Dum Tek’s album of the month : The Fat of The Land by The Prodigy

The third studio album by the English Electronic group, was released through XL Recording on 30th of June 1997.

Described by Simon Reynolds as an apolitical update of punk offering post-grunge kids an aerobic workout for their frustration and aggression, The Fat of The Land entered the Billboard charts at no.1 spot.

Certified as double platinum, it entered the Guniess World Records as the fastest selling UK album.

The Prodigy, described as ‘electronic punk’, are an English Electronic Dance band formed by Liam Howlett, fronted by dancer & vocalist Keith Flint(until his unfortunate demise in 2019) with MC & vocalist Maxim.

Till date, The Prodigy has sold as estimated 25 million records worldwide.

Anatomy of our Djembes :

The Head, Rim, Tuning Ropes and Body are important components of a Djembe and have an effect on the quality of the drum.

Head: The Djembe head is traditionally made of goat skin or animal hide. But modern day Djembes offer synthetic skins as well. The head is textured but not rough and is of even thickness right across the head.

Rim: A handmade drum will always have slight deviations but the rim is always smooth and circular.

Tuning Ropes: High quality strong roping gives more tension in the head and thus a better tone. Our Djembes are double roped and can therefore be tuned to a high pitch.

Tone: There is always a clear difference in tone between the centre of the skin (bass tone) and the rim(slap). Our drums have a wide pitch gap between the bass and open tones on the rim which is essential for our group drumming music.

Body: Our Djembes at Dum Tek are beautifully carved from mango wood. The foot of the drum is smooth so the djembe stands straight when left alone.
