👰💕 Wedding Traditions Explained - Wearing White 💕👰

Ever wondered why traditionally Western brides wear white? It's all because of Queen Victoria who wore a white dress to her wedding to Prince Albert in 1840 in order to show off the British lace industry which was in decline in the late nineteenth century. Due to media coverage, white bridal gowns soon became fashionable amongst the upper class, and then soon became a tradition across all classes in the twentieth century.

Previous to this, wedding dresses were a variety of colours and were more often than not chosen for their re-wearability or were already owned by the bride.

💚 Irish Wedding Traditions - The Horseshoe 💚

The tradition of using horseshoes at weddings dates back centuries and is rooted in the belief that they bring good luck and protection. Horseshoes are particularly prominent in Irish weddings, reflecting their deep-rooted Celtic folklore and the belief in fairies and the protective nature of horseshoes.

A horseshoe is often given to the bride as a symbol of good fortune and protection for her marriage, and can be carried by either a pageboy/flower girl or the bride themselves, held in the 'U' shape to "hold" the luck. After the wedding, it is tradition for couples to hang the horseshoe in their home to continue their good fortune throughout their marriage.

Horseshoes can be incorporated into weddings through decor, adorned with ribbons, flowers, or lace, and used as keepsakes for guests. Some brides include a horseshoe in their bouquet, while others have it sewn into their dress.
