Foggy Notions is incredibly proud to present a historic 50 year celebration of one of the most influential musical documents of all time by a true icon of rock and roll and counter-culture, Patti Smith.

In the fall of 1975, Patti Smith gathered her band in Electric Lady Studios in New York City to record her debut album, Horses. Released on November 10th by Arista Records, it has come to be regarded as a seminal and landmark recording that continues to have resonance and relevance for succeeding generations of musicians and artists. Horses clarion call was: “three chord rock merged with the power of the word.”

A poet and visual artist, Patti had begun improvising her unique blend of song and hallucinatory imagery two years before, appearing on cabaret stages and small clubs with the support of guitarist Kaye and pianist Richard Sohl. She honed her songs in this live setting, allowing them to develop at will, garnering an ever-growing audience within the Manhattan underground. By the time she launched a seven-week residency at the relatively obscure Bowery club, CBGB, in winter of 1975, her band had grown, adding include guitarist Ivan Kral and drummer Jay Dee Daugherty. It was during this time that she was signed by Arista president Clive Davis. John Cale was chosen by the band to produce the album, and it was released on November 10, the death date of one of Patti’s most important influences, the poet Arthur Rimbaud.

It opened with an anthemic declaration of personal responsibility – “Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine” – folded within Van Morrison’s classic “Gloria”. Infused with poetry, Horses is an uncompromising exploration that helped lay the groundwork for what would
become known as the upheaval of “punk,” though Smith and her band always attempted to avoid categorization: “beyond race gender baptism mathematics politricks,” as Patti wrote in the liner notes, adding “…as for me I am truly totally ready to go.”

Foggy Notions Presents
JESSICA PRATT
Vicar Street Dublin - Sunday 13th July 2025.

Foggy Notions presents Jessica Pratt who released one of the great masterpieces of 2024 with her album Here In the Pitch live at Vicar Street on Sunday 13th July. Tickets on sale now www.ticketmaster.ie

“Jessica Pratt’s fourth album of hypnagogic folk music hones her mysterious song to its finest point. There is already so much to admire about Jessica Pratt the folk artist: her elliptical lyrics, her nylon-string guitar and voice to match. But the label of folk singer-songwriter doesn’t quite capture the real essence of the Jessica Pratt song. It is difficult to describe, like a dream that doesn’t go anywhere but still feels like you should talk about it in therapy.” – Pitchfork Best New Music 8.8

From the opening seconds of “Life Is,” it’s clear that Here in the Pitch is a very different kind of album from Jessica Pratt. The revered Los Angeles artist has become one of the most singular and distinctive songwriters of her generation, largely through the bewitching sound of her acoustic guitar and vocals: a mystical, elusive blend that conjures deep emotional responses from her devoted (and patient) audience. To introduce her first release in half-a-decade, however, she greets us with neither her breathtaking vocals nor the delicate, sophisticated strum of her guitar. Instead, Pratt’s fourth album begins with a percussion roll that nods instantly to the grand, orchestral style of ’60s pop hits like the Walker Brothers’ “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore.”

RÓIS

The Workman’s Club Dublin - Thursday 1st May 2025

Foggy Notions presents RÓIS live at The Workman’s Club on Thursday 1st May. Tickets on sale now www.tixketmaster.ie

RÓIS is a composer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and electronic artist from Fermanagh, whose songs breathe new life into a forgotten Ireland. Blending elements of folk, sean-nós, electronics, and jazz harmony, RÓIS’ genre-bending sound transports listeners to a different realm. With shapeshifting sets, no two performances are ever the same, as audiences accompany RÓIS into her sound world. Expect twists and turns of tempo and genre, and moments of sheer magic, as she conducts the energy of the room. This is a place where the ancient meets the new.

RÓIS’ ethereal voice has been compared to the likes of Björk, Meredith Monk and Hatis Noit. It is a vocal style rooted in traditional sean-nós singing, as she summons the dead and forgotten, with ancient ‘keening’ songs. With RÓIS’ performances the old and the new are enmeshed, alongside encapsulating visuals, in the hope of creating good art. Leading audiences into a realm of mysticism and creating a space for introspection, these live experiences are completely unique.

In late 2024, RÓIS self-released her acclaimed EP ‘MO LÉAN’. Written and produced by RÓIS with additional production from John Spud Murphy (OXN/Lankum), ‘MO LÉAN’ is a concept record, taking the listener through the grieving process from start to finish, from the chaos that loss brings, to the intense emotional outpourings and finally, a cathartic release.

“RÓIS is a startling singer…Mo Léan heralds an arresting new talent” – The Guardian (Folk Album Of The Month)

“Connolly explores wider concepts of death, grief and catharsis that at times reaches astonishing potency” – The Quietus

Tickets on sale now www.ticketmaster.ie

Josephine Foster (b. 1974) is a North American artist celebrated as a singer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. Renowned for reviving archaic musical forms, she channels the cultural essence of Harry Smith’s “old weird America” with her warbling mezzo-soprano and imaginative artistry, showcased over nearly two decades of self-produced recordings.

As Jarry noted, anachronism—bridging different eras—creates a sense of eternity, a concept perfectly embodied by Foster’s unique songbook. Her musical journey began in the Mountain West, where, at just 15, she performed hymns in a log cabin church. Despite a stage presence marked by quiet reserve, her distinct timbre exudes a paradoxical mix of rustic charm and ethereal sophistication.

