🧊 Why do we always check fridge & freezer door seals on our routine PPM visits?

Because the perfect place for nasty bacteria to live and thrive is… broken door seals.

It’s also one of the first things an EHO inspector will check during a kitchen visit.

On this visit, our engineers identified several damaged seals and replaced them all — ensuring the kitchen stayed compliant with food hygiene standards and giving the customer peace of mind ahead of any unannounced inspection.

Small details, big impact. That’s what preventative maintenance is all about.

⏰ An early start for Team Tyrrell! 🌅

This morning our engineers were on-site at 5am supporting one of our long-standing golf course customers. By getting in early, we were able to service their equipment before the kitchen came to life, ensuring no disruption to their busy day.

A huge thank you to our team for making this possible 👏. While part of the team handled this early start, our other engineers were out on different sites, keeping up with planned and reactive work.

With a strong crew of 10 engineers, we’ve got the flexibility and resources to support all our customers — no matter the time of day.

❄️ Freezer Room Upgrade Alert! ❄️

We recently attended a site where the existing walk-in freezer was showing its age — tired, inefficient, and needing some costly repairs.

Our engineers carried out a full assessment and, in the customer’s best interest, recommended replacing the refrigeration system rather than patching up an old setup.

✅ Brand new evaporator
✅ New condensing unit
✅ All installed onto existing pipework and electrics
✅ System back up and running in just two days

Athanor suite 🔥 + new burners = 🔧💪

We were called out to a stunning Athanor cook suite this week after the chef reported weak pilot flames and poor burner performance.

Upon inspection, we found the burners were in poor condition – age, wear and overtightening over the years had left the bolts snapped off and the flames struggling.

✅ We installed brand new burners, pilot assemblies, and thermocouples
✅ Fully tested and commissioned
✅ Now firing on all cylinders and powering this busy kitchen once again

Fresh, shiny burners = happy chefs 😎

We ended the week with the return of the brilliant Carl Hutchings at Tyrrell Services HQ, delivering three full days of intensive electrical safety and isolation training for four of our engineers.

Yes - taking engineers off the road has an impact on the bottom line.

Finishing the week strong with a fault caught just in time 👨‍🔧🔥

Our team attended site for a routine Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) visit — and it paid off.

During the checks, we identified a fault on a gas Rational unit:
🔍 The steam generator hose was old, brittle, and severely corroded
💥 Both jubilee clips had split in half

Thankfully, it was spotted just in time — preventing a potentially bigger fault and costly downtime. This is exactly why PPM matters.

✅ Fault found
✅ Issue resolved
✅ Equipment protected

Yesterday, our management team came together for a focused strategy day, joined by our business coach, Sanjiv.

The session provided a valuable opportunity to review our Q1 performance — celebrating the goals achieved and milestones reached — while also identifying key areas for improvement.

With Sanjiv’s support, we worked through a structured and high-impact agenda to ensure the entire team is aligned and prepared to deliver on our Q2 objectives.

These appliances can be dangerous if handled incorrectly, so giving our engineers the right knowledge and confidence is absolutely vital. 👨‍🔧✅

It might look like a small job — but it’s a big deal for safety ⚠️🔌

On this refrigeration job, we fitted a local isolator where there previously wasn’t one in place.

It might seem minor, but without proper isolation, engineers working on live equipment are at serious risk of electrocution. With this isolator now installed, our team can:

✅ Safely isolate the system
🔒 Lock off the power
⚡ Be 100% certain the unit is dead before starting work

Health and safety isn’t just about compliance — it’s about protecting the people doing the job. And that always comes first. 👷‍♂️🛠️

Not your everyday call-out… but we love a challenge 🔥🍛

Called to site for a tandoor oven that wasn’t heating evenly.
A bit different from your usual catering kit — but the principles are the same!

🔍 Found the burner venturi heavily blocked with soot and debris
🔥 Poor flame + incomplete combustion = uneven heat

We gave it a full clean-out, reassembled and tested it thoroughly — and now it’s back to perfect high heat, ready to serve up those Indian delights! 👨‍🍳🇮🇳

(And yes… we did clean up the mess after 😉)
