Dove & Butterfly Release Ceremonies 🕊🦋

The white dove is recognised as a symbol for peace, love, unity, prosperity, hope, faith and new beginnings, making it a great ceremony choice for weddings.

Doves mate for life and if separated for any reason, will not take another mate. The male & female doves build their nest together and share setting their eggs, feeding and nurturing their young.

At a Dove Release Ceremony, two white doves are released by the couple. The doves symbolise the union of the couple as they begin their journey together into married life. Additional doves may be released symbolizing good thoughts & well wishes of guests. This works particularly well for smaller, more intimate weddings.

These days, "snow white doves" are usually white homing pigeons, which are trained to return to their keepers home after release. So don't worry about these little feathered friends once released as they will always return home.

🦋 Butterflies are a lovely alternative to doves. Butterflies come in a stunning array of colours and patterns. They will flutter around your guests and make fabulous entertainment during your wedding ceremony.

Dove or Butterfly releases can create a beautiful ceremony and a unique memory that your guests will carry with them for a lifetime.

Jumping The Broom Ceremony 🌾

Jumping the Broom is as old a ritual as Celtic Handfasting. It is a ceremony enhancement that has remained popular and widely used through generations.

Jumping the Broom is a traditional Welsh ritual that couples performed if their choose to live their lives together. The couple would place a broom across the threshold of their home, take eachothers hand and literally jump into their new lives together. The union would last for one year and one day, after which time they would decide to either remain together or go their separate ways. If the latter was agreed, they would place the broom across the threshold again but this time jump outwards, literally jumping out of the marriage. The ritual was later used by African slaves in the United States, who were forbidden from marrying by ruthless slave owners. But the slaves would use this old ritual to outwit their cruel captures. After all, nobody can stop you jumping a broom!

This ritual brings a great sense of fun, drama and excitement to a wedding ceremony and will look amazing in photographs. You can buy the most beautiful handmade brooms from online stockest, which can be personalised with coloured cords or ribbons to make a unique keepsake of your wedding day.

Hand Washing Ceremony 💦

Let me just start by saying.....this ceremony has nothing to do with Covid 19 😂 Although the recent media attention on hand washing probably has us all feeling like we're performing a ritual every time we wash our hands.

The Hand Washing Ceremony is in fact a ritual seen across many cultures and religions worldwide, making it a beautiful ceremony that can be both secular or spiritual in meaning. Hand washing can be the perfect ceremony enhancement for a couple with mixed cultures or religions. It's commonality as an important ritual across so many cultures can feel comfortable to both partners.

Hand washing can express a multitude of symbloic meanings. The most popular meaning is that of cleansing the pasts of the couple, allowing them to transition into their new life together. It can purify and balance the soul and is a way to show the vulnerability of each of the partners and how they are there to care and support eachother.

A bowl or basin is filled with water and two towels are placed either side. A nice touch would be to have some flowers or lemon slices floating in the water. As one partner washes their hands, the other partner dries them. The process is repeated with both partners.

Hand Washing is a simple, thoughtful and personal enhancement to have to celebrate the beginning of a marriage.

Wine Box Ceremony 🍾🍷

This is a simple but beautiful ceremony which can be personalised in so many ways. The couple place a bottle of wine or champagne in a box with a sealed love letter to eachother. They promise not to open the box until an agreed date or anniversary, when they will enjoy the wine and read the letters. Some may even choose to create several boxes that are each opened at a milestone anniversary.

Wine Box Ceremonies not only make a beautiful ceremony enhancement on your wedding day but they ensure that you can continue to celebrate that joyful day for years to come.

Tree Planting Ceremony 🌱

Many cultures around the world have long used Tree Planting Ceremonies as a way to mark or honour a new beginning. This makes it a perfect enhancement ritual for many of life's celebrations, especially a wedding.

Tree Planting Ceremonies have become more popular with couples in recent years, with many choosing this enhancement over unity candles or sand ceremonies. This is a fun enhancement, which allows you to create a beautiful keepsake from your wedding that will grow and strengthen with your marriage. And I promise, you will not get dirty doing this! Well....unless you want to.

There's no hard and fast rules with tree planting. The ritual is not associated with any particular religion and therefore is the perfect customisable enhancement for your wedding. If you are an eco-conscious couple, tree planting is definitely the enhancement for your ceremony.

