Dubplate adalah versi ekslusif dari sebuah lagu asli dari seorang penyanyi, yang lalu direkam ulang dengan menyebutkan nama seorang selektah (DJ Reggae) atau sound system (kumpulan dari DJ, MC, dan Engineer yang khusus memainkan musik Reggae dan genre musik lain dari Jamaika). Dubplate bisa memuat pujian bagi selektah atau sound system tersebut, atau bisa juga bernada celaan (kill chune) kepada rival mereka. Konten yang kedua biasa dipakai pada saat beradu dubplate di ajang sound clash, atau DJ battle dalam istilah hip hop.
