It is with very heavy heart that we announce the postponement of our remaining concerts for August 2021 as a mark of respect to the memory of the late, and great, Fr. Con Cronin.

Knowing Con he would probably have wanted us to carry on, but when we have gathered so recently in such acute sadness, the thought of coming together for entertainment and fun seems utterly wrong and an affront to his memory.

We will be forever grateful to Fr. Con for the last 9 years and as he himself would say

“Gratitude is the memory of the heart.”

Let us all carry that cherished memory of Con in our hearts and let those happy times we had with him bring us solace at this really difficult time.

Our second extremely talented performer is none other than Clodagh Quirke who is attracting huge attention from big names such as Coronas star Danny O Reilly . Not afraid of hard work at her craft Clodagh is really going places - watch this space!

She is a well known musician among the locals in Passage West and Cork City.
At only 18 years old, music has always been a key aspect in her life - from the local choirs to street performances from the age of 11!

Her distinctive voice has been described as unique, powerful and extremely emotive while also being a multi instrumentalist, playing Guitar, Violin, Piano and Ukulele (and nearly all self taught !)

Clodaghs first CD ‘Sailing Alone’ was released in 2019. She is now working on her debut album to be released by the end of this year.

Clodagh is eager to get back into gigging and is planning to get her original music out to the world as soon as possible, she is hoping to study Music Technology and Sound Engineering in Limerick, but live performance is where she shines.

At this years Picnic In The Park, Clodagh will be playing with a band, made up of friends she has made through the years of performing, these are up-and-coming young musicians from all over Cork, made up of Sam Healy (Lead guitar), Anastacia Beary (Bass) and Jack Marnane (Drums).
Clodagh and the band will be mainly playing songs that we all know and can sing along to, but they will also be sneaking in one or two of Clodagh’s newest originals.

“A jaw dropping performance” - Sarah Horgan (Evening Echo)

Our wonderful series of outdoor concerts continue in Passage West with 'Irish Singers and Songwriters'.

This week we host two people who are no strangers to Passage West!

Our first guest is the ever entertaining John Spillane.

John Spillane is a musician, songwriter, performer, recording artist, storyteller, poet and dreamer. Rooted in people, place and story, his music transports the listener and his live performances captivate audiences around the world.
As an artist his music appeals to listeners across many genres and generations. His vocal style has a unique almost sean-nós like quality and his performances shimmer with the magic realism that permeates many of his songs as he effortlessly flits between beautiful poetry tinged with melancholy to roguish, irreverent humour. John has the ability to charm, mesmerise and entertain in equal measure.
A native of Cork, the County he lovingly describes as “the centre of the universe” and a source of huge creative influence throughout his career. John’s music is inspired by and encapsulates Irish traditional music in its contemporary form – a reflection of Ireland today.
A two-time Meteor award winner for Best Folk/Trad act John is one of the most accomplished songwriters in Ireland. With an extensive back catalogue beginning with the 1997 album The Wells of the World, his songs have been covered by Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Sean Keane and many others. Twelve albums later, John is set to release his first independent album in 20 years, 100 Snow White Horses.
Recorded in London with Pauline Scanlon and produced by John Reynolds the album is inspired by John’s travels around Ireland. The decision to release the album independently allowed for a greater sense of creative freedom and these new songs are full of poetry, Irish mythology and wonder. 100 Snow White Horses will be released in April of 2021.

"The real bard of Cork." Patrick Galvin

Our 3rd Star Performer giving up his Sunday afternoon for our absolute entertainment and delight this Sunday is Dan Twomey.

From Minane Bridge in Cork, Dan was born in 1983. From a very young age as a boy soprano he performed works such as ‘The Rat Pack’ in various Primary School Concerts.

At the age of 9 he joined the local Parish Choir under the leadership of Clare Canty where he first gained confidence in singing.
In 1993 he took part for the first time in the GAA Competition Scór na bPáisti. He went on to perform in competitions such as The Cork Community Games, Readoiri, Scór na nÓg, Scor Sinsear, Macra na Feirme National Talent Competition, Feis Maitiú and the ESB Feis Ceoil.

Dan has a degree in Landscape Horticulture from University College Dublin. While at UCD he became a member of the UCD Choir and in 2005 received a scholarship for 1 year to the prestigious UCD Choral Scholars Choir under the leadership of Desmond Earley. He has travelled extensively with various choirs competing at a Choral Festival in Lake Garda Italy, performed a choir at a wedding in Johannesburg South Africa and the Victoria & Albert Waterfront in Cape Town South Africa, performed Mozart’s Requiem, Faure Requiem and the World Premier of the Karl Jenkin’s ‘Gloria’ at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the World Choir Games in Graz Austria of which his choir won a bronze medal.

In 2009 Dan won an All-Ireland Title in Solo Singing at the Macra na Feirme National Talent Competition held at the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Most recently in 2010 Dan won the Presidents Perpetual Cup in Cork’s Feis Maitiú Competition.

In 2009 Dan a Cork based Vocal Group known as ‘The Eden Singers‘ who have performed extensively in weddings, funerals, competitions, corporate events and concerts.

