The Little Church was packed out for Joe Kearney & PJ Cunningham's look back on the electrification of Ireland.

We learned from one Sneem local that not everyone initially welcomed electricity and amazingly some local houses were only connected to the grid in 1980!

Thank you to our speakers and everyone who came along to make this a very enjoyable evening.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear the captivating story of changing Ireland in the Mid 20th Century.

Marked by rural electrification and a burgeoning cultural shift, this period saw the rise of ballrooms and dance halls across the country, fueled by the availability of electricity and the booming sound of modern music.

Acclaimed authors, storytellers and broadcasters, Dr. Joe Kearney and PJ Cunningham will entertain you with tales and insight from this fascinating period of Ireland's history.

This event is part of Sneem Summer Festival and takes place on Wednesday, July 17th, at 8:00 pm at Sneem Story House (The Little Church, V93 AX84).

Tickets €10 are available from Úna at Sneem Book Store, online at www.sneemstoryhouse.ie or at the door on the night.

Read about the fascinating history of Gobnait Ní Bhruadair, who played the harmonium in the Little Church and is buried in the graveyard

St Gobnait's day - reminds me of. her namesake, better known as Lady Albinia Brodrick but who chose the name Gobnait Ní Bhruadair - this blog post I wrote about her: https://www.discoveriveragh.ie/initiatives/lady-albinia-brodrick-gobnait-n-bhruadair. I suspect most people think the ruins in this image date to famine times - how quickly things become forgotten. Exactly how long ago did people know the/a meaning and purpose of rock art?
As usual, a great blog, from Roaringwater Journal that's relevant to the day that's in it
