There are some plants that after flowering reveal very attractive seedheads which not only add interest when left in situ in the garden but also add character & uniqueness to any flower arrangement.

Some of my favourites are the common poppy, nigella, honesty, alliums &  nicandra to name but a few. I love using them particularly in my wreaths & arrangements at this time of year.

What are your favourites if any?

Hi Doreen here from in north Co Monaghan . Thanks to for hosting last week & showcasing her gorgeous selection of Irish grown flowers  of 2024.

My own fresh flowers are well & truly over and my time now is being spent tidying up the flower beds & garden for winter.

The Christmas season is in full swing  and for me it's also a frantic time of wreath making, orders, markets & workshops.

I had my first Christmas market of the year yesterday. I dry a lot of material over the summer months which I use to create dried flower hearts, wreaths, candle surrounds etc  which make lovely unique Christmas presents.

I love being at the markets as there's usually a great variety of stall holders...it's lovely to meet fellow crafters for the chats and meet up with old and new customers and  to promote my work in the community.

So please support your own local Christmas craft fairs & markets this year & check out near you who are beavering away with all things Christmassy!🎄

The weather has been so awful here, and I hope everyone is doing ok. All this rain and wind has me thinking about what's to come. I do love the quiet winter months, and after a busy season, the quiet times are certainly welcome, but I can't help but look ahead. These are a just a small selection of some of my flowers from the 2024 season, hoping for the same results this year🤞 Check in with your local flower farmer this coming year and see what they have on offer💐 # # #

Hi, it's Siobhan from I'm looking forward to hosting the page this week. I'm based in Cleggan Village, located right on the West Coast of Ireland. I grow mainly in polytunnels, this is due to the high winds and rain we are often blessed (battered) with here! It's a beautiful area, but growing flowers has definitely been challenging. It's a good job that I'm stubborn though and I've been growing for nearly 5 years now, I've nearly got the hang of it... nearly! I'll show you a bit of what I'm doing this week and of course I'll show you some of the stunning flowers I grew here this season💐

As yesterday was spent clearing beds for my tulip bulbs, I thought I’d share some pics from last spring. I fell in love with Orange Princess and ordered way too many this year 🤣
Lots of compost from the farm was added to the beds too. A busy but productive day 😅

Do you have a favourite tulip?🌷

I have enjoyed hosting the page from this week. Thanks to everyone for your questions and lovely comments. Looking forward to seeing what Siobhan from has in store for us next week 😊

Bucket of blooms picked today 🌸 Making the most of the last bits of colour before I clear and mulch most of the beds. Lots of hardy annuals in the greenhouse at the moment. Looking forward to snapdragons like these again next year 🤞🤞 My sweet pea seedlings are well ready to go into the tunnel to join the biennials. It’s my first winter with the tunnel so it‘s all very exciting 🤗

Good morning from a very foggy Limerick 🌫️
Carol here from hosting page this week. Please give them a follow if you don‘t already. Their ethos is all about sustainability and growing fresh, local, seasonal flowers in a way that is kind to the planet🌱 🌎
Look up their website to find your local grower!
I‘m sharing a few pictures from the farm this morning. Cosmos and Dahlias still hanging in there 🌸 I can’t bring myself to clear the beds when there’s still so much colour.
The last picture shows Eucalyptus I grew from seed in February. Debating whether to pot it on or put it in the ground 🤷🏻‍♀️ Any advice is very welcome 😊

Have a lovely day,
Carol x

Hi, I‘m Carol from Sage Garden Flower Farm in Clarina, Co. Limerick, delighted to be hosting the Flower Farmers of Ireland page this week 🌸
Thanks so much to Claire at , another Limerick grower, for sharing her lovely posts with us last week 💐
Here on the farm we grow a selection of seasonal cut flowers and foliage, mostly from seeds and cuttings and always without the use of pesticides and herbicides🌱
I have been growing flowers and vegetables for a few years but only set up my business this year. I am taking a break from my teaching job to spend time growing and arranging cut flowers and have gone back to college to study Organic Horticulture in Dromcollogher in County Limerick. To say I‘m loving it all is an understatement 😍
With the mild weather I have managed to keep selling fresh flower bouquets up to last week. All the materials I use in these arrangements are grown here on the farm, and I love how they change with the seasons. I have included a few of pictures of flowers from November.
I‘m looking forward to posting here for the week, and if you have any questions or queries, please get in contact, I‘d love to hear from you. Follow me on if you‘d like to find out more about my business 😊

Thank you,
Carol 🌸

HI, Claire of here.
I am new to dried flowers. I made this with Statice and Strawflowers.
You will find growers on https://flowerfarmersofireland.ie who grow and make beautiful designs with an amazing variety of dried flowers.
This is my last post. I enjoyed hosting for Flower Farmers of Ireland and appreciate your support. I am handing over now to another Limerick grower, Carol .

Hi, Claire of here.
Most of my flowers are gone now so I am glad I took some pictures this Summer. This one is small bunches/posies.
Today I mulched my dahlias in my allotment (pic 2). I hedged my bets this year and dug up half and left half in the ground. I will probably dig these up when they sprout next year to save them from the slugs/snails, pot them up and and then plant out early June.
I am lucky to have plenty of mulch available at my allotment (pic 3).

Hi, Claire of here.
The more I grow flowers, the more I appreciate foliage. Bupleurum is my favourite. It has small green leaves with very small yellow flowers. You can see it on the right in pic 1 underneath the peach strawflower. I like Bupleurum so much I collected enough seed this year to grow lots and lots, pic 2. I also like Cerenthe (pic 1 on left, green and purple), Mint, Monarda, Basil and many more. Pic 1 is taken from pic 3 which is my car boot filled with bunches for the market earlier this year.

Hi, Claire here from hosting this week for Flower Farmers of Ireland. Thanks to Zahra for her beautiful posts last week.

Last of the flowers - there are still little bits of beauty left in the garden. These are a bunch I picked earlier that will go into a remembrance wreath tomorrow. Included are feverfew, salvia, cosmos, milkmaid nasturtium, symphyotrichum and the last flush of the gorgeous rose Joie de Vivre.
Zahra signing off for the week, really enjoyed showing a bit of what we’ve been up to this week. Handing over to Claire who’s hosting next 🌸

Some new flowers we grew this year 🌸
First pic is new favourite dahlia Natalie G, such a beautiful colour. Second pic is a single tulip called Mystic Van Eijk which surprised us a lot and was a really lovely addition in spring. We also grew nicotiana and clarkia for the first time. Both very easy to grow and nice tall stems. We’ve saved seeds of both and will grow again in our favourite shades of creamy pinks

Tulips and ranunculus are two of the most beautiful flowers we grow. Although an investment every year, they are always worth it come springtime. This time of year is so important to make sure there is a good crop of spring flowers next year. Today’s job was planting some tulip bulbs. Usually we do this a bit later when it’s colder but we wanted to be on top of things this autumn. Last week we soaked and sprouted the ranunculus corms which are now putting out roots and shoots. They grow so fast and will be ready to go out in no time.
