY at The Red Shed - it's always a great night, and this time I'm going to be hitting the Northern Soul hard, there'll be a stash of rock, and we'll add some ska, two-tone and Motown into that mix as well! Plus whatever's requested because if it's in the boxes, it can go on the decks!

A proper classic retro mobile disco served up on 7" vinyl, with authentic lights and a top vibe - and the dancefloor is open!

Something for your diary 🏳️‍🌈 Last year I had the pleasure of co-hosting a Pride Disco at The Polka Hop on Wakefield Pride Day, and I'm very pleased to say I'll be doing it again this year! Expect joyful noises, disco, 80s classics, party cheese 🧀 you can dance to, and even some Eurovision 🎉 I'll be spinning out the tunes from 4pm thru to 10pm, and there'll be competitions too (and maybe, just maybe even a special mug design!) 💃🏼🪩🕺🏻

My travels take me to quite a lot of record shops on the hunt for decent tunes, but there ain't no place quite like Rob's shop Rubber Soul Records in Hanley (Stoke) - this is about a fifth of it and it brings new meaning to the term "crate digging"!

I've always come away with some absolute quality bangers to play, no exception this time and I'll be spinning some of them tonight at Mrs R's Retro Roadshow at The Polka Hop in Wakefield from 7pm 💃🏼🪩🕺🏻

Thanks to everyone who came along to The Red Shed last night for a boogie! Lots of new faces, and lovely to see the regulars too! We sauntered around the 80s, jumped head-first into 70s rock, had a brief sashay around the 90s and ended the night (as we always do) with New York New York 🎶 Think I managed to get almost everyone's requests in but if not, come along again and we'll have another go!

I'm still looking for another Wakefield venue to put on a regular night, so if you run a pub or club and fancy it then get in touch!

TODAY: I'm back at The Polka Hop this afternoon for a gentle(ish) saunter through some excellent discs from my own boxes, alongside whatever other folk decide to bring along! These are always lovely chilled afternoons - no DJ skills needed, no pressure, no egos, and no shaming (well, unless it skips!).

Bring some of your own 7" records and we'll pop 'em on. Might even allow the occasional 12" or album track if you promise to bring me another mug of Earl Grey and a biscuit... ;)

✨ THIS FRIDAY 3 MAY ✨

I'm back at The Polka Hop for a rollercoaster evening of bangers and bops from the 60s thru to the 90s, all played from 7" vinyl with a dancefloor you can totally get down on! Expect everything from rock, pop and indie to ska, new wave and punk (with a sashay around Northern Soul and Motown of course!). I've picked up some blisteringly good discs which I'll enjoy spinning out, and there will of course be a couple of spot competitions!

Starts 7pm, goes on to 11pm, 18+, proper beer. See you on the dancefloor!

(It's a few days off my birthday too so expect some 90s indie bangers cos that was my scene back in my Uni years!)
