Red tegus
This pair is doing great putting on some size now at around 18 inches
Very enjoyable to watch these guys they are going to be big lizards. Currently eating lots of bugs and fruit twice a week with turkey meat as a treat on weekends and some rat pups during the week.
We are basically giving them a massive selection of items to eat so they can pick what they like. I think it's good to give them a large choice of food in captivity along with supplements. Tegus are a large bodied lizard with males reaching 4.5 ft and females at around 3ft. Most of the adults size is on its tail .They can weigh as much as 20 plus kilograms and live for 15 plus years. They can be toilet trained and with time you can train them buts it's more repetitive action. Most monitor lizards can be trained in this way which is why they are in such demand in the pet trade. They are probably the closest thing to a Dinosaur you could own other than a crocodile. That being said they are probably one of the best lizards to own. Just think Big Enclosures Big lizards = Big Diet plus 15 or so years

Here's Zeus our Argus monitor
These lizards grow to a huge size and they will eat anything that fits in their mouth
This would include fingers and hands so it extremely important to understand this animals body language
They are capable of ripping trees apart looking for food and when they get an idea in their head nothing will stop them
He has his good days but more commonly he's a grumpy one but with time and work he should come around
We had him for a yr now and he's roughly 3ft its amazing to see these grow from a tiny babies upto the monsters they truly are
