We're putting out a call!!!

Many of our friends in Passage West hail and Monkstown from other countries. Some have been here for only a small while; others are now more local than the locals themselves 😘😘😘 Whichever, we have all made this little part of Cork's Lower Harbour our home.

For Culture Night 2022, we want you to prepare and share a food or dish typical of your home place. Whether that is vepΕ™o knedlo zelo from Czechia, schabowy from Poland, paella from Spain, feijoada from Brazil, pavlova from New Zealand, nihari from Pakistan, fufu from Nigeria, bobotie from South Africa, couscous from Morocco or freshly boiled spuds from Passage West, whatever that food or dish may be, we would like to share a taste with you on Culture Night at the Centre Block, 4-6pm.

Get in touch! Email [email protected] or ring/text Assumpta at 087-2241540. We will provide forks, serviettes and all that is needed for tasting. We just need you to get cooking or baking the food which you best think represents your roots πŸ₯³πŸ₯°πŸ˜…

WOW WOW WOW πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

What an AMAZING we had here in Passage West πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

HUGE thanks to so many for making this party such a massive success ....

To those who made PlayBack possible, including the volunteers from Passage Soccer Club, Passage West Youth Club, Passage West Youth Cafe, Passage Baptist Church and residents from Ardmore Estate. To TG4 for coming to Passage West and giving PlayBack such great publicity. And to Lucy and Andrew for representing Passage West so ably as Gaeilge πŸ‘

To Dee O'Regan who appears to be the most popular facepainter in the whole of Munster! And the most tenacious: she turned out masterpiece after masterpiece in the face of rainshowers, breeze and endless queues πŸ‘

To the wonderful Gill Room Painters and to the talented students from St. Peter's Community School for sharing their art. And to the teachers of 2nd class Star Of The Sea for enabling their younger students to enjoy the art trail πŸ‘

To Francis, John and Rob for making the stage in Fr. O'Flynn Park and to Niamh Marie and her wonderful dancers from the Attridge Academy of Irish Dance who never ever fail to astound. The evening sun shining on the river behind them was a deservedly stunning backdrop πŸ‘

To Passage West library who hosted over 40 for the storytelling session from the ever-magical Maria Gillen of Story Seeds. The library was quite the hub yesterday. Big and small gathered around in the car park outside with African Drumming Ireland. What a hoot! πŸ‘

To those who made our market happen. To Passage West Creates Food for the yummy Steampackets, to Monika for the divine cakes and bread, to Sarah from Filleadh Γ³n bPlaisteach and to Ethel, Eadaoin and Carlotta for running the old-fashioned sweet stall πŸ‘

To Passage Point for arriving on the Centre Block with pizza! How thoughtful was that πŸ‘

To Brendans Butchers, Passage West Pharmacy, Passage West Post Office and Akkaya Barbers for enabling our art trail and for their enthusiasm. To Passage West Creates for being our ever-reliable organisational, supportive hub. To PACE for lending us their hall which proved invaluable during rainshowers. And to Acme Blinds for fixing the Centre Block canopy in the nick of time. It made the evening πŸ‘

To the musicians that have us still tapping our toes almost 24 hours later πŸ˜„ Harbour Keys, Sweet As and The Dagenham Yanks - you were on FIRE! What a buzz πŸ‘

Most especially, to all of you who shared the experience and the fun - THANK YOU. Culture Night Passage West would not have happened without you πŸ‘

And of course huge thanks to our funders, Cork County Council, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media and the Arts Council Ireland.

Another biggie that will be a WHOLE lot of fun πŸ˜… African Drumming Ireland will be in Fr. O'Flynn Park on Friday afternoon to teach us how to play the African drums. Patrick Naughton, our facilitator, has spent a great deal of time in Africa learning how to master these class instruments. We mightn't achieve quite his degree of expertise on Culture Night but knowing us here in , we'll sure give it our best shot πŸ˜‚

Patrick will host two workshops, one from 4-5pm and a second from 5-6pm. Spaces are limited so please email [email protected] so we can hold one for you. And yes, if you and a friend want to book a session together, that's no problem. Just email both names! Kids, teens and adults of all ages all welcome πŸ˜„

This is a biggie and as far as we know, the only event of its kind anywhere. This is PLAYBACK πŸ˜… Do you remember those street games of old? The ones we'd play for endless hours until it got dark or it was time for tea, whichever came first πŸ₯° Thanks to help from Passage Soccer Club, Passage West Youth Cafe, Passagewest Youthclub, the Passage Baptist Church, and the Ardmore residents, a whole selection of the best of those games will be organised in Marmullane Park and on the Ardmore Estate green at 4pm on Friday 23rd September. For children of any age and ability with a wee treat for all who take part 😘 Did you know that long ago the big green in Ardmore Estate was the Cornfield and the very first soccer pitch in . So this special event is part of Passage Soccer Club's 50th anniversary celebration ❀️
