What does the future of work look like?

I came across this visual by Jacob Morgan, which he developed for his book "The Future of Work". Interestingly, it dates to 2014, and it basically shows how everything around work is changing. The changes have been quite slow – until 2020.

Now, as we are living through this pandemic in its various stages, there is real structural change that we are seeing. We may describe it as two megatrends.

One is the trend around hybrid work. Itis a result of the changed expectations of people around the flexibility that they want to exercise in when, where, and how they work.

The second mega trend is the great reshuffle. Not only are people talking about when, where, and how they work, but also why they work. They really want to recontract, in some sense, the real meaning of work and sort of asking themselves the question of which company do they want to work for and what job function or profession they want to pursue.

In addition, most of the current leaders, and for sure, the next generation of leaders, are focused on sustainability, diversity and technological solution developed with user friendly and human behavior attention. It goes along with environmental stewardship
and consciousness of the impact of new technologies.

These major trends are fundamentally structurally changing everything we do.
