सुवाल पथाई की रस्म (Pre Wedding Rituals)
कुमाऊनी शादी में सुवाल पथाई की रस्म होती है। यह रस्म सुबह शादी के दिन या शादी से एक दिन पहले निभाई जाती है। सुवाल एक तरह की डिश है, जिसे भगवान को प्रसाद के रूप में चढ़ाया जाता है। सुवाल बनाने के लिए गेंहू के आटे का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। सुवाल के अलावा लाड़ो भी बनाए जाते हैं। यह चावल के आटे से बनते हैं।

सुवाल बनाने के लिए आटे को गूंथा जाता है। फिर इससे छोटी-छोटी रोटी बनाई जाती है। इन रोटियों को धूप में सुखाया जाता है। धूप में सुखाने के बाद तेल में फ्राई किया जाता है। वहीं, लाड़ों बनाने के लिए चावल के आटे को भूनते हैं। फिर आटे में तिल और गुड़ पानी डालकर अच्छे से मिक्स किया जाता है। अब इस आटे से गोल-गोल लड्डू बनाए जाते हैं, जिसे कुमाऊं में लाड़ो कहा जाता है।

बचे हुए आटे से समधी-समधन बनाते हैं। इन्हें सजाया भी जाता है। समधी की मूंछे बनाई जाती हैं। उन्हें बीड़ी पीते हुए दिखाया जाता है। वहीं, समधन को रंगाई पिछौड़, चूड़ी जैसे गहनों से से सजाया जाता है। समधी और समधन की इस मूर्ति को एक टोकरी में रखा जाता है, जिसे शादी के दिन दूल्हा-दुल्हन के रिश्तेदार एक-दूसरे को यह सौंप देते हैं
