The Indian peafowl (Pavo cristatus), also known as the common peafowl, and blue peafowl, is a peafowl species native to the Indian subcontinent. Male peafowl are referred to as peacocks, and female peafowl are referred to as peahens, even though peafowl of either s*x are often referred to colloquially as "peacocks".

The bird is celebrated in Hindu and Greek mythology and is the national bird of India.

GALIKERE TREK | July2019

Among all the amazing treks in chikmagalur this trek has its own charm. Galikere is a lake on top of the mountain next to Bababundangiri. The name Galikere means "Gali = Wind" and "Kere = Lake". Entire trek route one can feel the wind blowing you off. Amazing breath taking views all along the route.

The great hornbill (Buceros bicornis) also known as the concave-casqued hornbill, great Indian hornbill or great pied hornbill, is one of the larger members of the hornbill family. It is found in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Its impressive size and colour have made it important in many tribal cultures and rituals. The great hornbill is long-lived, living for nearly 50 years in captivity. It is predominantly frugivorous, but is an opportunist and will prey on small mammals, reptiles and birds.

Teams that treks together stays together. This was a corporate team outing program where the team decided to break off the regular norm of same old resort comforts or the pub bashes. It was our pleasure to facilitate and plan this program of 3days and 2 nights program to chikmagalur. It involved 2 treks, 2 campfires and visiting waterfalls etc. The idea of exploring the rough terrain together definitely gives individuals to transgress in developing a bonding beyond the usual. Its always a pleasure to lead such teams.

LITHOPS | LIVING STONES

Lithops is a genus of succulent plants native to southern Africa. The name is derived from the Ancient Greek words (lithos), meaning "stone," and (ops), meaning "face," referring to the stone-like appearance of the plants. They avoid being eaten by blending in with surrounding rocks and are often known as pebble plants or living stones. Individual Lithops plants consist of one or more pairs of bulbous, almost fused leaves opposite to each other and hardly any stem. The slit between the leaves contains the meristem and produces flowers and new leaves.
The most startling adaptation of Lithops is the colouring of the leaves. The leaves are fenestrated, and the epidermal windows are patterned in various shades of cream, grey, and brown, with darker windowed areas, dots, and red lines, according to species and local conditions. The markings function as remarkable camouflage for the plant in its typical stone-like environment. Because their camouflage is so effective, new species continue to be discovered, sometimes in remote regions of Namibia and South Africa, and sometimes in well-populated areas where they simply had been overlooked for generations.

CHIKMAGALUR | TRAVEL

Chikmagalur is one of the hill stations in Karnataka, which is hardly 4 hours drive from Bengaluru. The literal meaning of Chikmagalur is ‘Land of the younger daughter.’ Its known for its coffee plantations, stunning mountain ranges, amazing waterfalls, pleasant climate & rich history.
To the north is Baba Budangiri, a mountain range in the Western Ghats, with 3 large caves said to be holy. Trails through forests and grasslands lead up to Mullayanagiri Peak. The cascading Hebbe Falls lie in an area of coffee plantations. The forested Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, northwest of Chikmagalur, is home to elephants, tigers and leopards.

LONELY GEORGE, A TREE SNAIL - EXTINCT

Rains brings out happiness so does it brings out snails & slugs. However the sad reality is even these tiny creatures are getting extinct. George, Reclusive Hawaiian Snail And Last Of His Kind, Dies At 14. The passing of George, a member of the Achatinella apexfulva species and a tree snail who fed on tree fungus, algae and bacteria, epitomizes the decline of biodiversity. This tiny creature’s disappearance probably generated the most media attention of any lost species in 2019.

“I know it’s just a snail, but it represents a lot more,” says David Sischo, a wildlife biologist with the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources and coordinator of the Snail Extinction Prevention Program.

Arrival of monsoon sets tone to explore the blooming western ghats with amazing rain treks. Did you know Butterflies Migrate too?

A surge of a million butterflies happens annually in the Western Ghats, as they migrate just before the onset of the Southwest Monsoon. “They move towards the plains and the Eastern Ghats to escape the rains. Sometimes, it is mere dispersal to cope with food scarcity, when there is a shortage of host plants. Between July and September, when the rains recede in the Western Ghats, they move back. When the butterflies return, they do so with a new generation. During the pre-monsoon, milkweed butterflies like the dark blue tiger, blue tiger, common crow and double-branded crow move swiftly towards the plains in a vivid streak of yellows, blues and browns. Butterfly migration is one of the least studied natural phenomena in the India.

A pregnant elephant was fed cracker stuffed pineapple by unidentified people in Kerala which exploded in her mouth and damaged her jaw. She walked around the village and finally passed away standing in a river. We can't even possibly imagine the pain which she must've gone through. It was the fate of the animal that she fell into the trap of an inhuman deed only because she was hungry. Even after the elephant was injured, she did not crush a single home or hurt a single human being. She just stood in a river because of the excruciating pain and passed away without hurting a single soul.
We keep searching for monsters hoping they would be having the devil's horns on their heads. From anybody who throws stones at a stray dog to anybody hurting a living soul, choose one face. A lot of these animals trust human beings bcos they have been helped by them in the past.
Animals should not require our permission to live on earth. Animals were given the right to be here long before we arrived.
Day by day as humanity is getting lost while cases like these are on a rise, do we still have the audacity to ask why nature is angry with us?
