WHEN A CYCLE ENDS
By Diane Gagnon
One of the hardest things for many humans to accept is to recognize that a cycle has just ended, that a loop has just been closed.
For example, all the signs are there for us to change jobs: we don't get the promotion we hoped for, the company we work for has been sold, a new boss with whom we have no affiliations just stepped into, but we persist to stay in place, hopefully things will go back to the way it used to be
Sometimes it’s a friend we’ve had for decades but whose paths have drifted so far that what unites us is just a tiny dot in the expanse of the universe.
Other times, it's a passion that we had but we artificially keep alive because we invested so much in it, even this passion no longer brings us anything, emotion, or any benefit.
Life runs in cycles: Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring. Day and night. Birth, Growth, Decline, Death. And as much as we want it to be any other way, when one cycle ends, it's not the end of the world, it's the beginning of a new cycle.
We suffer from wanting to maintain at all costs a cycle that has already ended, a completely curled loop. Wish things were back to the way it use to be. We insist on perpetuating what no longer makes us happy. And we are in pain.
Nature never goes backwards. As one cycle ends, a new one begins. A new story is born. A new relationship appears. A new job is coming up. New friends break into our lives. Wanting to put a stop to this is like wanting to stop the waves from landing on the beach.
When a cycle ends, let’s rejoice rather than resist: it means that a new cycle of hope begins so that we can continue our evolution. Because everything that is stagnant recedes, everything that goes with the flow of Life moves forward.
