What a brilliant day we had celebrating the wedding of Kalene & Neal who kicked off the festive period in style! This lovely couple tied the knot in Rosemount before enjoying a tipple in cosy Drakes of Castletown Geoghegan, then on to Bloomfield where guests sipped Mulled Wine, Gin Cocktails and Bubbly to the sweet songs of local talent Kathryn Nea, before enjoying a lavish banquet and dancing into the early hours with the brilliant Eden Band (the tasty late night Bacon Butties were a big hit too!) Ian Hennessy Photography was on hand to capture these brilliant shots by the lake.

Experiencing a murmuration of starlings overhead on a winter evening is a wondrous thing. This aerial phenomenon is one of the most awe-inspiring of natural wonders to occur in this part of the world, and planning a trip to Bloomfield House Hotel, Leisure Club & Spa, on the shores of Lough Ennell, Westmeath to witness this shapeshifting mass of movement is an experience not to be missed!

Say hello to King Malachy & Each Uisce! 🪵

Stroll down our forest trail and you’ll discover two unique wooden sculptures, expertly handcrafted in corsican pine by renowned local Wood Carver Richie Clarke.

As we are perched on the shores of Lough Ennell, it was only fitting to have King Malachy on our lakeside walk. He lived on Lough Ennell, near Dysart, on the island CroInis which means “Island of Cormorants”. It is now called Malachys Island. He loved the peacefulness of the lake and spent a lot of time there, especially towards the end of his life before passing in 1022.

Each Uisce, meaning Dark Water Horse, was a legend told my many a fireside all across old Ireland – a creature described as having short stumpy legs with a black head of a horse and a long sinuous body and tail, apparently seen at dusk by local fisherman of Mullingar many moons ago! 👀

We had only one request before Richie began carving and that was to connect the sculptures to our surroundings - Richie certainly delivered! 🤝

Both sculptures have their story placed beside them for your reading pleasure on your next coffee stroll at Bloomfield 🙂
