Things have started getting back to normal but have changed for us. We are no longer at Pelicans Café but continuing to do our outside catering business and of course we can be found at Fillers Sandwich Bar. Thank you for all your support - we will really miss our customers

We were supposed to be hosting a quiz today at Pelicans At Kings but it was cancelled unfortunately. Fiona from Little Mama's Bakery - Guernsey popped up with some lovely cakes as a raffle prize. She very kindly said we could eat them (which was very tempting!) but we decided to make a platter of sandwiches too and we would like to donate them to someone who will appreciate an afternoon tea.
Please nominate deserving people below. There are 12 cakes and a platter of sandwiches for 12 people so please nominate so that there will not be too little to go around or too much wasted. We will randomly pick a comment later this evening and deliver to the lucky recipient. If you have liked our pages and shared this post there will be a voucher for a coffee and homemade cake at Pelicans Cafe for the person whose nomination is chosen.

Pelicans cafe is based in Kings Premier Health club Guernsey but is open to non members. As well as being a cafe we offer outside catering services and are a well loved party venue at the weekends. A family friendly cafe we have comfy sofas and a play area.

Nutritional highlights
We are frequently told that colourful plant foods are good for our health because of their phytochemical properties (plant pigments) and turmeric is no different. It has a range of health promoting benefits due to curcumin, the yellow pigment. As several metabolic diseases and age-related degenerative disorders are closely associated with oxidative processes in the body, the use of herbs and spices as a source of antioxidants to combat oxidation warrants further attention.
The potential health benefits of curcumin include better regulation of inflammation. It is used in the treatment of numerous inflammatory conditions for its anti-inflammatory effects. Curcumin is thought to slow down the inflammatory pathway, although this line of research is being continued.
Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties have been compared to those of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). Clinical trials have found it to be more effective than a placebo for relieving pain and swelling in people with osteo and rheumatoid arthritis. However, more well-designed clinical studies are needed to determine and document the efficacy of curcumin and combination products in patients taking NSAIDS to treat osteoarthritis.
