KIIT Film Society in collaboration with Celluloid, The Film Society of Miranda House, is organizing Behind The Screens: A Cinematography Workshop, on 12th and 13th March, 2022.

The schedule for the two days is follows:

📅 Day 1: 12th March, 2022
🎥 Basics of Cinematography – A student led event
⏰ 3:30PM-4:30PM
This event will be conducted by Cinematographer and Director Sirshendu Chaudhari (KFS) and Cinematographer Ananya Gupta (Celluloid).

🎥 Talk with Arjun Kukreti
⏰ 6:30PM-7:30PM
Mr Arjun Kukreti is a cinematographer and director who has worked on multiple projects in the field of cinematography, editing, direction and production. He has worked for companies like ScoopWhoop, Urban Clap and his recent projects include TVF Aspirants, The Aam Admi Family, Engineering Girls, College Romance among others.

🎥 Workshop on Cinematography by Manish Nihalani
⏰ 5:00PM-6:00PM
Mr Manish Nihalnini has worked on KBC, MTV Coke Studio and MTV Unplugged as the Assistant DOP and cameraman. He has also made 16 documentaries for UNICEF, World Bank, ADB, UN and Indian State Governments. His recent projects include Jalsa and Social Currency and has been honored with multiple awards like the Golden Lion Award.

This Italian film which had spellbound one of India's greatest filmmakers, Satyajit Ray blends neo realistic tones of the working class and the horrors of the post WW-II era. The plot focusses on the plight of Antonio as he searches for a job to support his family and the disaster that follows when his bicycle gets stolen. This film will pull at your heartstrings in ways you would never imagine to be pulled by a stolen bicycle.

"When I was asked to name my favorite European Movie, I became really conflicted between four of my favorite movies of all time. Despite it being a close call, I ultimately decided on Michael Haneke's Amour. Haneke is undeniably one of my favorite directors. Thoroughly swept off my feet by his movie "The White Ribbon", I decided to go into this one completely blind, and boy was my mind blown. This movie in the French language, deals with the harsh realities and struggles associated with old age. On the surface, the premise might sound straightforward, but truly it is anything but. The movie is a haunting acknowledgment of death that stays with and disturbs you, long after the credits roll. Masterfully written and directed by Haneke, complete with expertly layered characters and exceptional performances (especially that of Emmanuelle Riva), this is a movie that exists to hurt. It refuses to sugarcoat the horrific realities of life and is ruthlessly honest in its ex*****on. Truly a masterclass in filmmaking, Amour is a must-watch."

A path-breaking film in terms of the narrative innovation and cinematic technique, it was a commercial success and went to run for six weeks amidst gushing admiration and accolades, when it was screened first.

VIKRAM VEDHA is a serious film, and the force is noticeable from the absolute first scene. The course is really great, and the story is very overpowering. The movie remains consistent with its class: it has an ideal mix of activity and excites, and fulfills even the normal watcher who may search for masala. There is an ideal mix of mass and class components which should be valued. You can't choose whether it's a film just for classes or masses: since it's for both!

We are excited to introduce our chief guests for the orientation programme, Mr. Nalneesh Neel and Börje Lundberg. Nalneesh Neel is an actor who has acted in various Bollywood and Hollywood films. He was most recently seen playing a pivotal character in the Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo, which was delivered on OTT. His collection additionally incorporates films like Chhichhore, Ill Smoking Barrels Fukrey Returns, Raes, and Shuddh Desi Romance, among numerous others. He will be accompanied by Mr. Börje Lundberg who is an international actor and Academy Award Nominee. He is notably known for his remarkable performance in the movie "A Man Called Ove". The Scandanavian Actor's journey began as he performed in theatre dramas in cruise ships where he was a waiter. Consequently he finally decided to follow his passion in the art of acting. Börje achieved his big break at the age of 64 and inspired millions. Their presence in our ceremony would add charisma to the auspicious day.

THE VOLUME
20 ft. tall, 270o around and 75 ft. across – stands the most enormous and hi-tech film making instrument ever conceived. Stagecraft by ILM, defies traditions and leaves behind static green screens in favour of smart LED screens. Smart how? The entire set-up exists in a symbiotic relationship, gauging and involving various parameters introducing alterations where ever necessary producing a virtually reactive 3D environment. Set designers and engineers can work together bringing together art and science under one whole ecosystem which actively reacts to camera positioning, the subject in frame and the background producing avant-garde shots.
High-definition 3D reconstruction of a backdrop eliminates the need for travelling to an actual location with a full-scale production house. Same goes for the inevitable, reshoots! LED screens becomes a light source in itself bringing in life-like reflections and shadows, removing the need for extensive post production. The screens can display any number of backgrounds as per the creator’s choices and whims translating into practically cost-free changes. Initial cost of investment remains high for an infant technology, but finding use cases for such an amazing engineering marvel would hardly remain a task in the coming years.
The Mandalorian – Jon Favreau’s creation takes the huge jump with two entire seasons being works of master technology and of course, Stagecraft.
