Foggy Notions Presents
HAVE A NICE LIFE
Button Factory Dublin
Sunday 15th June 2025 - SOLD OUT
Monday 16th June 2025 - JUST ANNOUNCED

Following the sellout of their show on Sunday, June 15th, Foggy Notions is proud to announce that Have A Nice Life will perform a second show on Monday, June 16th. Tickets on sale now www.ticketmaster.ie

Have A Nice Life formed in the early 2000s when its two primary members, Dan Barrett and Tim Macuga, were studying at the University of Massachusetts. With the aim of crafting “oddly aggressive acoustic songs,” the duo spent five years meticulously constructing their debut LP, Deathconsciousness, a 2008 release that rippled across the post-punk landscape.

Deathconsciousness is now hailed for its anguished subject matter and unwaveringly lo-fi production, and it is considered an experimental cornerstone, leading to a cult following that grew steadily over the years. The record’s unique blend of post-punk, shoegaze, and industrial influences set it apart, earning critical acclaim and a lasting legacy in the underground music scene.
In 2014, Have A Nice Life released their follow-up album, The Unnatural World, which continued to explore the dark and introspective themes of their debut while further developing their distinctive sound. Their third album, Sea of Worry, released in 2019, saw the band incorporating more diverse musical influences and refining their production techniques. Sea of Worry blends elements of goth rock, post-punk, and shoegaze, delivering a more polished yet equally intense listening experience. The album tackles themes of existential dread and anxiety, resonating with listeners through its powerful lyrics and immersive soundscapes. Have A Nice Life’s live performances, though rare, are highly anticipated events, characterized by their intense energy and the duo’s ability to translate their complex studio work into powerful live renditions. Despite maintaining a relatively low public profile, Dan Barrett and Tim Macuga have cultivated a dedicated fan base and continue to influence a new generation of musicians drawn to their uncompromising artistic vision.

Second Dublin date added for Gang of Four’s Farewell Tour in Dublin due to huge demand. Tickets on general sale now www.ticketmaster.ie

GANG OF FOUR ANNOUNCE SECOND DUBLIN SHOW ON FAREWELL TOUR, IN SPRING 2025.

TITLED ‘THE LONG GOODBYE’ THE TOUR WILL FEATURE THEIR LEGENDARY DEBUT ALBUM ‘ENTERTAINMENT!’ PLAYED IN FULL EACH NIGHT.

Gang of Four have announced their final North American Tour labeled ‘The Long Goodbye’. The band – touring as Jon King (vocals), Hugo Burnham (drums) and David Pajo of Slint (guitar) will say farewell to fans across North America and Europe in 2025.

The show will mark a celebration of the band’s live performances. The iconic debut album ‘Entertainment!’ is still as relevant, exciting, and influential as ever. After 45 years, the band will play the album front to back, followed by a second set filled with fan-favorites and hit songs.

As pioneers of the post-punk movement, Gang Of Four’s music favored tense rhythms, percussive guitar, and lyrics that traded in Marxist theory and situationism.

“2025 will be the 45th anniversary of the release of ‘Entertainment!‘ in the US, and will be our final year as a band. It’s been wonderful, but all things must end. We want to go out with a bang and celebrate with our fans and friends. So, on what will be our last US tour, we’ll play two sets at each show: ‘Entertainment!” from start to finish in the first, and the best of the rest in the second. Come and join in, it’ll be a blast!”

Gang of Four
Earlier this month it was announced that Matador Records will reissue the band’s third album ‘Songs of the Free’ – released on Friday October 25th on black vinyl. Remastered from the original tapes by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road, with supervision by Jon King

EARTH

Whelan’s Dublin - Saturday 24th May 2025

Foggy Notions presents EARTH live at Whelan’s on Saturday 24th `May. Tickets on general sale Thursday 19th December @ www.ticketmaster.ie

Over the course of their thirty trips around the sun, Earth has remained diligent in their commitment to monolithic minimalism. The sonic vocabulary may have changed—from their early years churning out seismic drone metal on albums like Earth 2 (1993) to the dusty Morricone-tinged comeback album Hex; Or Printing in the Infernal Method (2005) to the meditative rock approach of Primitive and Deadly (2014)—but the underlying principle of austerity and restraint remains a constant. With their latest album Full Upon Her Burning Lips, Earth purges the layers of auxiliary instrumentation that embellished some of their previous records and deconstructed their dynamic to the core duo of Dylan Carlson on guitar and bass and Adrienne Davies on drums and percussion. In the process, they tapped into the Platonic ideal of Earth—an incarnation of the long running band bolstered by the authority of purpose, where every note and every strike on the drum kit carries the weight of the world.

