The Students Section (Hong Kong) of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Hong Kong (IET Hong Kong) is now organising a technical visit to Towngas gas production plant for all Engineering students.
The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Ltd. (Towngas) is the first public utility in Hong Kong with a long-standing history and expertise in the production and distribution of gas. As a leading gas provider, Towngas plays a vital role in catering to the energy needs of the Hong Kong population. We believe that students visiting your gas production plant and other working environments will gain valuable insights into the operations, technologies, and innovations employed in the gas industry. We hereby propose this visit as an opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge in the field of gas engineering. The technical visit will include mainly two parts, firstly an introduction with Towngas journey, towngas production process, landfill gas business and hydrogen gas separation technology and development. The second part will be Plant visit including processing unit, naphtha storage, natural gas receiving station and hydrogen trial project.

Thank you for joining us in the technical visit to HKT Network Operation Centre (NOC) on 28th July 2023! It was definitely worth exploring the system management of the telecommunications industry behind the operation of the territory-wide networks.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to various staff and speakers from the NOC for thoroughly introducing the functions and principles of Hong Kong’s telecommunications system. It was also a rare opportunity for our fellow engineering students to have a close look at HKT’s Smart Parking System and the Security Operations Centre. Are you interested in the complex railway systems that facilitate our convenient traveling in Hong Kong? Want to understand how the MTR trains perform daily maintenance?
The IET Student Section (Hong Kong) is honoured to announce a new technical visit to the MTR Kowloon Bay Depot. The MTR Kowloon Bay Depot is a crucial facility for the MTR Corporation, serving as a maintenance depot for both the East Rail Line and the Kwun Tong Line. The depot is home to a range of advanced maintenance and servicing equipment to ensure that the trains are always kept in top condition, allowing for reliable and safe travel for passengers.The technical visit covers introduction to Train Captain Driving, Mixed Reality Training and the depot to learn about rolling stock maintenance.
This technical visit is an excellent opportunity for engineering students to learn about the development of future railway systems and operations. By visiting the project location with us on 11 August 2023, let’s broaden our horizons of Hong Kong’s railway giant!

Thank you all for joining our technical visit to Central Kowloon Route (CKR) on 10 June. It was definitely a rewarding experience to learn about the secrets behind the construction of the route.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to various speakers and staff from The Central Kowloon Route – Community Liaison Centre (CKR-CLC) for demonstrating the different methods used for the construction of the route, like cut-and-cover tunnels, and introducing the web-based centralised management platform designed for the oversight and supervision of the project. Through thorough explanation and a variety of interactive games and exhibits, like the Holographic Model and the CAVE, it is for sure that our fellow engineering students can look deep into the construction and understand how such a huge project is performed. Such tour is definitely a rare opportunity for undergraduate students and it would be our honour to cooperate with CKR-CLC again in the future in an effort to broaden horizons of our fellow engineering students!

In collaboration with professionals and experienced engineers from various engineering fields in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Students Section of the Institution of Engineering and Technology are honoured to announce that the Youth Mentoring Programme (YMP) 2023 is now open for application.

Since 2011, YMP has always been the flagship function of IETSS, it has been organised annually to help build networks between hundreds of undergraduate engineering students and professionals from the industry. By joining this event, students can gain opportunities to mingle with dozens of seasoned mentors from various fields of engineering for a few months, who are eager and willing to share their knowledge, and passionate about interacting with all the future engineers.

The IET Student Section (Hong Kong) is honoured to announce a new technical visit to the Central Kowloon Route (CKR) in Kowloon, Hong Kong. The CKR is a cutting-edge highway project that is currently under construction. It will serve as an alternative express route, reducing travel time from Yau Ma Tei to Kowloon Bay by avoiding the congested Kowloon district during peak hours. The CKR project has implemented innovative structural methods, such as Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Automatic Canopy Installation System (ACIS), which are among the world's leading innovative structures supporting the busy Hong Kong traffic system.

This technical visit is an excellent opportunity for engineering students to learn about the development of future traffic systems and large-scale infrastructures. By visiting the project location with us on the 10th of June 2023, students will gain valuable insights into the world of innovative structural engineering.

Wish to hear from professionals of different regions? Want to have your horizons broadened by listening to different young engineers’ sharings? The IET Hong Kong Younger Members Section Hong Kong Students Section (HKSS) and the Macau Students Section (MoSS), supported by the University of Macau Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Alumni Association (UMECEDAA), are organising the IET Professional Gathering 2022, for all Engineering students on 27th November 2022 (Sunday).

The IET Professional Gathering has helped hundreds of students to develop professional relationships, strengthen technical knowledge and improve personal skills since its first initiation all the way back in 2014. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Mr Lai and your colleagues for arranging and hosting such event, this event would not be held successfully without your support and hospitality! We were all intrigued by the demonstrations like the huge cleaning system as well as the maintenance of chassis. Biomedical Engineering is a sophisticated and highly intriguing field of study. Although it has always been difficult to grasp its many complicated concepts, many research projects of the recent decade have been making ground-breaking discoveries. And Hong Kong researchers are no slouch in this matter either.
The IET Hong Kong CPD team is honoured to collaborate with the CUHK Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) to provide fellow engineers with the opportunity to visit three of the many research laboratories of BME. The visit will include tours to Prof. Raymond Tong’s NeuroRehabilitation and Robotics Lab; Prof. Scott Yuan’s Advanced Biophotonics Imaging Lab; and Prof. Megan Ho’s Microfluidics Innovated Bio-applications Lab.
