Would you believe it? Recently Worthing Green Taxis was invloved in a court case it rasied against a consultancy firm. The case was heard in the local Worthing court.

After 3 or 4 hours of chatting back and forth, I though we had won our case. Sadly we did not.

However, the magistrate beckoned me to hold on for a minute to have a quick word. He satted he had to follow the law bit stated he thought the idea of electric and hybrid taxis was awesome.

So not only do we have cross party support and that of local businesses the local justiciary reckons it is good for the area.

Here is a question for you all but mainly taxi drivers. Can/how do i get finance for an electric vehicle? You may have a poor credit history and many lenders are not keen on self employed.

Stay with me on this.

1st the assumptions for Electric Private Hire vehicles in the local area. Lets assume that 150 drivers want to drive an eco forendly vehicle - we know that customers want to use them. We had 40,000 visits to the website (we have proof). Next assumption is the cost of a vehicle. The average price of an eletcric vehicle is £47,000. Therefore someone would have to lend £7,050,00.00 to the private hire industry in Worthing. Is this likely?

The question is: how much cash is needed to create a financial solution assuming we got together and created our own finance company? Not a trick question it can be done.

Before you answer there are 10 important points to take into consideration.

1. Do you know anyone with 40 years in car finance companies
2. Is there anyone with specialised car funding experience including taxi finance
3. Who knows about Assest Backed Securities
4. Any specialised credit and risk people
5. Can a dealer offer fleet discount
6. Would the monthly payment be affordable and make business sense
7. Who understands debt recovery and the laws relating to it
8. What would be the deposit amount required on a new vehicle
9. Who decides who is awarded a vehicle loan
10. Is this a 2nd mortgage (the answer to this is no)

🔵 ANGER OVER "UNFAIR" LEEDS TAXI NO-GO AREAS WHICH CAUSE POLLUTION AND FORCE DRIVERS ONTO LONG DETOUR

Leeds City Council has been urged to relax rules around so-called “no-go zones” in the city centre for taxis. Private hire vehicles are banned from using or picking up passengers on a number of roads before 10pm.

The zones have been phased in by the council over the last couple of years to ease traffic, as only buses and hackney carriages are allowed to use them 24 hours a day. But Labour councillor for Harehills, Arif Hussain, said he wanted the restrictions scaled back to a cut-off time of 6pm.

LeedsLive reports that a senior council officer said he was willing to look at reaching a compromise. Councillor Hussain, a former taxi driver himself, told a scrutiny meeting on Wednesday: “Private hire vehicles are providing a public service to local residents after the bus services have stopped.

“But they don’t have the right to go through certain places before 10pm. I don’t understand why. Customers are complaining because their driver has to go round. That’s one issue.

“From my own experience and knowledge, they should be allowed to go through these places after 5pm or 6pm, because peak times finish after that.” Speaking after the meeting, the chair of the Leeds Private Hire Drivers Organisation (LPHDO), Ahmad Hussain backed those calls.

He said: “It’s not fair for us and it’s not fair for passengers. It creates more pollution. We’re stopping and starting more and we’re right in amongst the traffic. The point of the council’s clean air zone was to cut traffic. The quicker we’re out of the centre the better.”

“I don’t go into the city centre before 10pm because it’s not worth it. Many drivers are saying the same.” Drivers who do pick up passengers in the zones are subject to fines.

But speaking at the meeting, the council’s chief officer for highways, Gary Bartlett, suggested the authority could alter the policy if a consultation showed widespread support. He told Councillor Hussain: “Those restrictions can always be looked at. They’re imposed by a traffic regulation order (TRO) and they’re subject to statutory consultation.

“If there is feedback around, ‘Can it be relaxed to 8pm or 9pm?’, that’s something that could be considered.” However, Mr Bartlett appeared to rule out changes to a new city centre bus gate, which bans most traffic from accessing Wellington Street from Bishopgate Street.

The two roads meet just outside Leeds Rail Station. Buses and hackney carriages can pass through, but not private cars or private hire vehicles.

Councillor Hussain said this was unfair, a view also later backed by LPHDO. But Mr Bartlett said: “Because private hire vehicles look more like cars and if they are turning left through the bus gate I think it encourages other private vehicles to follow.

“That’s an experience other highways authorities have had elsewhere. Drivers don’t quickly differentiate between a private hire vehicles and a normal car.” The council recently announced it was cracking down on all drivers who unlawfully the use bus gate, with enforcement cameras having been put up.

It is just over a year since we launched. In that time we have had the support of MPs, cross party councillors, taxi users and local businesses. Our website and GMB page recieved 4,000 visitors in one month.

So what do we not have. Drivers.

We have offered them great benefits. But they stick with carbon based fuels. Which we all know have increased dramatically. In addition, some of the bigger players in the market have increased their dues.

Drivers are leaving the industry in droves as their profit margins diminish drastically.

The law is changing and in a relatively short time there will be carbon penalties and restrictions.

As Worthing's 1st carbon neutral private hire firm - we shall wait.

As for taxi users - ask for low carbon vehicles. A trickle of requests will make a change.
