We recently documented our first wedding in Siliguri since establishing our presence in this part of the country.
Amidst the enchanting winter ambiance of Siliguri, the union of Bengali bride Swaralipi and Assamese groom Nishant unfolded, creating delightful moments that symbolized the bond between individuals from different states of the country.
Here are the initial set of images from the wedding, presented in a carefully curated sequence:

Photo 2:
Swaralipi’s mother is captured in the midst of preparations, adorning the space just before the arrival of the groom’s family. The empty couple’s chair in the foreground adds another layer to this beautiful moment.

Swaralipi is presented with gifts from Nishant's family as part of the Juroon celebration, a significant ritual in Assamese weddings. We admire how the women from Nishant's family gaze attentively at the bride, while her mother smiles with satisfaction in the background.

Rare moments are sometimes relished long after the actual event, much like the captured essence in this frame from Swaralipi's Juroon celebration.

The hug between Swaralipi's mother and Nishant's mother symbolized a new bond forming between the two families. Juroon, a pivotal ceremony in Assamese weddings, signifies the exchange of gifts between the bride's and groom's families. This ritual fosters the spirit of unity and goodwill, symbolizing the acceptance and integration of the bride into her new family. As cherished items are exchanged, the ceremony becomes a heartfelt expression of joy and a promise of shared happiness in the journey ahead. The Juroon celebration is not only a tradition but also a beautiful moment that strengthens the bonds between two families coming together in celebration of love and union.

Swaralipi's portrait captures a beautiful mood. The simplicity of diffused lighting, accompanied by a subtle hint of shadow, adds a significant touch to the photo. Every element contributes to the beauty of this portrait, celebrating the simplicity of a fleeting moment in time.

Capturing intercultural marriages is a delight as it showcases the best of both worlds. In this shot, Nishant, an Assamese groom, actively participates in a Bengali ritual. The wide-angle frame not only emphasizes the significance of the moment but also beautifully encapsulates the grandeur of the occasion.

In Assamese culture, particularly during the Juroon celebration in weddings, the fish holds cultural and symbolic significance. The fish, known as "Maahor Gohona" in Assamese, is considered a symbol of prosperity and fertility. During the Juroon ceremony, the groom's family presents the bride with a pair of fish, often made of silver or gold, as a symbolic gesture wishing the couple abundance and prosperity in their married life. The fish symbolizes fertility and the hope for the couple to have a thriving and fruitful family life.

We love stories within a story. This wide-angle frame during Swaralipi’s Juroon celebration has many frames within a frame.
