Gratitude… what a powerful mystery. I don’t know what is tied to it, but one thing I know for sure is that it works like pure magic.

Today, my son returned from school and asked if he could have a word with me. I didn’t think much of it until he looked at me and said, “Mummy, I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything.”

Then he began to list them one by one:
“For paying our school fees, for making sure we eat, for meeting our needs… Mummy, I am truly grateful. May God bless you so much. I promise to keep working hard so you can always be proud of me.”

At that moment, tears filled my eyes. Hearing those words from my child melted me completely. I reminded him that I am proud of him always any day, any time.

And just when my heart was in its softest, most emotional state, my boy dropped his request 🤣🤣🤣. Of course, I had no choice but to answer immediately! My bank account was crying, but I still did it with joy by all means possible.

Because truly, it is God who has been helping me every step of the way.

Today, it is my turn to return all the glory to God. He did it all.

I read this post from Cakehome that didn’t just touch me… it held my heart and squeezed it a little.

Here is what people don’t understand about distant parenting:

It’s not just about the distance… it’s about the quiet ache that follows you everywhere.
You learn to live with a heart that is always half here, half there.

You celebrate your child’s milestones through photos and voice notes…
You wipe your tears before answering a video call because you don’t want them to hear the crack in your voice…
You smile even when your chest feels like it’s breaking into pieces…
You pretend you’re “fine” because that’s what strength looks like from far away.

There are nights you hold your phone like it’s the only bridge holding your world together.
There are days you replay old memories just to feel close again.
And sometimes, the silence is the loudest thing you hear.

But the most emotional part?
You keep going.
Not because it’s easy, but because love refuses to give up.
You carry your child in every decision, every prayer, every sacrifice no one sees.

Distant parenting doesn’t weaken you
it bends you, stretches you, shapes you…
and somehow still leaves you with enough love to give.

One day, that child will understand the weight you carried alone,
and that understanding will heal places in you that life tried to break.

You are enough.
