Today's Devotion
Topic: Benefits of Afflictions.
Text: 2 Cor 4:17

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. Amen

Today we begin a 3 day series about suffering!

Many a times we see some believers losing faith in God and giving up on God merely because they are faced with challenges. Many even decide not to serve God anymore.

We most often than not, question why God should allow afflictions/troubles to come our way but the scripture is making us to understand that afflictions are for our own sake.

Two lessons I will like to bring to your attention are: The nature of affliction & The purpose of it. Let's begin explaining the former.

Nature of Afflictions:

First of all, scripture teaches us that afflictions are momentary / temporal meaning they are just for a short while. What you may be going through is just for a while (weeping may endure for a night… –Ps 30:5B).

The second nature of affliction is light weight. Whaaat!! Did the Bible say light? Yes it did. What you are going through is not heavy at all, it’s not something you can’t bear (1 Cor 10:13).

Meditate upon this, tomorrow we will continue with the Purpose of Affliction.

Begin to pray the for grace to understand and accept the truths that your afflictions are temporal & and light weight even if they don't feel that way.