With a huge variety of tree species, the options available to couples are endless. Fruiting trees, once mature, will provide couples with tasty treats and remind them each year of the vows they made to eachother. Here are just a few examples of the different tree species and what they represent:

🌱 Oak represents life, health and family unity

🌱 Birch represents adaptability, regeneration and new beginnings

🌱 Apple represents love, truth, beauty and fertility

🌱 Pear represents longevity, good health and abundance

Many couples choose to perform this ceremony alone but it is very easy to include your family and wedding guest in the fun too. One of the easiest ways is to have small jars, bags or cones filled with soil waiting for the guests on arrival. The guests are invited to add the soil to the pot that the tree will be planted in. Guests can make a wish for the couples future as they add the soil to the pot and, once planted by the couple, the tree will grow from the blessings and well wishes of family and friends. What a great way to mark the start of a marriage!

Ring Warming Ceremony 💍

This is one of my favourite ceremony enhancements for a wedding or vow renewal. Ring Warming Cermonies are a beautiful and meaningful way to include your guests in your wedding ceremony. It allows guests to bestow their own blessings for your future onto your wedding rings. By the time the rings are exchanged and on the couples fingers, they are filled with the love and well wishes of family and friends. And it also gives your guests the opportunity to have a proper nose at your rings. 😊

So how does it work?
Well for smaller weddings, the rings can be passed from guest to guest during the ceremony and each guest makes their wishes on them. It's vital to have a "ring chaperone" who can keep tabs on the rings and ensure that they are ready to be handed to the couple for the ring exchange. Usually the best man or a groomsmen would take responsibility for this.

For larger weddings of 100+ guests, this method wouldn't work as it would take far too long for the rings to pass to everyone. In this case, you could have your rings displayed on a table at the entrance to your ceremony so that everyone can "warm" them on their arrival. This ensures that the rings are back with the best man in plenty of time for the ring exchange. With this option it would be a good idea to let your guests know about the ring warming before they arrive, so that there's no confusion or delay on the big day. An easy way of doing this is to include a small note with your wedding invitations explaining what the ring warming is and what the guest is to do.

There are so many beautiful ways that you can present your rings to your guests during a ring warming. From a soft white pillow to an engraved wooden box. You can even pass the rings along a string or cord that weaves its way through the guests to the happy couple. Whatever you decide, a ring warming is such a special way for all your guests to feel included and an important piece of your wedding day.

Celtic Handfasting 🤝

Hand Fasting is an ancient Celtic ritual to bind the marriage of two individuals. By binding or fasting the hands together, the couple are joined as one. It is from this tradition that we get the phrase "tying the knot".

Hand fastings can be as simplistic or as elaborate as you wish. A single cord with special meaning to the couple, tied by the celebrant is a beautiful enhancement to perform at an elopement or micro wedding ceremony. Multi-strand fastings, enhanced with cords from family members or friends, which symbolise their wishes for your marriage are fantastic for bigger weddings. These more elaborate fastings also work beautifully at vow renewal ceremonies as the couple can choose to include their children and grandchildren.

You can use this ritual to fit your style and personalities. It is also a lovely way to close your ceremony after your vows and ring exchange. Once the hands are fastened, the newly married couple can walk into their married life together in front of their nearest and dearest, hand in hand together in life.

The next enhancement is just as well known and as popular wity couples as the Unity Candle.
The Unity Sand Ceremony.💛

This ceremony involves the pouring of the couples individual sands into a single vessel, thus combining and uniting the sands. Once the sands are joined it is impossible to separate them.

Sand Ceremonies are a perfect enhancement for blended families, especially when children are involved. Each family member can pour their individual sand into the vessel with the couple. Children can choose sands in their favourite colours or sand from a location that is special to them. This is a beautiful way to demonstrate the joining of the two families into one and can make a special keepsake of your wedding day.

The ways that you can personalise your sand ceremony are endless. From choosing sand colours that hold special meaning for you to sand from your favourite beach holiday. You can have engraved decanters or even special ceremony frames with your wedding date on it. There are so many options to choose from you can really make this ceremony fit your own style.

Unity Candle Ceremony 🕯

The Unity Candle is one of the most popular ceremony enhancements chosen by couples. The ceremony symbolises the couples individual lives coming together in marriage.

It's a beautiful way to include family members such as parents, grandparents or siblings in your ceremony. Family members light two individual candles to represent their family. The couple then light the unity candle from the flames of their families candle.

As you don't want the flames of the candles to extinguish, it is recommended that candles be used primarily for indoor ceremonies. However, if you are having an outdoor ceremony and really want to have a unity candle, glass lanterns can be used to protect the flames.

With Irish suppliers offering beautiful personalized candle sets, the unity candle is a great way to symbolise your unity on your wedding day and will make a lovely keepsake to display in your home.