Full Upon Her Burning Lips opens with “Datura’s Crimson Veils”, a twelve-minute opus that adheres to Earth’s 21st century approach with Carlson’s sepia-toned Bakersfield Sound guitars lurching across a barren landscape while Davies punctuates the melodies with death knell drums. It’s a sound that harkens back to the riff-constructed vistas of their Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light albums, but stripped of their ornateness. “It was definitely a very organically developed record,” Carlson says of the process. “I limited the number of effects I used. I always like the limiting of materials to force oneself to employ them more creatively. Previous Earth records were quite lush sounding, and I wanted a more upfront and drier sound, using very few studio effects.” In less capable hands, these kinds of limitations might diminish the aural scope of the compositions, but Carlson and Davies have always thrived on reductive methods.

Yoni Wolf has spent the last two decades traveling the remote sonic terrain where underground hip hop, avant-pop, and psych-rock meet. In that time he’s cultivated a unique sound, and a unique position as one of contemporary music’s most distinctive voices. Some of Yoni’s most compelling and critically-praised musical experiments have been issued under the moniker WHY? and his latest entry is no exception. On AOKOHIO Yoni condenses the essential elements of WHY? into a stunningly potent musical vision.

Co-produced by Yoni and his brother Josiah, AOKOHIO presents a rich palette of musical voices that emerge and disappear into a constantly shifting kaleidoscope of sound. “I wanted a wide variety of sounds. I didn’t want this album to sit in one sonic zone. I’ve always felt like too jagged of a person to be smooth in that way,” Yoni says. While the album features many notable guest contributors, from Lala Lala’s Lillie West, to Nick Sanborn and Amelia Meath of Sylvan Esso, the listener’s attention remains squarely directed on Yoni’s voice and vision.

“An incredible, accomplished confection” 9/10 UNCUT

“A thoroughly brilliant and modern rock album” Loud & Quiet / Albums Of The Year

The film features Geordie’s US Band, Santiago Moyano on Percussion, Charlie Shefft on Drums, Cameron Campbell on Keys and Dave Strawn on Bass. See below for full details.

LAEL NEALE
The Workman’s Cellar - Saturday 10th May 2025.

Foggy Notions presents Lael Neale live at The Workman’s Cellar on Saturday 10th May. Tickets on sale now www.ticketmaster.ie

Lael Neale’s minimalist drone pop draws inspiration from the Transcendentalists, the high lonesome sound of primitive American gospel music & the alienation of modern life.

Since signing with Sub Pop in 2020, she has split her time between rural Virginia and Los Angeles in addition to extensive touring throughout Europe and select shows in the U.S.

In collaboration with producer and accompanist Guy Blakeslee, Neale has created two internationally acclaimed home-recorded albums. They have recently completed a third which is slated for release in 2025.

Selected press:

“A unique, boldly weird proposition, and one that proudly carries the faint hint of tractor grease. Half of it comes on like cult 70s folk artist Karen Dalton hanging out with the Velvet Underground and Suicide, while the rest offers somewhat more modern balladry, placing her more in the world of Angel Olsen and Cat Power.” - THE GUARDIAN

“Neale is imaginative, but she’s steeped in songwriting craft and she knows her way round a whopping chorus.”

★★★★ - MOJO

“The simplicity is part of what makes her record so beautiful; just her voice, her words, her electric guitar, and her omnichord are enough to put the listener in a trance.” - SPIN

“She’s managed to infuse a very done old female singer-songwriter, emotive approach with fresh abandon. She abandons a lot of the traditional instrumentation and doesn’t often bother with a beat and just kind of lets the whole feeling of the thing go into a place that suddenly doesn’t sound like it’s of the industry. And I like her record.” - Iggy Pop (BBC Radio)
