G.A.C.C & G.I.I PROJECTS REDUCTION IN FEMALE REPRESENTATION IN PARLIAMENT.
*CITES MONETISATION AS MAJOR FACTOR.
The Ghana Anti Corruption Coalition,a civil society organisations working to step down corruption in Ghana is projecting reduction in female representation in Ghana
According to the Executive Secretary of Ghana Anti Corruption Coalition(GACC)Beauty Emefa Nartey,the high cost involved in political campaigning in the country has risen to the point that generally females are not able to afford, compelling them to loose interest in the process.
According to studies about 1 million dollars is required to fully participate in electioneering process to become a member of Parliament;a sum that is hard for the African woman to get to offer herself as an M.P.
This according to Beauty Emefa Nartey is disturbing especially to the effect that females who hitherto could be good leaders,the huge sums required for campaigning keeps shrinking their numbers in representing their constituents with such financial demands.
Speaking at a forum organized by Ghana Anti corruption Coalition(GACC),Ghana Intergrity Initiative (GII)Centre for Democratic Governance(CDD),IFEST among others,on abuse of incumbency,Campaign financing,Vote buying and Corruption on election processes,Beauty Emefa Nartey further the two main political parties including NDC and NPP have all 20 female parliamentary candidates contesting while some of them are in a highly competitive male candidates that may end up loosing to the male counterparts due to the dynamics of the area being contested.
"Women who are qualified to lead in the governance process are being denied because they are now able to afford the high cost of political funding" she said.
She however urged political parties in Ghana to give more allocations to female candidates while reducing the high cost in funding to make the the process of fair.
