From the depths of time, the Ionian Islands (traditionally called the Heptanese, i.e. "the Seven Islands") have been a meeting point of diverse cultures, religions, ideological and artistic currents. The diversity of these influences is still “inscribed” on the very image of the islands, as much as it is inscribed on the contemporary culture of their people. At the same time, the Ionian Islands ha
ve long now been one of the key destinations of visitors to our country, with the economic and social life of almost all the Islands being organized around the touristic sector. The Centre of Ionian Civilization is an initiative that aims to creatively and innovatively combine these two main Ionian characteristics. The main thrust of the Centre's activities is the annual Corfu Festival of Arts , a broad spectrum of artistic and cultural events, which will be held every summer on the island of Corfu. Extending this multi-arts event, our vision is to organize similar cultural events throughout the year. Our intention is that the events of the Corfu Festival of Arts take place in Corfu areas that are of high interest to the island’s visitors, so that arts and culture effectively contribute to promoting the image of Corfu and the Ionian Islands in the international arena. We want to give the visitors and spectators of the festival a chance to live unique experiences, experiences and images that they can “take away” with them when leaving the island and potentially carry them to their homelands. Our aspiration is that in the years to come CorfuFestival of Arts will become an established institution to host cultural events from the entire spectrum of artistic creation. This year's Corfu Festival of Arts will be held from 8 to July 10, 2011. On this website you can find all the information about the program of performances and the participating artists. We invite and expect you all in Corfu at the 1st edition of the Corfu Festival of Arts.
