How did I become a wedding celebrant? 🎊

Well, as the old saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens! I was doing a job I adored: dog grooming! Until unfortunately, I hurt my back and found myself struggling to manage the gorgeous pups I had as clients - especially some of the big ones! 🐶

So I thought long and hard about what else I loved - working with lots of different people, reading and writing beautiful stories, and most importantly, love itself. As a celebrant, I am so lucky to work with all of these elements every day - and I still fit in the odd dog grooming session to get my adorable doggy fix!

Happy St Dwynwen’s Day, also known as Wales’ Valentine’s Day

Saint Dwynwen might be the Welsh patron saint of love, but her own love story was anything but smooth.

The legend goes that Dwynwen, one of 36 daughters of an Irish king, fell deeply in love with Maelon Dyfodrull, a lad from north Wales. Unfortunately, her father, King Brychan, wasn’t impressed and refused to let them marry. Heartbroken, things took a dark turn when Maelon, angry at the rejection, lashed out at her.

In her despair, Dwynwen prayed for help, and her prayers were answered in a rather dramatic fashion. Maelon was turned to ice, and Dwynwen was granted three wishes. She wished to be free from him, to never marry, and to dedicate her life to helping others struggling in love. She then retreated to a quiet life in a convent on the beautiful Llanddwyn Island in Anglesey.

Folklore tells us her church became a sanctuary for lovers, complete with a sacred fish that could predict the future of relationships. Even today, people visit the scenic ruins of Llanddwyn church and celebrate Saint Dwynwen’s Day by sharing love spoons – a beautiful tradition that’s been around since the 17th century.

Her story might be bittersweet, but Dwynwen’s legacy lives on as a symbol of compassion and hope for anyone navigating the complexities of love.

This is officially the scariest thing I've ever done! 😬 I am currently in training for an expedition to Poland, where we will be climbing the highest mountain in Poland in our shorts & T shirts, assisted with our amazing trainers Ice Warrior My training has started in earnest with walks up Moel Famau, as well as daily walking, I have been getting my kit ready - lots of things I never thought I would need, such as Ice Cleats (crampons) and the Whatsapp group chat is becoming increasingly busy with excited (and a bit nervous) chatter! ⛰️ #onceinalifetime #hiking #mountainclimbing #newexperiences #brave #scared #adventure