In 2011, Dan applied for a new show on RTE ONE entitled ‘The Voice of Ireland’. He was delighted to be asked to audition in Temple Bar Hotel, Dublin in mid September 2011. There were over 1,400 people auditioned over a few days, 150 were chosen from this process to qualify for the ‘Blind Auditions’ stage of the show. Dan’s Blind Audition was televised from ‘The Helix’ at Dublin City University on Sunday 8th January 2012 where he performed ‘Nella Fantasia’ and was thrilled when well known singer and musician, Sharon Corr selected him for her team to go forward to the ‘Battle Shows’ stage. Dan performed a duet in the ‘Battle Show’ on Sunday 12th February with Vanessa Whelan, a Soprano from Waterford. The song chosen for both was the infamous ‘Time to Say Goodbye’. Unfortunately, Dan did not qualify for the next round of the competition but it has been an overwhelming experience for him which he will remember for the rest of his life!

Business began to grow in a big way for Dan in 2012 due to his appearance on ‘The Voice of Ireland’ and in September 2012 Dan received the Southern Brides ‘Best Wedding Singer’ Award as a for 2012. Dan then began studying voice under the renowned Mr. Robert Beare. In September 2012 Dan also joined a Cork based Chamber Choir called ‘Voci Nuove’ which comprises primarily of students from the music field and otherwise. Dan is really enjoying working with them also! This choir have had many successes at Cork International Choral Festival winning the John Mannion Trophy in May 2013 and also were the Overall Winners of the City of Derry International Choral Festival in Oct 2013.

In March 2013, Dan competed in four competitions in Cork’s Feis Maitiú Competition which took place at Father Matthew Hall. Dan did extremely well in these competitions where he was overall winner of ‘The Operatic Cup’ by performing ‘Un’ aura amorosa’ by W.A Mozart from ‘Cosi fan Tutte’ which placed him at 89 Marks with a Gold Medal and Perpetual Cup for his efforts. Dan also went on to ‘The Duhallow Award’ for Early Music by performing ‘Per La Gloria d’Adorarvi’ by Bononcini and ‘I Attempt From Loves Sickness to Fly’ by Purcell and this placed him at 89 Marks also. Dan also performed in the ‘Oratorio’ and ‘Lieder’ Classes in the competition and was commended with a Certificate in the Lieder Competition.

Dan has undergone voice training over the years with skilled people such as Cork Soprano, Fiona O’ Reilly, Robert Beare (former teacher at CIT Cork School of Music), Mary MacSweeney (current teacher at CIT Cork School of Music) and Stephen Wallace from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.

In 2014, Dan completed exams with the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and received a Distinction (90%) in Grade 5 Music Theory and Grade 8 Singing Performance!

In 2015, Dan went further in his studies to pursue a Licentiate of Trinity College London (LTCL) Performance Diploma in Singing. Dan was thrilled to get the result of this, another starkling Distinction (93%)!

In November 2016, Dan released his debut album entitled ‘Stranger in Paradise’ at ‘The Kingsley Hotel’ in Cork City.

Our second extremely talented artist is Louise O Sullivan.

Louise is a dedicated artist who has developed a passion for heartfelt and emotional performances with operatic and musical theatre genres for the past 20 years.
Louise sang her first concert at the age of 5 performing "Silent Night" and Buzz Buzz Buzz" at her local Musical Festival in Carrickfergus.
Her introduction to theatre audiences soon followed at the infamous Feis Maitiu Corcaigh and led to a training in the theatre as part of the chorus and small lead roles in the I.O.R.C in the Opera House in Cork.

She graduated from UCC and NUI Maynooth with a B.A and M.A in Musicology and performing and has honed a reputation as one of the most emotive and dramatic mezzo sopranos in Ireland.

Louise is living locally and is a very active member of the Community.
She is also one of the organisers of the Picnic in the Park 2021 series of Concerts.

Thank you Louise Osullivan for giving up your valuable time to create a wonderful series of concerts for us all!

A Sneak Peek at our amazing line up at Picnic In the Park 2021 starting this Sunday afternoon with "Music from the Movies and Musicals"

A VERY limited number of tickets left which must be booked in advance. Send a PM or email: [email protected]

Please note that ALL performers are giving their time, energy and their beautiful voices free gratis for this Community Outreach Event.
Given the year their industry has just had that is an amazing act of generosity.
We salute you all and thank you sincerely.

Our first artist is Ryan Morgan who was brought up in Merthyr Tydfli in Wales.

He has worked variously as a shop assistant, law lecturer, a busker, in a deep freeze, as a research consultant to the UK Department of Health, and as a paper boy (not in that order). He now works as a professional singer and singing teacher. Described as "a remarkable stage presence" (Jo Kerrigan, Irish Examiner) and "a sweet tenor" (Donal O'Riordan, Sunday Business Post), Ryan has had the good fortune to sing in some of Ireland's finest venues. He’s sung for the President of Ireland, Ministers of State, foreign dignitaries and the inaugural voyages of cruise ships. Among his qualifications are Master of Music, Master of Law, Doctor of Philosophy and at one point he was a milk monitor (until he dropped the crate). He lives in Cobh, County Cork with his beautiful wife and three children. He still maintains a Welsh accent. He's not putting it on. He rhymes to while the time between nervous breakdowns.