In her twenties, Foster immersed herself in Chicago’s experimental rock and free jazz scene, shedding remnants of her early operatic ambitions.
A transatlantic move followed, leading her to rural Spain, where she spent over a decade grounding her craft. Later, stints in Nashville’s recording studios further shaped her prolific career, resulting in a rich tapestry of solo and band albums. Whether on stage or in the studio, she has led a variety of ensembles across the globe.

Foster’s artistry draws from timeless spiritual wells, her performances hypnotic and dreamlike. Her otherworldly voice weaves seamlessly with her instruments—guitar, piano, harp, and autoharp—creating folk-inspired songs with intricate and unexpected arrangements. While she gravitates toward piano and organ, she effortlessly adapts to any guitar within reach, adding spontaneity and playfulness to her musical expression.

Armlock make music for having your head in the clouds. On their new album, Seashell Angel Lucky Charm, the Australian duo of Simon Lam and Hamish Mitchell take you through a steady ascension into heavenly sonic realms. The band’s second proper release, and first for Run For Cover Records, Seashell Angel Lucky Charm taps onto the songwriters’ roots in experimental electronic roots and filters them through an indie rock lens, drawing the listener in close with crystal clear guitars, tight rhythms, warm harmonies, and sparse arrangements that leave room for character and eccentricities. The result is an album of inventively minimal music that does a lot with a little.

Armlock’s sound at times recalls Pinback’s lean alternative, Alex G’s adventurous indie, or the wave of mysterious-yet-endearing genre-bending music coming out of the UK from label’s like Dean Blunt’s World Music or Vegyn’s PLZ Make It Ruins. Album opener “Ice Cold” provides a perfect entry point into Armlock’s world and their skill with coalescing disparate influences. One trap beat away from a Bladee track, the song begins with robotic voices reminiscent of Boards of Canada and evolves into the meditative warmth found in Adrianne Lenker’s more lo-fi work. There’s a subdued tenderness to Lam’s vocal delivery as he ponders the loss of a friendship and introduces the album’s fixation on air signs and higher dimensions.

FRIDAY 23RD MAY - SOLD OUT
FRIDAY 22ND AUGUST - JUST ANNOUNCED

Following a sold out show in May Throwing Muses add a second Dublin date in Whelan’s, Dublin in August following the news of the release of their new album Moonlight Concessions in March. Tickets on sale now www.whelanslive.com www.ticketmaster.ie

Throwing Muses release their new album, ‘Moonlight Concessions’, on 14th March 2025 via Fire Records. The album follows their acclaimed ‘Sun Racket’ from 2020, a heady set filled with tough and tender tales spiked with surreal imagery.

Produced by Kristin Hersh at Steve Rizzo’s Stable Sound Studio in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, ‘Moonlight Concessions’ goes back to basics, a return for Throwing Muses to their esoteric off-kilter best courtesy of Kristin’s pin-sharp sketches and their suitably abrasive musical arrangements.

‘Moonlight Concessions’ is a collection of snippets from everyday life writ large - think Raymond Carver Short Cuts, overheard conversations, recounted happenings and telling one-liners, all sewed together to illustrate the times as they slowly mature, fully peppered with original Muses’ vim and vigour.

Following the release of their comeback album LOOK TO THE EAST, LOOK TO THE WEST beloved Scottish indie pop legends Camera Obscura play their first Dublin show in 10 years!

Look to the East, Look to the West, the latest album by Camera Obscura, is a revelation. The Tracyanne Campbell-led outfit, reuniting with producer Jari Haapalainen (Let’s Get Out of This Country, My Maudlin Career), have crafted an album that simultaneously recalls why longtime fans have ferociously lovedthem for decades while also being their most sophisticated effort to date.

It is also the most hard-fought album of Camera Obscura’s career.Following the 2015 passing of founding keyboardist and friend Carey Lander (to whom the penultimate track “Sugar Almond” is addressed), the band went into an extended hiatus. They remained in contact, but their status was uncertain until they announced their return, having been invited to perform as part of Belle & Sebastian’s 2019 Boaty Weekender cruise festival, along with a pair of sold-out warm-up shows in Glasgow. Donna Maciocia (keys
and vocals) joined founding members Kenny McKeeve (guitar and vocals), Gavin Dunbar (bass), and Lee Thomson (drums and percussion) for those shows and has since become a regular songwriting partner of Campbell’s.

HIGH VIS

The Grand Social Dublin - Friday 7th March 2025

Tickets on general sale Friday 31st January at 10am

Foggy Notions & U:MACK are proud to present the debut Irish performance of High Vis.

Birthed in 2016 from a cross-section of beloved UK punk groups, London’s High Vis have steadily become legends by virtue of their passionate performances and evolving discography of poetic, progressive hardcore. Comprised of singer Graham Sayle, drummer Edward “Ski” Harper, bassist Jack Muncaster, and guitarists Martin Macnamara and Rob Hammaren, the band fuse the fury of English street punk with touches of Brit pop melody, neo-psychedelia swirl, wiry post-punk rhythm, and even bits of Madchester groove. To Sayle, such melting pot energy points the way forward: “For years hardcore had pretty clear boundaries – other scenes were separate worlds. Now things are getting more blended, drawing from different places.”

The band’s third and latest full-length, Guided Tour, refines their lyricism and chemistry to its most potent nexus yet. Full of swagger and sneers, hooks and hope, revolt and righteous anger, the album’s 10 tracks hit like anthems for a new England. And while the songs’ specifics often speak to their native country in particular, the themes addressed are universal. Theirs is a camaraderie born of sweat and experience, years in the trenches of ripping shows and s**t jobs, still fighting back, still fighting for something better. High Vis are proving themselves protectors of the flame, and avatars of the best hardcore has to offer.
