Rajasthan puppets are made of wood. Kath (wood) + Putali (puppet, kathputali) have joined in making of animated objects for the performance. Puppeteers come from a community of Bhats (genealogist) of Nagaur and around districts of Rajasthan. It is said that the Bhats adopted Kathputali from Mugal Courts i.e. from Persian puppeteers who played with paper machie puppets. The Bhats are also known as Nat i.e. acrobats.Puppeteers say that they play the story of Amar singh Rathore, a medieval hero from Nagaur district who was serving in Mugal court of Shahjahan. But story of Amar singh is only the frame of puppet play. They use the court for playing on wonderfully animated puppets like dancers, snake charmer, sword-fighters, horse and camel riders etc. These puppets are the main attraction of their performance.

Puppets are carved and costumed by the puppeteers themselves. The marionette tradition has large possibility of developing in modern communication strategies.People of Rajasthan perform Rajasthan dances to express their emotions. These folk dances of Rajasthan display the rich culture and heritage of the land. Kachi Ghodi (dummy horse dance) is one of the most famous dance forms in Rajasthan and an exemplary folk art form. It brings out the vivid hues and the rustic charms of rural life in Rajasthan. Kachi Godi derives its name from the work Ghoodi meaning ‘mare’.

Kachi Ghodi of Rajasthan is performed by men on dummy horses. The dancers ride the dummy horses and move to the beats of drums, big airophonic instrument call Bankiya and thali (round metal plate). Kachi Godi of Rajasthan is a famous folk dance full of zest and colors. The costume from hip down is a wooden horse and the footwork is coordinated with the beats of the drums and flutes to resemble the trotting movements of the horse rider. One is always left awestruck at the skill of the performers and the labor that has been put into fashioning out such attire.

The performers wield mock swords and play the part of the brave yet benevolent bandits of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan known as the Bavaria. The dacoits of this region were the local Robin Hoods; they stole from the rich, oppressive landlords and distributed among the poor and the needy. Though denounced as criminals, these bandits were highly regarded by the common folk.

Their valor and humorous episodes of their exploits are the themes of Kachi Godi songs. Often Kachi Godi dances are performed as part of the marriage rituals and to entertain the bridegroom’s party, called baraat.

Originally they belong, to the Nagaur area in the Marwar region, they travel all over the country to show their talent. Also known by the name of the “kathputliwalas”, they usually perform the puppet shows during the late evenings. There are a number of wooden dummy dolls in the puppet shows that are dressed up in bright and color clothes. These puppets are attached with strings that the puppeteer uses to move them around.

A small stage is set up with the help of a small bed that is laid by length. The puppeteer turns his puppets over a line attached to the upper legs of the beds. The beds are enclosed with sheets in order to hide the puppeteer from the view of the public. He moves the jointed arms of the puppets with the help of strings connected to each of them. A small stage is set for the show where puppeteers show puppetry & tell the story. In the presentation, music or narrative song plays a vital role as the whole performance is based upon the narrative song.

The puppets are fixed on stage. It describes historic stories, replay tales of love, and contain much shouting and high-pitched sound as the puppet turn around circularly and move excitedly at the time of performance. Sometimes, the puppeteer makes use of different sound effects to attain the actuality impact & give a worth amusement. The puppeteer shows all his skills to make puppets dance on his tunes. Introduction
Wedding is referred to as ‘Vivah’ in Sanskrit. Weddings are a very essential part of our Indian Culture. It not only brings two people together, it is a celebration in itself; and by far one of the biggest celebrations of one’s life. People take months and sometimes years to plan a wedding. The precision and perfection are the two biggest aims. But many are opting for low-key affairs or even plain simple registered marriages. But nothing can take away the charm of a Vedic wedding. It is a special moment in a person’s life, which is made more special by the Vedic rituals and ambience.
Importance and Significance of Vivah Puja (Wedding Puja)
Marriages have become a multi-day celebration. There are various pre-wedding functions. Pujas done in every function have some significance. Vivah is a very sacred union. Many Gods and Goddesses are invited through various rituals to come and bless the couple. Marriages are set in the cosmos but the union sanskaar is done through a Vivah Puja. The Fire is the sakshi or the witness to this Holy Union. The promises made during a Vivah Puja are lifelong commitments that the bride and the groom make to each other. A Vivah Puja is made of various rituals and each ritual is significant.

History & Stories
Indian weddings, particularly, Arranged marriages have their roots in our Vedas. The way the weddings and various rituals are conducted now took shape during the Vedic period. The Hindu marriage rituals are derived from Dharmashastras i.e. the sacred texts. These Dharmashastras are a representation of the laws of the various Vedas. These scriptures have been scripted by male A***n sages. Manu was known to be as the most influential interpreters of these scriptures and in 200 BC he wrote the Manu Samhita, which actually laid down the rules of marriage.

Occasions to do a Vivah Puja (Wedding Puja)
Although it sounds imperative that a Vivaah Puja happens during a couple’s Vivaah, there are a few other instances where the couple does the Vivah Puja. Many couples do a vivaah puja while buying a house together.
Additionally, a lot of couples like to renew their wedding vows on their wedding anniversary.
Moreover, quite a few couples who did a court/registered marriage, do a Vedic Vivah Puja and remarry each other on some special occasion in their life.
Vivah Puja (Wedding Puja) Vidhi or Procedure
The Vidhi actually changes from one community to another, but quite a few rituals are common.
When the groom’s procession arrives at the entrance of the venue, the bride’s side welcomes the groom and his near and dear ones by performing the Var Satkaar Ceremony.
After the bride joins the groom in the Mandap, the father gives away his daughter to the groom in a ceremony known as Kanyadaan.
The Vivah Hom begins by lighting the sacred fire. The Panighran ceremony follows the Hom Lighting; Panigrahan refers to the groom accepting the bride as his lawfully wedded wife.
The couple then circumvents the Agni Kund and takes the Mangal Pheras. Each Phera is a vow of commitment to each other.
After the Pheras, the Saptapadi ceremony begins. It is the ritual of taking seven steps on grains of rice.
Each step has its own significance. This is followed by the Sindoor and Mangalsutra ceremony.
The couple then seeks the Aashirwaad of all the elders followed by the Bidai (send-off / farewell) of the bride and her Griha Pravesh in her new home and family.
Vivah Puja (Wedding Puja) Muhurat
The mahurat of the wedding primarily depends on the positions and movements of the planets in the horoscope charts of the bride and the groom. Through that the Pandit provides various muhurats i.e. auspicious day, date and time on which the Vivah Puja shall yield the best results.
